Maldives: Useful tips and impressions from Thulusdhoo Island
Good afternoon! We vacationed in the Maldives from January 20th to 30th, 2026, on Thulusdhoo Island, staying at the Season Paradise Hotel.
· *Transit:**
We're from the region, so we first took the train to Moscow, then flew Aeroflot from Sheremetyevo Airport (Terminal C). Online check-in is available 24 hours in advance; space is limited, but it's free. Baggage allowance is 23 kg per person. We even rented a SUP board. The flight was good; we were fed twice, and on the way back, we were given snacks of dried fruit. Drinks were available without limitation. Despite an hour's delay, everything went smoothly. Customs control was quick, our luggage was X-rayed, and no one performed any strict searches.
At the airport, we bought a SIM card with unlimited internet for $50, and it worked flawlessly throughout our vacation. We had to wait 2.5 hours for the speedboat, which isn't scheduled very often. The crossing to the island took about 25 minutes. A hotel staff member met us at the port and drove us there in five minutes.
· *Check-in:**
Check-in was quick and we were offered a delicious cocktail. We were given a key card and shown to our room. The room was standard: a large bed, shower, toilet, TV, closet, safe, and desk. The balcony was small, but a clothes dryer was provided upon request. The safe and water heater issues were fixed the same day, which is a special plus for the staff.
· *Room:**
Hot water was only in the shower; the taps were cold. The bed linens and towels looked clean, but we were bothered by an unpleasant odor. Towels are provided in a standard set—foot, body, face, and beach towels. Tea, coffee, water, and sugar were replenished daily. The room had an empty refrigerator, a kettle, and air conditioning. The soundproofing was poor, so everything depended on the neighbors. We were only half-lucky—it was quiet at first, but then some loud foreigners arrived. The view from the window was of a garden with a little bit of the ocean.
· *Hotel:**
On the ground floor are the reception, dining room, and gift shop. On the rooftop is a swimming pool, gym, and bar with a great view of the ocean. The pool is clean, surrounded by sun loungers, and there are restrooms and showers nearby. The hotel garden area is a pleasant spot with a café, bar, and a stage for performances on Fridays. The nearest beach is literally half a minute away. The ocean in this area is shallow, and swimming is comfortable, even at low tide.
· *Meals:**
We had breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was always standard, but sufficient. Dinner had more variety, with a different menu every day. On Fridays, they had a grill. For lunch, we went to different cafes; the food was delicious, and cost around $35 for two.
· *Alcohol:**
There's none on the island, only non-alcoholic beer. There's a barge for those who want to bring a drink. We didn't check it out, but we heard alcohol is available at the resorts.
· *Wildlife:**
The island is home to many flying foxes, black birds, cats, crabs, parrots, and lizards. Moray eels, lionfish, and other fish were seen in the ocean near the rock wall. In the evening, stingrays and small sharks swam ashore.
· *Beaches:**
The most beautiful beach is by the port. There's also a sandbar there for spectacular sunset photos. The wind and current vary depending on the time of day and the phase of the moon.
· *Sun:**
The sun here is very harsh. Even with sunscreen and in the shade, I quickly got sunburned. The local shop assistants claim their sunscreens are more effective.
· *Shops and Currency:**
There are many shops on the island, but there are no price tags; we checked everything with the salespeople. Payments in dollars and local currency vary, and discounts are sometimes offered.
· *Infrastructure:**
The island is large, with shops, cafes, mosques, schools, a hospital, and a police station. Be sure to take a stroll to get a feel for the atmosphere.
· *Excursions:**
We only visited one resort, organized by a group of tourists. The whole day cost 13,000 rubles per person. I know they offer turtle and shark watching trips, and fishing trips, but we didn't try them.
I hope my review is helpful to future travelers!
