DMZ, trapped between north & south 🇰🇷🇰🇵
The demilitarized zone is a must see if you’re doing a few days in Seoul, it’s a fascinating glimpse at the line that separates two nations still at war. The war ended in in 1953 with an armistice, so the nations are still technically at war.
The guided tours are amazing given the fact you are approaching such a sensitive area, they give you access to some fascinating sites while still keeping you safe and informed. On the tours you can visit various monuments and memorials to the fallen, the separated and the disappeared - each with their own fascinating stories. You can see the various bridges in their different states of repair that once linked the two nations.
You visit the observatory which enables you to look at North Korea through binoculars and see the difference in their buildings, farming and transport. On a clear day you can see as far as North Korea’s third biggest city. You can also see people on the other side of their border going about their day, walking around or farming and you can see how basic their equipment and provisions are.
Finally you enter the tunnels that North Korea built after the armistice to try and prepare for an invasion of Seoul, the tunnels were found and stopped by the South but still a fascinating piece of the story. You go deep underground and see the dynamite holes left from construction and the coal dust the North Koreans used to try and disguise their true intent.
Overall a fascinating experience and it’s worth the price, and being a 40 minute drive out of Seoul this 3/4 hour trip is doable in a half day if well planned!

A Glimpse into History at the Korean DMZ
#koreatrip
The DMZ, located on the border between North and South Korea, is one of the most unique and politically significant places to visit in the world. This heavily fortified border has become a symbol of the division between the two Koreas since the Korean War. Visitors can tour the Joint Security Area (JSA) at Panmunjom, where North and South Korean soldiers stand face-to-face. The tension is palpable, but the experience is profoundly educational. Key attractions include the Third Infiltration Tunnel, Dorasan Observatory, and the DMZ Museum. A visit to the DMZ is a sobering reminder of Korea’s past but also a hopeful testament to the possibilities of peace and reconciliation.

🇰🇷 The DMZ: A Journey to the Edge of History
#localtourguides #100waysoftravel
The DMZ, or Demilitarized Zone, is a fascinating yet tense strip of land that serves as the border between South and North Korea. Stretching approximately 250 kilometers, this unique area is heavily fortified and rich in history, representing the division of a nation and the complexities of war and peace.
To fully experience this remarkable region, I joined a guided tour with a local guide, which was essential for safety and security reasons. This journey was both eye-opening and unforgettable, offering a rare glimpse into a pivotal part of history.
📍Imjingak Park: The tour began at this serene park, a symbolic site of peace featuring monuments and a beautiful landscape overlooking the DMZ.
📍Freedom Bridge: This historic bridge represents hope and reunification, where prisoners of war returned after the conflict.
📍The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel: One of the four known tunnels dug by North Korea, revealing the tensions of the past.
📍Dora Observatory: A panoramic view of North Korea and learn about the DMZ's strategic significance from expert guides.
📍Dorasan Station: The last stop in South Korea before the North, a poignant reminder of potential reunification.

DMZ north / South Korea
A MUST DO experience. I had a really interesting time here. Plenty to see and do. Very physically challenging if you do the 3rd tunnel and the red bridge but if you go to South Korea you must do this.

⚡️Stepping into the forbidden zone: exploring DMZ! 🇰🇷🇰🇵
📍DMZ is the Demilitarized Zone which separates South and North Korea !
It's an absolute must-see for anyone who visits South Korea🌟✨
🔺First, stand at the border, feeling the weight of history in the air. It's a surreal feeling to be in a place where two divided nations are yet connected. The tension and significance of this place are simply awe-inspiring. 🌍
🚇 Explored an underground tunnel that stretches beneath the border, revealing the extent of the DMZ's infrastructure. Walk through the narrow passageways, to a truly mind-boggling! 🚇🔦
🔭 And oh, the telescope! ⭐️Peer through it and get glimpses of North Korea flag standing tall, and its people going about their daily lives. It's a captivating sight, witnessing a different world just a stone's throw away. 🎥
💢 To visit the DMZ, you can join a guided day tour from Seoul, which is the most convenient starting point. Tour companies offer comprehensive packages that include transportation, entry fees, and a knowledgeable guide who will provide valuable insights throughout the trip. 💢
💰The average price for a day tour to the DMZ ranges from $50 to $100 (usd), depending on the specific itinerary and inclusions 🤑

DMZ - A meaningful trip
We took a half day trip to DMZ which depart from city hall area by 7.40am and reach Seoul by 2.30pm. The timing is just right and not rush at all.
The bus we have is comfortable and we have requested for a Chinese tour guide. Hence, we have both English and Chinese tour guides in our trip, and both of them are very professional and helpful.
We have gained deep historical insight into Korea’s turbulent past. We can see panoramic views of North Korea using binoculars from the top of Dora Observatory. After finished our views, we took a short break at the cafe inside the building, which is relaxing.
We then walk inside the 3rd infiltration tunnel, an invasion route lying beneath the border of North and South Korea. Please note that tunnel is quite steep in some parts and it took quite a lot of energy to walk up in return. So please allow longer time for aged parents or young kids.
Before we end a trip, there is little shopping time allocated to buy the local products, mainly ginseng and chocolates produced by the villagers. This is great for us who intend to buy some souvenirs as well.

DMZ Tour
Eye opener experience. Nice tour to visit and understand more about Korea.
With our DMZ Tours , you will be able to visit the Dora – Observatory ,where you can view most beautiful nature of Korea and you will actually experience of walking into 3rd Infiltration Tunnel(1.0mile long) to see how North Korea tried to sneaky into South Korea after the peace settlement.
I’ll travel
N Korea from afar
Booked a half day tour to the DMZ and the day started off at 4am (Korea time). All tour groups needed to rush in at that time as they allowed only 30 tour buses a day to enter the DMZ and the earlier you are, the high the chances of being guaranteed tickets into the secured area.
Never before have I seen guides that were so passionate about their job and doing all that they could to help us understand the area from a neutral perspective.
Really felt the tension when we were that area and the experience in the 3rd infiltration tunnel was pretty cool.
My friend and I really enjoyed the whole experience!

DMZ 🇰🇵🇰🇷 Korea

Ok, so heading to a demilitarized zone on vacation won't be everyone's cup of tea.
but
For those that are interested in modern history, this is a fascinating tour to take.
The irony if being called a demilitarized zone is the first take away, this is most certainly one of the most militarized places on earth. A 4km wide stretch if outposts, military equipment barbed wire, mines, fences, radar and national flags.
On visiting the DMZ you'll learn about the conflict for the South Korean perspective, visit a north Korean tunnel and be able to take photos of the border. on the second photo you can see both the South and North Korean flags 🇰🇵🇰🇷
Note: This is a trip for learning a bit more about modern conflicts and history, but not really one for the photos. lots of the tour will be no photos, including the tunnel.
I would highly recommend taking the morning tour
