Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Pena Palace is a must-visit
#2023travelwish
There are plenty of palaces in Portugal but if you can only visit one, this should be it (Queluz is another must-see!)
Located on top of a hill, there are great views and you can see the ocean from here. Although the views are great, you’ll probably visit because of the beautiful colors and amazing architecture.
It’s very popular so it’s recommended you get tickets online in advance.
You can either reach it by licensed tuk-tuk or on foot, which is a nice walk through the woods.
Must visit while in Sintra
Sintra has to be on your itinerary if you are visiting Lisbon. The town is small enough for one day visit, but has alot to see.
We left Lisbon at 830 and had breakfast in Sintra before embarking on our journey. First stop was Quinta de Regaleira - a private home and garden built in the early 20th century - and one of the most interesting structures in the garden is the 9 levels spiral well, hidden amongst the trees and rocks.
Our second stop was the colorful and almost Disney like Peña Palace. perched on top of the hill and can be reached by bus from the town center.
The last stop of the day was the Moorish Castle which is only 10 min away on foot from the palace. One can see miles away from the castle top and even Lisbon on a clear day.
Sintra is only 40 min away by train from Lisbon from Rosario Staton. It is a popular destination especially in the summer. tickets should be booked online in advance.

The Pena palace is located in the mountains and it's location is absolutely amazing. Get your tickets online in advance which were about 13 euros each
Powerful Pena
I am still marveling at this beautiful gigantic colourful palace. Perfectly standing on top of d Sintra mountain, #penapalace atau dalam bahasa negara sana digelar Palacio Nacional da Pena oversees d Atlantic Ocean & some parts of Lisbon.
During d whole visit I pretended like I was in a Walt Disney castle, only its cheaper (€13.50) & surrounded with 200 hectares of garden. tu acik macam beruk mak yeh terlompat sana sini fefeeling skit
Do consider visiting this place cause its only a 45min train journey from Lisbon & u can opt to walk or take a shuttle bus to the palace. bila da sampai Sintra (atas bukit & dlu tempat royals la) ni, kami menapak la juga sebab ada banyak gila castles (kalau ada masa lebih, sila pergi sekali Castle of d Moors. tu lawa juga tapi tak sempat pergi sebab nak kejar grafitti lagi di city), bangunan, rumah & tempat worth visiting along d way up. siap kami benti lunch (eryzal suka masak bawak bekal, acik tolong makan & cuci tupperware je)
Quick info: initially it was a monastery & later reconstructed by King Ferdinand in 1847. Highly influenced by d Neo-Gothic, Neo-Islamic, Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Manueline architectural styles (Wikipedia)
Most importantly, it has landed on d #unescoworldheritage sites list and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal
of course my pics don't do justice to the beauty of this place tapi sumpah cantikkkk

The pictures are from the Palaco da Pena located in the small town of #sintra in #portugal . The place is very colorful with super nice views and a good landscape. It is located in a small forest on a hill. If you stay in Lisbon you can access the palace by trains that are running frequently and cheap. If you go by car note that the parking places are limited.
#happynewyear
Palacio da Pena is recognized as one of the top ten most beautiful castles in the world. In 1995, it was selected as a World Heritage Site as part of the Sintra Cultural Landscape. It is now frequently used for the state affairs of the Portuguese President and other government officials. In the Middle Ages, it was only a church of the Virgin. In 1493, the Joao II couple came here for pilgrimage, and the successor Manuel I built the monastery. In 1755, the monastery was razed to the ground during the Lisbon earthquake. In 1842-1854, the summer palace was vigorously built. The architect was Baron von Eschwege, the German, who was finally completed in 1885. The palace is both Gothic, Renaissance, Moorish and Manuel.

Its UNESCO World Heritage–listed centre, Sintra-Vila, is dotted with pastel-hued manors folded into luxuriant hills that roll down to the blue Atlantic.
✨Must visit ✨
📍National Palace of Pena
The renowned jewel in the crown of the Sintra Hills. It’s one of the world’s most spectacular palaces resembling a fairytale castle.
📍The Moorish Castle
Soaring 412m above sea level, this mist-enshrouded ruined medieval castle looms high above the surrounding forest. When the clouds peel away, the vistas over Sintra’s palace-dotted hill and dale, across to the glittering Atlantic are – like the climb – breathtaking. The 10th-century Moorish castle’s dizzying ramparts stretch across the mountain ridges and past moss-clad boulders the size of small buses.

Sintra is such a delight in lisbon even though it takes a approximately half an hour ride out of the city. I had really enjoyed the town on Sunday afternoon. I climbed to the Pena national palace and saw the town from the hills of Sintra. This is such scenic town.

Sintra Castles
if you go to lisbon make a day trip to sintra, beautiful architecture, castles and gardens
Day 3 in Europe--The town of Sintra, home to the royal palaces and castles
📍Attraction Address: The town of Sintra is located near Lisbon
🚗Access to Attraction: It's just over a 30-minute train ride from Lisbon to Sintra
👍️Must-Visit Attractions: Sintra town (Sintra) was the summer residence of Moorish nobility and the Portuguese royal family, situated at the foot of the mountains sharing the same name as the city, and is a beautiful place. The area is characterized by rolling hills, with palaces, castles, and villas nestled amidst the lush greenery, blending human culture with natural scenery. Its unique cultural landscape has led UNESCO to list it as a World Heritage Site. Moreover, considering that its natural scenery is as important as its historical architecture, UNESCO has also created a special category for it--'Cultural Landscape'.
🎟️Ticket Information: Sintra has seven palaces, castles, and manor villas, with two bus routes, 434 and 435, as well as taxis and other vehicles.
💗Other Tips: It's impossible to see everything in one day. This time I chose one palace, one castle, and one villa, and it wasn't until after five in the afternoon that I finished. I recommend staying for two days, as the scenery and climate here are very pleasant and worth looking forward to.

Sintra + Regaleira (day trip from Lisbon) 🇵🇹 with dos and don’ts 😉
#cherryblossom2024
This place is certainly a must go if you are in Lisbon. It’s really close and beautiful. A day trip is enough to see everything.
🚗 My suggestion is to get a group/private tour that pick you up in the city and show you around Sintra.
It’s more convenient and you don’t need to find a parking lot, so it’s way less stressful. 🚫
Choose a tour that includes the palace and the regaleira, they are both in Sintra, but different places.
👑 The palace is where the king used to spend his summer, and later on became his official house (but I won’t give spoilers, you just and learn by yourself).
🪴 The Regaleira is a private garden with many mystical stories, inverted towers and tree species from all over the world (but again, you just visit to truly understand the mystery behind his place).
🍩 Finally, the tour guys will certainly bring you to the village, where you can try some sweets that were invented originally there. The most popular shop is the Periquita.
🍫Also try the Ginga in the chocolate cup.
⛔️My tour also included a fast visit to Cascais, but I don’t recommend it, the visit is too fast and you cannot really enjoy your time there. So If you can, skip it 😉

Stunning scenes in Sintra
So worth a trip if you’re in Lisbon! We spent the whole day here just wandering around it’s so beautiful. Definitely get a tuk tuk to the top - you don’t want to walk up… You can go inside the castle, walk up the hills to the view points, lovely forests and gardens and we loved the well. The little town also has so many cute cafes and restaurants to grab food. #localguides #Lisbon
Real-life Disney Castle
Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a captivating Portuguese town known for its opulent palaces, extravagant villas, historic sites, lush forests and jagged hills.
Must-see attractions include:🌟
1.The whimsical Palácio da Pena
2. Moorish castle ruins
3. Mystical Quinta da Regaleira gardens
4. Arabian-inspired Palácio de Monserrate.
Beyond the tourist routes, Sintra offers dense forests, rugged coastlines, secluded religious sites, and breathtaking viewpoints for adventurous travelers.⛰️
How to get there:🛣
Sintra is a town in the foothills of the Sintra Mountains, about an hour northwest of Lisbon.
1. I don't recommend driving to Sintra. Parking at the palaces and within the town is tough (as in, parking options are virtually nonexistent).🚘
2. Trains run regularly from Lisbon's Rossio station (up to 6 times per hour during the busy season). Tickets are €4.60 return (5.10 Euro total if you don't already have a Viva Viagem card, which is Lisbon's transport card). The journey from Lisbon to Sintra takes about 40 minutes.🚆
3. There's also a combo ticket you can purchase for the train and Sintra buses for €14. If you're going to try to get this combo ticket, I recommend purchasing in- person at the station.
Getting around Sintra:🚍
The most affordable way to get around is by taking the tourist buses that run regular routes to Sintra's most popular attractions. These buses are 434 and 435.

Discover Sintra with me!
My recent trip to Sintra, Portugal, was nothing short of magical. Nestled amidst the Sintra Mountains on the Lisbon Coast, this enchanting town felt like stepping into a fairy tale, with its lush landscapes, mystic forests, and breathtaking palaces and castles that whisper tales of yore.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Pena Palace. Perched atop one of Sintra's highest peaks, this Romanticist palace is a riot of colors and architectural styles, truly a testament to the creative genius of King Ferdinand II. Its vibrant facades and whimsical interiors, coupled with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, made for an unforgettable experience.
Equally captivating was the Quinta da Regaleira, a gothic estate that is a masterpiece of symbolic architecture. The gardens are a mystic's dream, with hidden tunnels, enchanting grottoes, and the enigmatic Initiation Well, which spirals deep into the earth, serving as a venue for ceremonial rites.
No trip to Sintra would be complete without wandering through the historical center, with its medieval streets, traditional shops, and the Sintra National Palace, distinguished by its iconic twin chimneys. The town's rich culinary scene also delighted me, offering everything from traditional Portuguese dishes to sweet treats like the famous Travesseiros de Sintra.
My journey also led me to the Moorish Castle, an ancient fortress that offers a glimpse into Portugal's Moorish past and provides stunning views of Sintra and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. The sense of history is palpable, and the serenity of the surrounding forests makes it a perfect spot for reflection.
Sintra is a place of beauty, mystery, and history, offering a myriad of experiences for any traveler. Its unique blend of natural and architectural wonders makes it a must-visit destination, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who wander its verdant paths and explore its opulent palaces. Sintra is not just a town; it's a timeless escape into a world where fantasy and reality converge. #foryou #falltrip #localguides #freehotelstay
