Sunset Serenity: Discovering the Majestic Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou – A Filming Location for Black
#chinatrip #china #quanzhou #Blackmyth #Kaiyuantemple #Xijie #unesco #ancienttown#100waysoftravel
During my visit to Quanzhou's Kaiyuan Temple, I was captivated by its historical grandeur and serene beauty. Established in the Tang Dynasty in 686 AD, Kaiyuan Temple is renowned for its ancient architecture and historical significance.
As the sun began to set, I enjoyed a breathtaking view of the temple from Xijie Street. The soft, golden light illuminated the temple's intricate carvings and majestic structures, creating a tranquil and picturesque scene.
This experience allowed me to appreciate both the historical depth of Kaiyuan Temple and the stunning beauty of the sunset, making for a memorable visit.

Quanzhou, Fujian: Half City of Fireworks, Half City of Immortals
Visiting Quanzhou for the first time feels like coming home. The city is filled with various temples, thriving incense offerings, and devout believers coming and going daily, giving a strong sense of familiarity ❤️
In the so-called 'Nation of Gods and Buddhas,' Quanzhou, you must visit the famous Kaiyuan Temple. Many might notice that there are several Kaiyuan Temples across mainland China. This is true, as many temples with the same name were built nationwide during the Tang Xuanzong era due to his reign title.
Besides the towering five-story pagoda, the courtyard also features a nearly thousand-year-old banyan tree that has grown into a towering giant 🌳. Stepping into the temple, you can immediately feel the weight of history and a sense of peace and tranquility.
Following the signs to explore the temple inside and out takes about an hour. If interested, you can also offer incense to the gods and Buddhas. Highly recommended 👍

Follow Li Xian for a tour of Quanzhou with this guide and that's all you need
This year I visited Quanzhou twice and fell in love with this small city full of life. Recently, Li Xian's 'Spring Sentiments to a Lover' was filmed in Quanzhou, and the Carp City is just too beautiful under the camera lens🎐
If you travel to Quanzhou, you can count on my nanny-level guide:
🚶 3-day 2-night itinerary
Day Quanzhou Ancient City citywalk
📍 Quanzhou Ancient City→Maritime History Museum→Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum→Quanzhou Museum
To citywalk in Quanzhou is the right way to start, besides West Street, the city's Flower Lane, Jingting Lane, and Tongzheng Lane are also great to stroll around. Visit Qingjing Mosque, Chengtian Temple, Guanyue Temple, and Tianhou Palace to pray and feel what it's like to be 'half in the mundane world and half in the celestial realm'.
Besides temples and alleys, the three must-visit museums in Quanzhou are highly recommended, especially the Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum❗️
Day Wander around Jinjiang's ancient buildings
📍 Wulin Traditional Village→Wudian Market District
Another characteristic of Quanzhou is the Minnan ancient houses. Dedicate a day to Jinjiang to visit Wulin Ancient Village and Wudian Market to see the Southeast Asian ancient architecture🏛️
Wulin Ancient Village has preserved more than 100 Western-style houses and Fanzai buildings, with red walls and tiles, great for photography. Wudian Market is in the city center, with architecture spanning the Ming, Qing, and Republic of China periods, very enjoyable to visit.
Day Watch the sea in Shishi
📍 Shishi Gold Coast→Luojia Temple→Guanyin Mountain Scenic Area→Hongta Bay
Quanzhou's seascape is no less than other coastal cities. On the third day, it is recommended to visit Luojia Temple in Shishi, the same place Li Xian visited, the sea temple is very impressive🌊
My sea-viewing route can be walked, about 3km, and it's the essence of Shishi's seascape. In the evening, wait for a sunset by the sea🌅, the scenery is absolutely beautiful.
🏨 Tips for my accommodation & food recommendations:
It's recommended to stay near Quanzhou Ancient City, there are many homestays and hotels, which are convenient for visiting various attractions and dining.
🍱Must-eat foods in Quanzhou: Mianxian Hu, Siguotang, Oyster Omelette, Ginger Duck... I can't stop eating. These places are reliable in taste: Yuanbao Taiwan Snacks, Shuimen Guozi Old Shop, Pu Fresh Courtyard.
I will visit Quanzhou again this year, this office of the gods on earth, I can never get enough of it❤️

Quanzhou is so romantic,

EMELY MALDONADO
I regret not coming to Quanzhou earlier
Quanzhou, half a city of fireworks and half a city of immortals, is a place you must visit at least once in your life~ There is a temple every 500 meters here, which is the office of the gods on earth, the most beautiful coastline selected by National Geographic, and a food paradise for individuals!
🌈Classic one-day tour route
West Street (the most intact ancient street in Quanzhou city)-Kaiyuan Temple (the largest Buddhist temple in Fujian Province, once called Lotus Temple, which arouses the DNA of my lotus head)-Xiaoxi Cheng (net red wall)-Bell Tower-Zhongshan Street-Fu Wen Temple-Guan Yue Temple-Tianhou Palace
🌈Photo route
Because this trip stayed in Hui'an County Julong Town Longgu Mountain House, which is a 40-minute drive away, so I only went to the most out-of-the-picture West Street➕Kaiyuan Temple, enjoy the city scenery and rest in the rooftop coffee shop~ In the afternoon, I went to Xifu Begonia in Xunpu Village to take ancient costumes~ (This will be introduced in detail in the next article)
🌈Food recommendation
We had breakfast at the hotel➕went to the rooftop coffee on West Street, and ate Song Xiaojin·Quanzhou Restaurant in Xunpu Village after taking pictures in the evening (the best meal of this trip, praise me for finding delicious food)
Around 7:30 I went back to Longgu Mountain House to rest, and arrived at more than 8:00, it was still early to take a walk or let the housekeeper arrange a car to go to the hot spring♨️ are good choices~
I really like this slow-paced town, which reminds me of my hometown~ I want to bring my loved ones again next time🥰

Just returned from Quanzhou for three days and two nights, let me share my real feelings
I was so lucky this time to Quanzhou~ The weather was great!
On the first day, I encountered a beautiful sunset. The second day was a day trip to the seaside. Although it was cloudy in the morning, the afternoon was very clear. The third day was also a sunny day. It's really comfortable to come to Quanzhou in winter~ The temperature is just right, not cold or hot.
.
✔️Three-day tour itinerary:
Day1: Chengdu✈️Quanzhou: Citywalk near West Street in the afternoon
Day2: Seaside day trip: Luoga Temple—Xiangzhi Wharf—Yushawan Park
Day3: In the morning, flower hairpin in West Street, visit Kaiyuan Temple, go to Wulin traditional village in the afternoon, Quanzhou✈️Chengdu at night
.
Hotel🏨
It is recommended to choose near West Street, you can go to many places on foot, there are also many foods, super convenient.
.
✔️West Street: Quanzhou's most intact ancient street, compared to other commercial streets, the prices here are really cheap, and the taste is also good~
There are many internet celebrity check-in points on the street, the location of the second floor to take pictures of the twin towers of Kaiyuan Temple, inside Xiangfeng Lane, and the "Quanzhou" big character newspaper and "Quanzhou" calendar wall, all are good for taking pictures!
.
✔️Luoga Temple: A very popular sea temple, you can take the same position as Li Xian here, very photogenic.
.
✔️Xiangzhi Wharf: When the weather is clear, the sea here is super blue, sitting by the sea is very chill~
.
✔️Yushawan Park: It's like "Anaya", very photogenic for taking pictures~
.
✔️West Street Hairpin Flower: Now you don't have to go to Xunpu, there are many places in West Street where you can wear flowers. The prices are slightly different, depending on the clothes you choose. But the prices are very transparent, basically you won't step on thunder. It's best to choose a shop with an aunt inside, the braid will look better.
.
✔️Kaiyuan Temple: After finishing the hairpin flower, you must come to the red wall of Kaiyuan Temple to take pictures, it's very beautiful!
.
✔️Wulin Traditional Village: It's quite far from West Street, about 40 minutes by taxi, closer to the airport. There are many old buildings preserved here, the most photogenic is the Roman-style building just inside.
.
🥗Food: Noodle paste, ginger duck, mazhi... all are not bad!
.
Overall, Quanzhou is very suitable for playing for two or three days, the consumption is not high, and most of the attractions do not require tickets. This time we came, including round-trip air tickets, the average person spent more than a thousand and had a lot of fun~
.
Thank you for reading, see you next time👋🏻

In the city, you can usually scan the code to take the bus for 1-2 yuan, or choose shared electric bicycles or walking.

A guide to the culturally rich ancient city of Quanzhou, where historic sites and attractions are concentrated
The ancient city of Quanzhou is not large, and it is home to historic sites such as Kaiyuan Temple, Confucius Temple, Guanyue Temple, and Qingjing Mosque. It is recommended to go to Guanyue Temple first, walk northwest along Tumen Street, and you can visit Qingjing Mosque and Confucius Temple not far away. Pass through the Confucius Temple, walk north along Zhongshan Road, to the crossroad of West Street, walk west from the intersection, and you can reach Kaiyuan Temple not far away. Qingyuan Mountain is also worth climbing, but it's a bit far, you can take a taxi to Laojun Rock.
The above-mentioned ancient sites in the ancient city can be finished in half a day; Qingyuan Mountain is very large, with a full-length hiking trail, clear signs on the mountain, you can arrange it yourself according to time and physical strength.
Impression: More than 700 years ago, Quanzhou was a world trade center, concentrating various major religious cultures at that time.
1. Guanyue Temple is very popular;
2. Qingjing Mosque is a very old mosque;
3. Some Nestorian sites can be seen, Nestorianism is a branch of Christianity;
4. Zhongshan Road is a commercial street, not wide, with arcades on both sides, convenient for pedestrians;
5. The stone carvings of the Heavenly Kings on the tower of Kaiyuan Temple are very exquisite;
6. The huge statue of Laozi at the entrance of Qingyuan Mountain, carved from natural stone mountain, the deep eyes see through time and space;
7. The view from the top of Qingyuan Mountain is good, there are many cliff carvings, and there is a pagoda of the high monk Hongyi on the mountain.

Wulin Traditional Village in Jinjiang is a must-visit spot
🌈✨Are you tired of the hustle and bustle of the city and longing for a quaint traditional village where everything slows down? Then, Wulin Traditional Village in Jinjiang is the right place for you! The well-preserved ancient buildings and rich historical and cultural atmosphere here will definitely make you take out your phone and snap away.
🏛️📍The main buildings to visit are: Chaodong Building, Gun Building, Deyang House, Dehong Five Zhang, and Wucheng Cu. These buildings are scattered in a picturesque disorder, and the combination of Chinese and Western architecture seems to have traveled through the tunnel of time, allowing people to feel the wisdom and wealth of ancient Minnan people.
Wulin Traditional Village was rated as the fourth batch of traditional villages in China in 2016. There are 136 various ancient buildings existing, including the Ming Dynasty Baifu Wall, Qing Dynasty official red brick mansion, modern Gothic and Roman style buildings, Fanzi Building, etc., showing the architectural history of the combination of Chinese and Western, the cultural history of Minnan overseas Chinese, the entrepreneurial history of Fujian people going to Nanyang, and the history of exchanges between China and Southeast Asian countries.
The windows of Chaodong Building are now covered by posters from previous activities, which is really ugly. I don't know when the scenic area will take it down.
👗📸If you like photography, this is definitely a great shooting spot. You can wear Xunpu women's clothes and leave a beautiful figure in front of the ancient buildings; you can also use the lens to record the blue sky and white clouds, green trees and red walls here, and freeze the beautiful moments.
Personally, if you want to take pictures of Xunpu women, Wulin is really more suitable than Xunpu Village. The scenery of Xunpu Village is relatively ordinary, and there are many people taking pictures. Unlike Wulin, there are few people and beautiful scenery, which is very suitable for photography.
🔥🚆For your convenience, the transportation here is very convenient. You can take a high-speed train to Quanzhou Jinjiang Station, and then take a bus or taxi to get there. If you drive by yourself, there is a free parking lot in front of the scenic area for you to park. It is recommended to drive by yourself or sign up for a one-day group online, which is very convenient.
☕️🍵: Under the Banyan Tree Cafe, inside Dehong Five Zhang, the two banyan trees next to the shop must be checked in. The twisted roots of the tree are like snakes coiled on the roof, and in the end, the roof simply could not bear the pressure and collapsed, forming the only banyan tree planted inside the house.
The coffee in this shop is also good, and the coffee shop is also very suitable for taking pictures.
💖💖Finally, when you come to Quanzhou, be sure to leave a day to stroll around Jinjiang and feel the breeze of Wulin. Wulin is very suitable for a slow stroll, take your time to understand the history of each building! Don't forget to follow me, there are more travel guides and experiences waiting for you to discover! Remember to like👍, collect🌟 and share with your buddies!👭👬👫
At the very end, do you all know what the fish, tigers, and various shapes of flowers on the buildings are for?
MEGAN POWERS
Finally, it's my turn to take pictures of hairpin flowers in Quanzhou!
Quanzhou Haopu Village
You must visit Fupu Village when you come to Quanzhou
Fupu Village is not very big, the main check-in points are
①Mazu Temple (Shunji Palace also known as Mazu Temple)
②Oyster Shell House
③Century-old house
④Century-old banyan tree
⑤Seaside scenery
Attraction introduction: Luopu Village has a history of thousands of years, located in the southeast of Quanzhou city, a historical and cultural city, on the bank of the ancient Citong Port, on the north bank of the Jinjiang Estuary of Quanzhou Bay, backed by Zhugu Mountain, surrounded by the sea on three sides. According to the Qianlong version of "Quanzhou Prefecture Chronicles" (1764), the 36 cities under the jurisdiction of the coastal shops "lead the back mountain, gardens, Qianpu, Jinzaki, Houp...". The "Qianpu" here should be the near sound of "Fupu", because this place is rich in red snails and other seafood, so the villagers are accustomed to call it "Fupu".
The hairpin flower of Fupu woman symbolizes bravery, dedication, and love!
This time I experienced a "wear flowers in this life, be beautiful in the next life" style, which is actually a local traditional style~
There are many Fupu women's hairpin flower styling shops here, I asked a few, the price is very uniform, hairstyle + flower insertion + clothing + props = 40 yuan, the difference lies in the style and deposit of the shop, some deposits are 100 yuan, some are 200 yuan.

Fujian's largest Buddhist temple, home to China's tallest twin stone towers, is located in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, at Kaiyuan Temple
✅【Life】
"In this small town where I live, everyone firmly believes that there are gods three feet above their heads, and they also believe in spirits. People live closely with ghosts and gods..." This is how writer Cai Chongda describes the attitude of Quanzhou people towards gods in his book 'Skin'.
🚩【Folklore】
In the daily life of Quanzhou people, the folklore of "respecting heaven and earth and fearing ghosts and gods" is vividly preserved. Here, there is a temple every five steps and a temple every ten steps. It is a "city of all gods" that integrates various beliefs such as Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Manichaeism, and Hinduism.
📍【Check-in】
Kaiyuan Temple, located on West Street in Licheng District, Quanzhou, can be said to be one of the most representative places of Quanzhou's earthly and immortal atmosphere. Many people even list visiting Kaiyuan Temple as a must-do when traveling to Quanzhou.
📖【History】
It was first built in the second year of the Tang Dynasty, and has a history of more than 1300 years. It is the largest Buddhist temple in Fujian and a national key cultural relics protection unit. As a major part of "Quanzhou: The World Maritime Trade Center of Song and Yuan China", it has been included in the "World Cultural Heritage List".
➡️【What you see】
The Kaiyuan Temple we see now, its main temples were mostly built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was originally called "Lotus Temple" because of the allusion of "Mulberry Opening White Lotus". Later, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty ordered the construction of temples throughout the country to show the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty, and they were all named after the year, hence the name "Kaiyuan Temple".
📍【Scale】
The temple covers nearly 120 acres and consists of a series of buildings such as the main building group in the middle road and the east and west stone towers. Not only is it high in regulation, majestic, and cleverly constructed, but it is also more splendid and brightly lit when you look closely.
Especially the Zhenguo Tower and Renshou Tower, which are arranged in a "品" shape with the Daxiong Hall, not only stand tall for thousands of years, but are also the highest pair of stone towers in our country. Their meticulous and precise stacking methods and the exquisite relief carvings on the tower body are all shocking and are undoubtedly national treasures.
🚩【Achievements】
In addition, there are wooden couplets personally written by Zhu Xi, the Ganlu Jietan, which is known as one of the three major Jietan in China along with Beijing Jietai Temple and Hangzhou Zhaoqing Temple, and the Sutra Pavilion with a rich collection of historical materials, etc., are all must-see check-in points at Kaiyuan Temple.
Of course, in addition to the magnificent and exquisite architecture and the long and diverse culture of Kaiyuan Temple, its classical, elegant, quiet and deep environmental atmosphere is also a reason why many people prefer it.

Quanzhou B&B | Found a treasure B&B in the old city area
🌿 Dreamy courtyard - the charming courtyard of Jiyuan🚅
I have been looking for the ideal B&B on the trip to Quanzhou, and the courtyard style of Jiyuan deeply attracted my attention.
🏠 Warm night - the small universe waiting warmly by the boss
When I arrived in Quanzhou, it was already late at night. The boss patiently waited for our arrival and shared many authentic good shops!
🌳 Green shade - leisure time in the courtyard of Jiyuan
The courtyard is warmly decorated, with red walls and white tiles, and the shadows of trees. Here, even daze becomes a kind of enjoyment. There are tea rooms upstairs and downstairs, and the boss often invites us to taste tea together, which has a unique taste!
📍 Food block - delicious exploration around Jiyuan
The location of the B&B is excellent, located near the Overseas Chinese New Village, and it is very close to West Street and other attractions. There are many delicious foods in the small alleys near the B&B, especially the noodle paste recommended by the boss! You can take a small white car as soon as you go out, and the small white should be promoted nationwide, it's too convenient.
Revisit Quanzhou - the echo of food memories
🍲Food sharing:
Noodle paste
Strongly recommend vinegar meat, large intestine, and fried dough sticks!
Four fruit soup, stone flower cream
Beef soup, steak
Taro cake
Roast pork dumplings

Guide•Quanzhou|Want to see the sea, so I came to this World Heritage small town
✨Because I like this coastal small town in the World Cultural Heritage List too much, I came to Quanzhou again. When I left, I knew clearly that I would definitely come again.
✨Bai Yansong was right: "As long as you love life, you will definitely fall in love with Quanzhou."
Places worth visiting in Quanzhou
1⃣️Kaiyuan Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in Fujian Province, no tickets or appointments are required. If you want to go, remember to go early, the price is very beautiful.
2⃣️West Street is next to Kaiyuan Temple, the Minnan red brick house is too beautiful, and the integration with Kaiyuan Temple really confirms the phrase "half city fireworks half city fairy".
Photo check-in location: You can go to the rooftop of Meichao Crazy and the rooftop of West Street Tourist Service Center.
Snack recommendation: Wu-style handmade glutinous rice cake, Auntie Chicken Rack, and Hou's Meat Zongzi are all very good.
3⃣️Quanzhou Overseas Traffic History Museum, if you are interested in the history of Quanzhou, you must go, you can also watch the documentary "Return to Cistong City" in advance, which will be very helpful for understanding the history of Quanzhou.
4⃣️Linluan Ferry (Shihu Wharf) is the treasure I found following the history of Quanzhou . Although it is now just a quiet small village—Shihu Village, it hides the prosperity of Quanzhou. You can take a taxi or take the Shishi 7 bus (about one way 1h) from the Shishi city area. Shihu Mazu Palace and Liusheng Tower Park are also nearby. You can visit them together and experience slowly.
5⃣️Hui Women's Style Garden, the ticket is 30/person, if you eat in some restaurants in the scenic area, you can offset the ticket if you spend 80; you must walk up the small hill (not high and easy to climb), the view from the top of the hill is extremely wide, you can overlook the entire Dazhu Village . If you like to see the sea, don't miss it, the photos are also very good! The coastal road from the northeast gate of Chongwu Ancient City to Hui Women's Style Garden is strongly recommended to choose shared electric bikes (small 🍊continues "Travel"), super treasure blowing sea breeze is super comfortable🛵

Quickly look at my budget tour of Quanzhou that you must see
The warm-toned ancient city of Quanzhou, with its unique color tone, is not seen in other cities.
📸Quanzhou check-in photo spot📸
🔶The place where the poster wall is photographed on the roof
🔸The residential building is not allowed to enter, and the hotel rooftop is also locked. The first attempt to climb the building failed
🔸Kaiyuan Temple Twin Towers, but the second day misjudged the time too early and did not open for business, so gave up.
🔶Temple
Free admission, Quanzhou's iconic twin towers are inside, the temple is ancient, you can hear from the name, it was built in the Tang Dynasty. There is also a memorial hall for Master Hongyi inside, where you can learn about Master Hongyi's story in Quanzhou.
🔶Bell Tower West Street
Check-in photo, Western-style architecture
The fresh and refined flower-wearing women on West Street are also a unique scenery.
🔶View
A golden and brilliant Taoist temple discovered while strolling around, you can go and see if you have time.
🔶Temple
It's not the Chengtian Temple written by Su Shi, the temple is very quiet, it's not like Kaiyuan Temple where there are people everywhere, if you like quiet and few people, you can go here.
🔶Qingjing Temple
A mosque built in the Song Dynasty, one side is the original site ruins, and the other side is the mosque in use, if you are lucky, you can also see Arab worship. The ticket price is 3 yuan (the only ticket expenditure in Quanzhou)
🔶Guanyue Temple
It can be said that it is the temple with the most incense in the ancient city all day long, there are people inside and outside, it seems that everyone is unanimous in the matter of seeking wealth.
🔶Palace
Built in the Song Dynasty, it is the oldest, highest standard, and the center of the spread of Mazu culture at home and abroad. When I went there, the gate was being repaired, and those who are interested can go and see.
🔴The food is also good🔴
🔷Four fruit soup is very delicious, I drank it several times.
🔷Strongly recommend glutinous rice cake, the inside is crispy and particularly delicious, unfortunately, it can only be eaten now, after a long time the inside will become soft and not delicious, can't take away. These two are highly recommended.
🔷The noodle paste eaten on West Street, a small bowl costs more than twenty, feels not worth it, do not recommend, do not remember the other food, overall it's good.
🔷I brought ice cakes and salty taro cakes when I left, except for being a bit too sweet, the taste is good, delicious.
