Before our flight from Shanghai to Osaka, we stopped by Juneyao Air Lounge No. 72, Juneyao Air's international business lounge at Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG), Terminal 2. To be honest, we didn't have any high expectations. During our travels in Asia, we've encountered a wide variety of business lounges: from truly excellent ones to ones where you have to search for an empty seat and the food is instant noodles 😄 So we just stopped in for a quiet snack before our flight. But the lounge was a pleasant surprise. 📍 Location: After international security at T2, head towards D73, then go up one level. The lounge itself is located next to Gate D73. According to Priority Pass, this is the international departures area. 🛋️ What's inside First impression: quite cozy and quiet. The lounge doesn't look huge, but it's spacious enough: there are regular chairs, sofa areas, and spots where you can comfortably sit with a laptop or just relax before your flight. And most importantly for me, it didn't feel like a train station, with everyone sitting close together. There were plenty of empty seats during our visit. The interior is also pleasant: lots of wood, soft colors, decorative elements, and Juneyao Air's signature style. The lounge itself is decorated in a rather calm Chinese aesthetic, without the feeling of an old-fashioned VIP lounge. 🍽️ What about the food? This is where things get interesting. The selection isn't as extensive as in some large international lounges, but it's quite good. There are hot dishes, appetizers, fruit, desserts, drinks, and a separate noodle area. The published information about the lounge lists separate hours for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the noodles are available for a longer period. We also found another nice thing – pelmeni 🥟 The portion turned out to be quite generous, and the pelmeni themselves were truly delicious. It's not the kind of thing where you grab food from the lounge just because "well, since it's free, I have to try it" 😄 🥂 Drinks are a different story But there was a surprisingly large selection of alcohol. Several wines, sparkling wine, spirits, liqueurs, and other drinks. I didn't even bother taking photos of everything there. According to the lounge information, alcoholic drinks are included in the standard service. So, before a late-night flight, it's perfectly fine to have a little aperitif 🥂 🚿 A few more useful features The lounge offers Wi-Fi, flight information, charging stations, a relaxation area, luggage storage, and showers. Showers are available by contacting the check-in desk. Another feature I personally really appreciate is the restroom inside the lounge. Clean and comfortable. It might seem like a small thing, but having to leave the business lounge for the general terminal just to use the restroom is incredibly annoying. ⏱️ How long can you stay? According to current Priority Pass information, the standard limit is up to 2 hours, and access may be restricted during busy periods. The lounge itself is currently listed as open 24 hours. However, access requirements depend on the specific access type you use—airline status, ticket, program like Priority Pass, etc.—so it's best to check this for your specific access type. ✈️ Our impression We ate, drank, relaxed before our next flight, and even managed to fill out the Japanese arrival form. Compared to the business lounge in Guangzhou, which we liked better, this one is still simpler in terms of size and variety. But for a few hours waiting for an international flight, it's a very pleasant option. And you know what we especially liked? We planned our visit to Shanghai Greenhouse Garden in advance, and the architecture was the main reason I wanted to see it. The plants were certainly part of the attraction, but I was even more interested in how a modern tropical garden had been created around the remains of an industrial site. From the outside, the complex already looks unusual. Smooth glass structures and curved roofs appear among straight steel lines, creating a contrast between organic forms and industrial geometry. It feels futuristic, but the past has not been erased to achieve that effect. This became even clearer once we entered. Instead of hiding every trace of the former industrial buildings, the designers preserved structural elements and incorporated them into the new space. Even an old crane remains in place. Surrounded by tropical greenery, it no longer looks like abandoned machinery but becomes part of the composition. That balance impressed me most. New walkways, glass walls and landscaped areas sit beside heavy metal structures, yet the result does not feel artificial. The old and new parts support each other, giving the garden an identity that a completely new building might not have had. Some of the most memorable architectural details were the large circular openings. They frame different parts of the garden and allow light to enter in unexpected ways. Depending on where you stand, the circles can look like windows, tunnels or giant pieces of abstract art. They also create excellent opportunities for photographs because the light, plants and people constantly form new compositions inside them. Another highlight was the underwater corridor. Walking through it briefly changes the perspective again: instead of looking down at the water, you find yourself surrounded by it. It is one of those transitional spaces that makes moving between different areas feel like part of the experience. The route is not completely straightforward. Paths curve, split and reconnect, and it is easy to miss some sections during the first walk. We completed two circuits to make sure we had seen everything. Altogether, we spent around two hours inside, including plenty of time for photographs. The garden is popular, but during our visit the number of people felt manageable. I had purchased our tickets in advance through Trip.com, which made the visit easy to include in our plans. Shanghai Greenhouse Garden is worth visiting for its plants, but its architecture makes it much more than a conventional greenhouse. For me, its most interesting achievement is how carefully the industrial past has been preserved and transformed rather than simply replaced. Bright, cheerful, with a pleasant chocolate aroma! It's always crowded! Of course, you can mix your own colors of your favorite candies here. Day 1: The Bund & The Glow Up Arrived in Shanghai via the super-efficient High-Speed Train from Nanjing! 🚄 Headed straight to Nanjing Dong Lu for some sightseeing. The highlight? Seeing The Bund transform from evening to night. 🌆 The moment the lights came on was magical. The skyline is iconic, but seeing it sparkle against the night sky is something else. The lighting is truly "on point." Stayed late just to soak in the view. 🌃 Day 2: Tree Gardens, Marathons & Coffee Woke up to explore the unique architecture at 1000 Trees (the building with the garden in sequence). It’s a visual masterpiece! 🌳🏢 Unexpected highlight: Caught the Shanghai Marathon happening right by the river! The energy was electric. 🏃♂️💨 Next stop: The Starbucks Reserve Roastery. I honestly can’t believe SpaceLab isn’t one of Shanghai’s most popular family restaurants! If you’re traveling with kids, this place is a must-visit. ✨ Food is delivered by futuristic space shuttles, and the whole space-themed atmosphere is 10/10. Recommended beautiful scenery in Shanghai! Wukang Building is really super famous, and the transportation is convenient! Take the subway out of the station, walk a few minutes to arrive, not even close to see a large group of people around the road across the building mourning photos, really popular 🤳🏼 ~ The atmosphere is very lively, people do not stop so check in, take beautiful photos to remember. To be honest, the Wukang Building really feels good, the architectural style is classic enough, and the exterior is so well preserved that you will be shocked by its grandeur when you walk by! I couldn't help but take my phone out and take a few selfies with the building, I feel a little cooler 🤣 The angle is just right and I can take a panoramic view of the building! After taking pictures, there are actually quite a lot of things to do nearby, so I came to Song Qingling's former residence. However, it's a pity that I found out that it had been closed and couldn't visit 😭 If you want to go again next time, remember to check the opening hours first - don't miss such a beautiful literary and artistic attraction! After walking, I found a western restaurant nearby. I visited the Valentino flagship concept store, and even on a weekday, there was a long queue outside. Every outlet seems to attract a crowd from opening until sold out. The display is stunning. Rows of croissants, pastries, pretzels, and cakes make it difficult to choose just one. It feels more like walking into a luxury boutique than a bakery. Not everything was equally impressive, though. Some pastries lived up to the hype, while others looked better than they tasted. #planitorwingit I’m definitely a plan it person. 😄 For me, a trip doesn’t start when I get on the plane. It starts months before the trip itself. I like to know the full plan. Where I’m going each day, what I want to see, how much time I need and, of course, what I’m going to wear. 😂 I spend a lot of time looking for clothes before a trip. I can spend ages in fitting rooms, trying different things and thinking about what could work with the places I’m going to visit. Then comes the fun part: putting the outfits together. ❤️ I like creating complete looks rather than just buying separate pieces. I think about which top goes with which trousers, what shoes will work, what accessories I need and which outfit will be best for each location. Sometimes my preparation can take several months. And right now, I’m already preparing for my next holiday, which is still a month away. 😄 Some of the outfits are already starting to come together. By the time I leave, I want everything in my suitcase to have a purpose. I’ll already know what I’m wearing with what, so I won’t have to stand in the hotel room wondering what to put on. My suitcase will probably look like a little wardrobe. 😂 Everything will be arranged so I know which pieces go together. For some places, I choose comfort. If I know I’ll be walking for hours, comfortable shoes and practical clothes are a must. But sometimes beauty wins. ❤️ If I know I’m going somewhere especially beautiful, I want an outfit that matches the place and the mood. I love choosing clothes for old streets, temples, beautiful hotels, autumn landscapes or colourful city views. And then there is my suitcase. 😂 I have to admit, losing my suitcase would be a real tragedy for me. Not because of the suitcase itself, but because of everything I carefully chose and packed for the trip. I would rather carry it myself, no matter how heavy it is, than risk travelling without the things I planned to take. 😄 I could probably fly somewhere with just a backpack and survive. But would I feel as confident and happy? Probably not. At home, everyday life is usually much quieter. But when I travel, I like being a little brighter. I like dressing up, taking photos and creating a completely different version of myself. Maybe that’s another reason why I love travelling so much. When I’m somewhere new, I feel like I can be anyone I want to be. ✨ So yes, I’m definitely on the Plan It side. I love having a plan, searching for clothes, creating outfits, packing my suitcase and imagining the places I’ll visit. For me, planning doesn’t take away the spontaneity. The city is gradually painted in new colours, and here's a chronological guide to "colour hunting." 🌸 Pink Muhly: A Pink Cloud Dream Pink muhly is one of Shanghai's most photogenic autumn landscapes. A warm-season grass native to the North American prairies, its flower heads are so fine that when planted en masse, they create a pink cloud effect. Where to see it: · Jiabei Country Park: over 60 mu of pink muhly. Due to the hot summer of 2026, flowering started earlier — peak expected during the holidays. Enter through Gate 3; photo spots with umbrellas and pink arches are set up nearby. · Binjiang Forest Park (Phase 2): many call it the "most beautiful pink muhly" in the city. From the east entrance, it's a 5–10 minute walk. Best time for photos — 3:00–5:00 PM, when the light is softest. · Shanghai Botanical Garden: monocot area, turn right from Gate 3. In the morning (6:30–8:00 AM) — soft light and dew on the flowers; in the evening (4:00–5:30 PM) — beautiful silhouettes in backlight. One of my favourite local discoveries in Shanghai was not a hidden attraction, but the everyday streets between two famous places. We started our walk in Xintiandi shortly before sunset and chose Yu Garden as our destination. Both places are well known, but the most interesting part of this route was everything we discovered between them. Leaving the polished streets of Xintiandi behind, the city gradually changed. Instead of landmark views, we began noticing residential buildings, older neighbourhoods and ordinary scenes from everyday Shanghai life. This was not the futuristic skyline seen from the Bund, nor the carefully restored lanes of a popular tourist district. It was a more spontaneous collection of streets, buildings and small details that we probably would have missed from a taxi or metro carriage. Some streets were lined with older low-rise houses. Others revealed an unexpected contrast between traditional buildings and modern businesses. Small shops and restaurants often had unusual facades, creative signs or entrances that made us stop and look twice. There was no single place that became the highlight. The pleasure came from watching the surroundings change as we walked. Starting before sunset made the experience even better. The softer daylight brought out the textures of brick walls, windows and weathered facades. As the light began to fade, restaurant signs and shopfronts became brighter, giving the same streets a completely different atmosphere. For photographers, this kind of walk offers more freedom than visiting a famous viewpoint. There is no single composition everyone is trying to capture. You can focus on architecture, street details, local life or the contrast between old and new Shanghai. My practical advice is to leave more time than the navigation app suggests. The direct journey may not take very long, but stopping for photographs, looking into side streets and changing direction whenever something catches your attention can easily become the main activity. Before coming to Shanghai, I imagined endless skyscrapers, huge roads and a very futuristic city. And yes, Shanghai definitely has all of that — but the biggest surprise for me was a completely different side of the city. 🏡 The Former French Concession is full of quiet, low-rise streets, huge trees and beautiful historic buildings. There are so many of them that at some point I literally stopped taking photos because every second corner looked worth photographing. The area feels completely different from the modern parts of Shanghai: much calmer, greener and more European. You can spend hours just walking around without any real destination. ☕ It’s also a great area to stay in. It’s quiet, very walkable, and there are tons of amazing cafés, bakeries and restaurants around — many of them genuinely top level. For me, this was one of the most unexpected and memorable parts of Shanghai.
