Xiuning travel guide and discussion

You guys, seriously! This severely underrated hidden gem of a mountain—Qiyun Mountain—is truly breathtaking! 🏔️ It’s not one of those crowded tourist traps, but a healing place where you’ll want to stop and just take it all in. The Danxia red cliffs paired with the vibrant life of the ancient village are absolutely incredible. 🥹✨ 🚗Getting there Take the high-speed train to Huangshan North Station, then take a taxi or the shuttle bus from the station; it takes about 40 minutes. For those driving, it’s even easier—the attraction has a large parking lot, making parking super convenient. 🅿️ 📌Recommended route (tried and tested!) Yuehua Cable Car 🚡 → Wangxian Tower → Shouzi Rock → Zhenxian Cave Mansion (grotto relics nestled in the mountains, very atmospheric in the daylight) → Yuehua Sky Street → Taisu Palace → Xiaohutian → Yuxu Palace → Ziyun Pass → Wulao Peak → Fangla Village → Danxia Corridor → Highest Peak → Cable car down The pace of the entire route is just right, with Danxia cliffs accompanying you the whole way. Yuehua Sky Street is full of local charm—with cliffs on one side and everyday life on the other. Reaching the summit and looking down at the villages and fields below, the view is so expansive it’ll make you want to shout! 🌄 🏨Accommodation recommendation I stayed at the Qiyun Mountain Resort Hotel, located in Qiyun Town at the foot of the mountain. It’s the official hotel for the attraction and is just a few dozen meters from the cable car!! You can walk out and hop straight on the cable car—super convenient. The hotel has its own restaurant and a sports/leisure area, so you don’t have to worry about dining or relaxing. It’s a dream for lazy travelers. 😭💤 📍Address: Qiyun Town, Qiyun Mountain Scenic Area, Xiuning County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province 🕐Qiyun Town is open all year round, so you can visit anytime. 💡Tips ✅ Summer perks: Free admission for those under 18 🎫; free admission + cable car for children under 1.2m; college students over 18 can grab a discounted combo ticket for CNY 88! ✅ Attire: There are many mountain trails, so be sure to wear comfortable, non-slip sneakers 👟! It’s windy at the summit, so remember to bring a light jacket 🧥. ✅ Supplies: Yuehua Sky Street (open 8:00 AM–5:00 PM) has snacks and convenience stores, making it super easy to buy water and snacks without having to carry heavy loads while hiking 🧗‍♀️. ✅ Photography: The Danxia red cliffs, Yuehua Sky Street, and the summit viewing platform are all excellent photo spots! The light and shadows are stunning on sunny days, and the atmosphere is incredible on misty days 📸. Qiyun Mountain offers more than just scenery; it has a deep Taoist cultural heritage. Walking along the Sky Street, with cliffs on one side and local life on the other, it’s quiet and healing. If you’re tired of crowded tourist spots, this is the perfect place to go for a hike and see the Danxia landforms. 💛

Every autumn, social media feeds are flooded with Jiuzhaigou and Kanas. But honestly—those places are far, expensive, and crowded. If you only have a weekend or two or three days, don't want to drive, and don't want to deal with crowds, these 4 autumn hidden gems accessible by high-speed rail are worth visiting. From ancient villages with Shaiqiu (sun-drying crops) to cities filled with the scent of osmanthus, from the ink-wash painting style of Huizhou to the plane trees of Jinling, you can experience four completely different autumn scenes for just a few hundred per person. Save this for later and enjoy autumn at your own pace🍂 🍁 Jiangxi · Wuyuan | China's unique "Shaiqiu" oil painting 🚄 High-speed rail to "Wuyuan Station" | Best time: Mid-Nov–early Dec | Recommended: 2 days, 1 night Many people know Wuyuan for its spring rapeseed flowers, but few realize its autumn is the real highlight. It features a unique Shaiqiu landscape found nowhere else in the country—households display red chili peppers, yellow corn, pumpkins, and rice on eaves and drying racks. With white walls and dark tiles as a backdrop, the red, orange, and yellow colors covering the hills look like a palette overturned by nature. Huangling is the pinnacle of Shaiqiu. In the early morning, before the mist clears, ancient maple leaves paired with curling smoke, walking through the bluestone alleys makes you feel like time has slowed down. 📋 Recommended itinerary · Day 1: Arrive in Wuyuan in the afternoon > Huangling Shaiqiu > Sunset > Stay in Huangling · Day 2: Morning mist and ancient maples in Shicheng Village > Red Maple Ancient Trail in Changxi Village > Return 🍽 What to eat Steamed pork with rice flour (Wuyuan style, fatty but not greasy), mugwort cakes (autumn version of Qingming cakes, both savory and sweet), farmhouse chicken soup, braised tofu (local specialty, a must-try) 💡 Tips to avoid pitfalls · You must stay inside the Huangling scenic area! Before 7:00 AM, before tourists arrive, the entire Shaiqiu scene is yours · The best time for the Shicheng morning mist is 6:30–7:30 AM. If you go later, the mist clears and the crowds arrive · Wuyuan attractions are scattered. It is recommended to carpool or charter a car after arriving at the station; it saves much more time than waiting for buses 🌿 Zhejiang · Hangzhou | An autumn dream in Jiangnan scented with osmanthus 🚄 High-speed rail to "Hangzhou East Station" | Best time: Late Sept–Nov | Recommended: 2–3 days If you can only visit one city in autumn, I vote for Hangzhou. Starting in late September, the entire city is taken over by osmanthus flowers. Walking on the street, a breeze brings a shower of osmanthus petals, and even the air you breathe is sweet. West Lake's water is clearest in autumn, the plane trees on Beishan Street slowly turn yellow, and the trees at Jiuxi Yanshu are painted in layers of color—lake water, green mountains, and fallen leaves intertwine. Just walking around feels like the essence of Jiangnan autumn. 📋 Recommended itinerary · Day 1: Beishan Street plane trees > Broken Bridge > Su Causeway stroll > Sunset at Leifeng Pagoda · Day 2: Osmanthus viewing at Manjuelong > Drink osmanthus Longjing tea in the tea village > Hike at Jiuxi Yanshu · Day 3 (Optional): Reed catkins at Xixi Wetland > Autumn Zen at Lingyin Temple 🍽 What to eat Osmanthus sugar lotus root (autumn exclusive, soft and sweet), Pian'erchuan (a daily staple for Hangzhou locals, noodle soup with bamboo shoots, preserved vegetables, and shredded pork), Longjing shrimp, Dingsheng cake 💡 Tips to avoid pitfalls · Manjuelong is overcrowded on weekends during the osmanthus season. Be sure to go on a weekday or arrive before 8:00 AM · Don't take a boat on West Lake! Renting a shared bike and riding along the lake is the right way to experience autumn in Hangzhou · Osmanthus Longjing tea is only available in autumn. Any shop in the tea village is good; don't buy expensive ones in the scenic area 🏞️ Anhui · Southern Anhui | An ink-wash painting wonderland 10 times more beautiful than Hongcun 🚄 High-speed rail to "Huangshan North Station" | Best time: Late Oct–mid-Nov | Recommended: 2–3 days Stop crowding into Hongcun and Xidi. Those in the know head into the mountains of Southern Anhui in autumn. Autumn here looks like it stepped out of an ink-wash painting—Tachuan is one of China's top three autumn destinations, with Chinese tallow trees transitioning from yellow to red in layers, and white walls and black tiles appearing faintly in the morning mist. Mulihong is hidden on a mountaintop nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, known as the "Huizhou ancient village in the clouds." After rain, the sea of clouds surges, making the village look like it's floating in the sky. The bald cypresses at Qishu Lake stand by the water, their golden reflections covering the lake surface, quiet as an oil painting. 📋 Recommended itinerary · Day 1: Huangshan North Station > Tachuan red leaves > Xieli autumn colors > Stay in a Tachuan homestay · Day 2: Hike up to Mulihong > See the sea of clouds > Qishu Lake bald cypresses > Return · Day 3 (Optional): Huizhou Ancient City > Yangchan Earth Building Shaiqiu 🍽 What to eat Huizhou stinky tofu (pan-fried until crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, perfect with chili sauce), braised pork with dried bamboo shoots, Huangshan sesame cake (stuffed with preserved mustard greens and pork, best when fresh out of the oven), stinky mandarin fish (smells pungent but tastes delicious, a representative Huizhou dish) 💡 Tips to avoid pitfalls · Mulihong requires a 30-minute hike up the mountain. It is recommended to stay for one night; the sea of clouds outside your window the next morning is worth the price · The best shooting spots in Tachuan are the small hillside at the village entrance and the viewing platform. Arrive before 7:00 AM · It takes about 1 hour by car from Huangshan North Station to Tachuan. It is recommended to book a transfer in advance 🏮 Jiangsu · Nanjing | The 600-meter sacred way hides the most beautiful autumn in Jinling 🚄 High-speed rail to "Nanjing South Station" | Best time: Nov–early Dec | Recommended: 2–3 days Nanjing's autumn comes with its own vintage filter. The 600-meter sacred way on Shixiang Road at the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum turns into a golden tunnel in autumn—ginkgo yellow, maple red, and tallow orange intertwine, while stone elephants and horses stand silently. 600 years of history are hidden in the fallen leaves. The plane tree leaves on Yihe Road cover the entire street, with Republican-era villas hidden behind the tree shadows. Walking here feels like traveling back to the old days. The dusk at Xuanwu Lake, the red walls and ginkgo trees at Qixia Temple, and the bustling atmosphere of Laomendong—Nanjing's autumn is gentle and profound. 📋 Recommended itinerary · Day 1: Shixiang Road at Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum > Meiling Palace > Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum > Snacks at Laomendong in the evening · Day 2: Yihe Road plane trees > Sunset at Xuanwu Lake > Night view of Confucius Temple and Qinhuai River · Day 3 (Optional): Maple viewing at Qixia Mountain > Qixia Temple 🍽 What to eat Salted duck (a staple for Nanjing locals, any deli shop is good), duck blood vermicelli soup (Yadebao or Xiaopanji), plum blossom cake (street stall in Laomendong, red bean paste filling is the classic), sugar taro seedlings (osmanthus sugar water with taro seedlings, a bowl in autumn warms the heart) 💡 Tips to avoid pitfalls · Enter the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum before 7:30 AM. There are fewer people and the light is soft. Any photo on Shixiang Road is a masterpiece · Qixia Mountain turns red about a week later than Shixiang Road. Late November is the best time to go · The Nanjing metro covers all attractions, so there's no need to take a taxi. Just get a metro code on Alipay and scan it directly The best autumn trip is never about going to a faraway place. It's about buying a high-speed rail ticket, going to an unfamiliar city, stepping on fallen leaves, smelling the osmanthus, tasting the local flavors, and then coming back slowly. Four cities, four types of autumn, pick the nearest weekend and set off🍂 Which one do you want to visit the most? Tell me in the comments section~

#adventuretrips Full-screen Live Photos! These ancient villages in Wuyuan are seriously stunning! · If you've only got a short 2-day break, I genuinely recommend coming to Wuyuan. Just wandering through old villages, walking mountain paths, and eating home-cooked food... Stay for two days and your whole vibe just relaxes · 2 Days 1 Night Itinerary Day 1: Arrive at Wuyuan Station Lunch in town → Fengshan Village → Check in at Chaguan Village Day 2: Ancient Village Hiking Chaguan Village → Hongguan Village → Lingjiao Village → Return trip Villages Worth Visiting 1 Chaguan Village That viral photo of the farmer leading his ox? Yeah, it's right here. Early morning mist, an old man leading an ox across a stone bridge... With the stream and old camphor trees, it's literally a real-life ink painting of Jiangnan. Hongguan Village Super close to Chaguan, totally walkable. Lots of students come here to sketch. There's a thousand-year-old camphor tree at the entrance, known as the "First Camphor of Jiangnan." The local farmhouse food is super authentic, all ingredients are fresh from the area. Walk towards the creek and there's this cool crooked tree-sitting on it, feeling the breeze, and just spacing out is so comfy. Lingjiao Village At the village entrance, there's a famous "Tree of Resilience" that's over 300 years old. It survived lightning strikes and fires before, burning the inside hollow. But the next year, it sprouted new buds again. Honestly pretty shocking to see! Fengshan Village Jin Yong's hometown! Even the electrical boxes look like martial arts manuals lol. Dragon Subduing Palm, Sunflower Manual-it's all super interesting. Longtian Pagoda by the fields reflects perfectly in the water, great for photos. Little Tips · Public transport isn't great between the county town and the villages. Once you get to Wuyuan Station, renting or chartering a car is the way to go. · Very low commercialization. You can grab snacks at small shops near the entrances. Definitely try the local farmhouse dishes in Hongguan Village. #healingsmalltown#mychilladventureinahiddengeiddenge... #traveleditorialdepartmenttment #iknowthehiddengems #avoidthecrowdsandgohereere #wuyuan #jiangxitravel #wuyuantravel #nichetraveldestinationsons #healingscenery

Two-Day Trip to Anhui Qiyun Mountain | A Fairyland of Clouds and Mist After Rain, Real-Life "Jian Lai" Lizhu Dongtian Guide I. Travel Transportation Guide 📍Location: Qiyun Mountain Scenic Area, Xiuning County, Huangshan, Anhui 🚄Take the high-speed train to Huangshan North Station, then transfer to Xiuning Line 1 bus for only 2 yuan directly to the scenic area; if public transportation is inconvenient, a taxi ride takes about 40 minutes to Qiyun Town. Qiyun Mountain is one of China's Four Great Taoist Mountains. Emperor Qianlong inscribed it as "Unparalleled Wonderland, First Mountain in Jiangnan." After rain, the mountain is enveloped in a sea of clouds, making it a hidden gem for Wuxia-style adventures. It's the real-life filming location for "Jian Lai" Lizhu Dongtian, combining ancient Taoist charm with wild mountain scenery. II. Two-Day Classic Itinerary Day 1 | Qiyun Town Night Tour (focus on folk night scenery) Arrive and check into Baiyue Hotel → Immerse yourself in ancient-style interactive activities on Xiaoyao Street, play with NPCs and exchange for silver notes → Enjoy the hairpin flower dance performance in the evening → 18:00 Catch the Sichuan Opera Face-Changing and Intangible Cultural Heritage "Fire Burning the Sky" performance at Fuhai Stage → 19:00 Yuehua Lawn Outdoor Concert → 19:30 Watch Datihua (Iron Flower Splashing), Tiannv Sanhua (Celestial Maidens Scattering Flowers) Intangible Cultural Heritage + limited fireworks show at the Visitor Center (fireworks and Golden Dragon Dance are only available on Fridays and Saturdays) Day 2 | Mountain Hiking Grand Loop (approx. 5h total, cable car up and down saves effort) Ascend via Yuehua Cableway → Wangxian Tower → Shouzi Rock → Yitianmen (First Gate) → Zhenxian Cave Mansion → Ertianmen (Second Gate) → Santianmen (Third Gate) → Yuehua Tianjie (Yuehua Sky Street) → Taisu Palace (facing the distant view of Xianglu Peak) → Xiaohutian (Small Gourd Heaven) → Yuxu Palace → Ziyun Pass → Fang La Cave → Fang La Village → Danxia Corridor → Dongtian Fudi (Blessed Land of Caves) → Descend via Yuehua Cableway III. Must-Visit Photo Spots 1. Zhenxian Cave Mansion: Covered with historical cliff carvings "Heavenly Opening Divine Beauty," a core check-in spot from "Jian Lai," dense with ancient Taoist relics. 2. Yuehua Tianjie (Yuehua Sky Street): A Huizhou-style ancient village suspended on a cliffside. After rain, clouds and mist entwine the village, creating an ethereal atmosphere. 3. Taisu Palace + Xianglu Peak: The core main Taoist temple of Qiyun Mountain, with its gate directly facing Xianglu Peak, offering an excellent panoramic view. 4. Xiaohutian (Small Gourd Heaven): The scenic area's iconic hollowed-out gourd-shaped stone archway. Ancient dinosaur footprint fossils are preserved on the top of the grotto. 5. Yuxu Palace: A suspended Taoist temple embedded in the cliff face, housing a stele personally inscribed by Tang Bohu. 6. Fang La Village: Steep mountain ladders combined with stone houses on the mountaintop, full of wild mountain ambiance. IV. Practical Tips 1. Ticket Discounts: From June 10th to August 31st, current high school and college graduates (including junior college and above) can enjoy free admission to the scenic area with valid identification. 2. Cableway Hours: Yuehua Cableway operates from 8:00-17:00. Hours may vary slightly on holidays, so be sure to manage your time for descent to avoid missing the last cable car. 3. Alternative Transportation: If you don't want to take the cable car, you can choose the scenic area's shuttle bus, which runs between the Visitor Center and Dengfeng Bridge, offering better value for money. 4. Best Time to Visit: Hike after rain when the sky clears. The mountain mist is densest then, providing the best views and photo opportunities.

🏔️ This Taoist mountain with its own fairy aura is way too low-key! When it comes to Anhui tourism, the first thing everyone thinks of is Huangshan, right? But just 40 kilometers north of Huangshan lies a seriously underrated Taoist mountain—Qiyun Mountain! 👀 Did you know? In ancient times, this place was as famous as Huangshan and was called "Baiyue"! It’s also one of the Four Great Taoist Mountains❗ 【A niche but extraordinary fairyland experience】✨ 📍Perfect location: North borders Huangshan and Xidi & Hongcun Villages South neighbors Wuyuan, China’s most beautiful countryside East adjacent to Huizhou Ancient City 🚗 Recommended to drive or take a taxi~ "Baiyue is full of spiritual essence, fairy cliffs ferry wild fools. The world does not know me, I hold the heavens myself." This poem hits the mark perfectly! After the rain clears, standing on the summit looking afar, clouds swirl around, Huizhou-style architecture peeks through—pure fairy vibes! ☁️ Here you’ll find: ✅ Strange peaks and bizarre rocks ✅ Secluded caves and pools ✅ National key cultural relics of cliff inscriptions ✅ Spectacular Danxia landforms ✅ Huizhou-style buildings on cliffs ✅ A landscape painting-like fairyland... 【2 Days 1 Night Cultivation Guide】📝 Day 1️⃣: 🏨 Recommended stay: Yuehua Resort Hotel at the foot of the mountain 🚣‍♀️ Afternoon: Tour Hengjiang / Climb Dengfeng Bridge 🌃 Evening: Night tour of Qiyun Town (Fish Lantern Dance, Iron Flower Show, Fireworks Show—super stunning!) Winter snow is even more magical! Snow hangs on the trees, the whole mountain is wrapped in silver, and the winding mountain road in the distance looks like a giant dragon slithering through the hills.

UNLUCKY GIFTS IN CHINA UNLUCKY GIFTS IN CHINA I used to believe it’s the thought that counts when it comes to gifting. But in China, even a gorgeous, expensive item can come across as an insult, a wish for separation, or a hint at a funeral. The reason often lies not in the gift itself, but in how its name sounds. 🕰 Clock The expression "to give a clock" — 送钟, sòng zhōng — sounds almost identical to 送终, sòng zhōng: "to bid farewell to someone on their final journey." It's especially offensive to give a clock to an elderly person: the gift might be taken as a grim reminder that their time is running out. This rule is a bit more flexible when it comes to wristwatches, but unless you're absolutely sure, I wouldn't risk it. ☂️ Umbrella The word for umbrella in Chinese is 伞, sǎn. It sounds very similar to 散, sàn — "to separate" or "to part ways." Because of this, gifting an umbrella to a loved one or friend can carry the hidden message: "May our paths diverge." Shielding someone from the rain is fine, but formally presenting an umbrella as a gift is a highly questionable idea. 🍐 Pear The word for pear is 梨, lí, while separation is 离, lí. The phrase "to share a pear" — 分梨, fēn lí — is particularly symbolic, as it sounds exactly like 分离, fēn lí — "to part." For this reason, I’d avoid giving pears to a couple, relatives, or someone who is ill. 👞 Shoes The word 鞋, xié sounds just like 邪, xié — "evil" or "bad luck." Furthermore, giving shoes can be interpreted as wishing for the person to "walk away" from your life. ✂️ Knives and Scissors Sharp objects symbolically "sever" friendships or relationships. Even a premium designer knife isn't the best choice for a gift unless it’s been agreed upon beforehand. ✅ WHAT I WOULD CHOOSE INSTEAD It's much safer to gift high-quality Chinese tea, sweets, a beautiful fruit basket (without pears), paired items, or a gift wrapped in red or gold packaging. If you’ve already bought a clock, the recipient can sometimes hand you a symbolic coin. This turns the gift into a "purchase," neutralizing the bad omen. In China, a gift is "listened to" first — and looked at second. Would you be offended if someone gave you a clock? travel trip

Huangshan 3-day, 2-night trip | Granite peak forest secret realm · Original Huizhou ancient villages · Valley stream trekking and summer escape guide (July–September) This itinerary avoids the peak crowds at Welcoming Guest Pine and Bright Summit, and skips the commercialized ancient villages of Hongcun and Xidi. Huangshan is not just about its main peaks; it boasts suspended cloud villages, pristine valley pools, deep mountain earthen building villages, old Huizhou wood carving houses, and the Xin'an River ecological wetlands. From July to September, mountain temperatures are 8℃ lower than the foot of the mountain, valleys have abundant streams, and post-rain cloud seas frequently appear on the peaks. The focus is on reverse peak-avoidance hiking, exploring lesser-known ancient villages, wading in mountain streams to cool off, and visiting intangible cultural heritage sites. This route is completely different from all other mountain and ancient town destinations. I. Explanation of travel period (July–September) From July to August, the mountainous areas receive abundant rainfall, making the water in Emerald Valley the clearest, and the forests provide shade all day. There are often short afternoon showers, and after the rain stops, the probability of cloud seas appearing in the West Sea Grand Canyon is extremely high. In September, the air is clearer, and the number of mountain visitors significantly decreases. Hiking is only scheduled for early morning departures, with midday spent avoiding strong sun in caves, ancient ancestral halls, and dense valley forests. The altitude difference in the mountains is significant, and temperatures drop sharply at night on the summit, with high humidity. Essential packing list: High-SPF sunscreen, raincoat (no umbrellas), non-slip hiking shoes, trekking poles, strong mosquito repellent, windproof light jacket, motion sickness medication, small amount of cash, ID card. II. Key preparations before travel (reservations + transportation + accommodation) 🎫 Tickets and reservations Huangshan Scenic Area entrance ticket is CNY 190, valid for re-entry within three days. West Sea cable car is CNY 100 one way, and cable car tickets are purchased separately. Emerald Valley is CNY 60, a secret realm of colorful pools and bamboo forests in the valley. Muliheng Ancient Village has no entrance fee, and the observation deck is free. Nanping Ancient Village is CNY 38, a maze of ancient alleys and Huizhou ancestral halls. Xixinan Maple Poplar Forest is free for the entire area. Huizhou Museum is free with WeChat official account reservation, closed on Mondays. Jiulong Waterfall is CNY 70, Huangshan's largest tiered waterfall. 🚗 Transportation High-speed rail to Huangshan North Station is the most convenient. Buses from Tangkou Transfer Center uniformly enter the mountain; private cars cannot reach the mountain gate directly. For ancient villages like Muliheng and Nanping, carpooling with four people is most suitable. Tips to avoid pitfalls: Refuse low-price Huizhou one-day shopping tours from the station. Do not follow unofficial guides on unapproved trails when hiking. Do not drive on unnamed dirt roads in mountainous areas during flood season. 🏨 Accommodation selection Zhaixi area of Tangkou Town (first choice): CNY 180–290, closest to the mountain transfer, dense with local restaurants, ample supplies, no need for early long-distance travel. Around Bishan Village, Yixian County (cultural preference): CNY 170–270, artistic ancient village, quiet and leisurely, very convenient for visiting surrounding lesser-known villages. Tips to avoid pitfalls: Do not blindly book mountain-top hotels; they are extremely overpriced and have rudimentary living facilities. Deep mountain ancient village guesthouses are damp during the rainy season, and power and water supply can be unstable. III. 3-day, 2-night itinerary (mountain and ancient village dual-line, completely new with no overlap) Day 1 Huizhou Museum → Xixinan Maple Poplar Forest → Emerald Valley stream trekking 9:00 Indoor visit to the museum, appreciate the history of Huizhou merchants and the three carvings of Huizhou, constant temperature venue isolates the stuffiness. 14:00 Stroll through the thousand-year-old maple poplar forest in Xixinan, Fengle River stream flows through the forest, flat ground shade provides natural summer escape. 16:30 Enter Emerald Valley, walk along the wooden boardwalk by the stream, over a hundred emerald pools are scattered, wade in shallow waters to relax. Accommodation: Tangkou hotel Day 2 Huangshan back mountain reverse hike → West Sea Grand Canyon → Danxia Peak sunset 6:30 Take the Yun'gu cable car up the back mountain, first visit Shixin Peak and Brush Pen Peak, avoiding the mainstream tourist group route. 12:00 Simple meal and rest at Bai'e Villa, avoiding the strong midday sun. 15:00 Enter the West Sea Grand Canyon, take the popular small train deep into the valley, suspended walkways overlook thousands of peaks and valleys. 18:20 Wait for the sunset at the lesser-known observation deck on Danxia Peak, with an open view and no crowds blocking. Accommodation: Tangkou hotel (do not stay on the summit, descend the same day) Day 3 Nanping Ancient Village → Muliheng Cloud Village → Purchase souvenirs and return 9:00 Enter Nanping Ancient Village, seventy-two ancient alleys like a maze, well-preserved Ming and Qing ancestral halls, almost no shops. 13:30 Head to Muliheng, hike up the mountain to reach the suspended ancient village, three sides of cliffs overlook the entire mountain range and cloud sea. 15:30 Purchase Maofeng tea and Huizhou pastries in the city, pack luggage and head to the station for return journey. IV. Authentic food recommendations (unique to Huizhou, not overlapping with other cities in Southern Anhui) Huangshan stone frog stew: Stone frogs from deep mountain streams, stewed with medicinal herbs, wild specialty, average CNY 52 per person. Cured meat with bamboo shoots: Aged Huizhou cured meat, steamed with dried bamboo shoots, oily but not greasy, average CNY 46 per person. Kudzu root dumplings: Kudzu root powder wrapped around meat filling, braised, soft and mellow, Huizhou cuisine specialty, average CNY 28 per person. Pickled fresh stew: Spring bamboo shoots and cured meat slow-cooked over low heat, clear and sweet soup, a must-eat for farmers in summer, average CNY 48 per person. Corn fritters: Old-fashioned snack made from fried corn, crispy and additive-free, street food average CNY 8 per person. Huizhou tofu paste: Tofu stir-fried with mushrooms and dried shrimp, light and fresh, average CNY 22 per person. V. Exclusive tips to avoid pitfalls (no overlap with other guides) 1. Mountain and valley activities ❌ Hiking at midday; granite mountains absorb heat intensely, early morning ascent is most comfortable. Do not climb over railings in West Sea Grand Canyon. ❌ Do not privately enter deep pools in Emerald Valley; underwater gravel is slippery. Only use official wooden boardwalks. ❌ Do not approach cliff edges on the back mountain of Muliheng; the mountain has no protection, and strong winds can be extremely dangerous. 2. Mountain area transportation ❌ Driving on mountain roads to high mountain ancient villages in the rain; there are many curves and wet surfaces. Carpooling in an SUV is more stable. ❌ All Huangshan cable cars have the longest queues in the morning during peak season. Try to enter the mountain early to avoid tourist groups. 3. Dining and consumption ❌ Huizhou restaurants along scenic area streets are often overpriced. Old shops in Tangkou and Bishan residential areas offer generous portions and transparent prices. ❌ Most "wild" mountain products sold by the roadside are artificially cultivated. It is more reliable to purchase tea and dried goods from regular markets. ❌ Huizhou cuisine tends to be salty and oily. Be sure to inform the restaurant in advance if you prefer lighter flavors. 4. Customs and travel details ❌ When photographing ancient village residents or inside ancestral halls, you must obtain permission before taking photos. Loud noise is prohibited inside ancestral halls. ❌ Valleys and forests have a large number of mosquitoes. You must spray mosquito repellent before entering the mountains. ❌ Mountain weather changes rapidly. Only bring a raincoat for hiking; strong winds in the valley can easily damage umbrellas. VI. Overall summary From July to September, Huangshan is more than just the most spectacular mountain under heaven. It doesn't have the rugged canyons of Zhangjiajie, nor the homogenization of Jiangnan ancient towns. On one side are peak forests and canyons formed by billions of years of granite, with cloud seas surging after rain like a fairyland. On the other side are non-commercialized Huizhou ancient villages hidden in the wilderness, with dense forests and valleys forming a unique summer escape in East China. In the morning, understand the thousand-year-old Huizhou merchant culture in the museum. In the afternoon, delve into pristine valleys to escape the summer heat. In the evening, wait for the sunset over the mountains from the summit. Enjoy authentic Huizhou farm dishes for three meals. By hiking in reverse to avoid crowds, respecting ancient village customs, and staying away from various product promotions, you can see the most authentic appearance of Huangshan's landscapes and Huizhou's local life.

As one of China's Four Sacred Taoist Mountains, the average summer temperature here is only 23℃, and the probability of seeing a sea of clouds is as high as 90%. Most importantly, it's less crowded, beautiful, and offers excellent value for money. Keep this ultimate guide handy, and I'll show you how to explore this 'First Mountain of Jiangnan' in two days and one night! 🏔️ Why Qiyun Mountain? · Natural Air Conditioner: While cities are sweltering, the mountain offers cool breezes and lush greenery, instantly soothing summer's heat and irritation. · High Probability of Cloud Seas: For over 200 days a year, it's shrouded in a sea of clouds. On clear mornings after rain, the clouds cascade like waterfalls, and any casual shot captures the 'Qiyun Fairyland'. · Life on the Cliffs: The 'Yuehua Heavenly Street,' embedded in the cliffs, is an ancient Huizhou-style village where Taoist priests and villagers coexist. White walls and dark tiles appear and disappear in the mist, as if you've stumbled into a celestial market. · Ultimate Night Experience: At Qiyun Town below the mountain, you can watch free performances of iron flower splashing, fire pots, fish lantern parades, and the Hengjiang Golden Dragon Dance, offering a full dose of Chinese romance. 🗺️ 2-Day, 1-Night Ultimate Itinerary (Tried & Tested, Not Tiring) Day 1: Arrival → Night of Intangible Cultural Heritage Festivities at the Foot of the Mountain · Afternoon: Take the high-speed train to [Huangshan North Station] or [Yixian East Station], then take a taxi/shared ride for about 30 minutes directly to the Visitor Center. Recommended accommodation: Qiyunshan Xiangfurui / Baiyue Resort Hotel (close to the cable car, convenient for climbing the next day). · Evening: Explore Qiyun Town (Shanshui Street), immerse yourself in the "Carefree Huizhou Market," and interact with NPCs to complete challenges. · Night: Don't rush off! This is the highlight of Qiyun Mountain. Watch the Hengjiang Golden Dragon Dance (on Fridays and Saturdays), intangible cultural heritage iron flower splashing, fire pot performances, and fish lantern parades. This isn't just a show; it's the ultimate Eastern romance! Day 2: Cable Car Up the Mountain → Essential Hike → Departure · Morning: Take the Yuehua Cable Car up the mountain (saves time and effort, the best parts are yet to come). Route: Wangxian Tower (overlook the S-bend of Hengjiang River) → Mengzhen Bridge (mist micro-landscape, great for cooling off and photos) → Shouzi Rock (touch it for good fortune) → Zhenxian Cave (see Zhu Xi's inscription "Heaven Opens Divine Beauty") → Yuehua Heavenly Street (have lunch here, try Huizhou farmhouse dishes). · Afternoon: Taisu Palace (red walls with Danxia landform, absolutely stunning) → Xiaohutian (look for dinosaur footprint fossils on the cave ceiling, stand at the cave entrance for a backlit silhouette photo to look like an "immortal") → Yuxu Palace (a red Taoist temple embedded in the cliff, Tang Bohu's authentic stele inscription is here). · Advanced Challenge: For those with good stamina, head to Fangla Village (cloud ladder to heaven, drone shots are divine) and the Danxia Mysterious Corridor. · Return: Take the cable car down the mountain, ending your "immortal" vacation. 📸 Must-Visit Photo Spots 1. Yuxu Palace Sunset: The vermilion Taoist temple embedded in the cliff, bathed in golden light at sunset, is ancient and breathtaking. 2. Panoramic View of Yuehua Heavenly Street: In the early morning from the observation deck or via drone, the ancient village shrouded in mist looks ethereal. 3. Zhenxian Cave: Cliffside dripping spring, capture an ink-wash painting effect after rain. 4. Xiaohutian Silhouette: The gourd-shaped cave entrance, take a backlit "flying immortal" pose with the Danxia landform and sea of clouds in the background. 💡 Practical Tips & Avoidance · Ticket Policy: Gate price 68 RMB, cable car one-way 60 RMB/round-trip 95 RMB. From June 10th to August 31st, 2026, high school and college graduates can exchange their admission tickets for a free entrance ticket! · Transportation: Prioritize taking the cable car up the mountain (to conserve energy); consider walking down (about 1 hour). · Avoid Scams: For meals on Yuehua Street, choose restaurants with clearly marked prices; buy cable car tickets from the official website, refuse "internal tickets" from scalpers. · Attire: Non-slip athletic shoes are a must! Stone steps can be slippery after rain. Wear light-colored clothing or Hanfu, which perfectly complements the immortal mountain. Qiyun Mountain may not be tall, but it pierces the clouds. Here, time slows down, and your heart feels lighter. If you're tired of the 996 grind, why not come here, let your feet measure the ancient paths, let your breath chase the sea of clouds, and live like a carefree immortal for a while? 🌿

// Conclusion first // The best place to stay for a night in Huangshan is not on the mountain. It’s at the foot of the mountain. To be precise, in the forest at the foot of Qiyun Mountain. · — I stayed one night at the Free Home Treehouse World in Qiyun Mountain. The next morning when I woke up, a squirrel was sitting on the railing outside the window, nibbling on a pine cone. It stared at me for three seconds, then suddenly dashed away. · — "East Sea Cableway + Back Mountain Secret Spot One-Day Tour" Let’s talk about the mountain first. If you, like me, have been to Huangshan several times and want to try something different this time, try this route: Enter from the East Gate → East Sea Cableway (newly opened on June 11) → Bai’e Ridge → Shixin Peak → Lion Peak → Monkey Watching the Sea The East Sea Cableway costs 125 RMB one way and follows the new route on the lower half of the Yungu Cableway. During the eight-minute ride, below you is untouched primeval forest, and occasionally you can see mountain streams weaving through the trees. The section from Shixin Peak to Lion Peak has the highest density of Huangshan pines. Walking on the stone path, the pine branches above form a natural dome, with light filtering through the gaps and casting patches on the stones. The cool scent of pine needles mixed with post-rain earth refreshes your lungs with every deep breath. The Monkey Watching the Sea viewing platform has the highest chance of sea of clouds before 10 a.m. When I last went, I caught it—the entire sea of clouds spread beneath my feet, with a few mountain peaks poking through, looking just like a group of monkeys squatting on the sea. · — "Heading straight to Qiyun Mountain after descending" After exiting Huangshan South Gate, it’s about a 40-minute drive to Qiyun Mountain. Qiyun Mountain is one of the four famous Taoist mountains but is far less known than Huangshan, so the tourists are negligible. The Free Home Treehouse World at the foot of the mountain is hidden in 500 acres of virgin forest. Private cars park outside, and a butler drives you in with an electric cart. On the way, you pass a small creek with water so clear you can see the moss patterns on the stones. The air carries an indescribable sweet scent, which the butler later said is a mix of gardenia and pine. · — "What’s it like staying in a treehouse?" I stayed in the "Building Blocks" themed treehouse, a two-story detached unit. The first floor has a living room and bathtub, the second floor is the bedroom. One entire wall is floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out onto dense pine forest. At night, with all the lights off, moonlight filters through the trees, casting shadows that sway on the walls, like living in the heart of the forest. The bedding is very comfortable, with high-thread-count cotton texture. The butler turns on the air conditioning before you arrive, so the temperature is just right when you enter. They also have a camp where you can ride horses, shoot arrows, and kayak. But honestly, I didn’t go anywhere—I just spent the afternoon watching clouds from the treehouse terrace. Qiyun Mountain has sea of clouds over 200 days a year, and I was lucky that day; fog started rising around 4 p.m., and the whole forest looked like it was soaked in milk. · — "Hongcun Sunset | An Unconventional Suggestion" Most people go to Hongcun in the morning to shoot the morning mist. But I found the most beautiful time in Hongcun is between 5 and 6 p.m. The tour groups have left, the bamboo rafts on South Lake have closed, and the lanterns by Moon Pond start to light up. The water reflects the silhouette of the horse-head walls, elderly people slowly walk through the alleys, and the sound of slippers on the bluestone echoes. At this time, Hongcun feels alive. During the day, Hongcun is for tourists; in the evening, it’s for yourself. It’s about a 20-minute drive from the treehouse to Hongcun. · — "2026 Practical Information Update" · Huangshan ticket: 190 RMB, valid for 3 days, must be booked 1 day in advance · Yuping Cableway: 90 RMB one way, Yungu Cableway: 80 RMB one way · East Sea Cableway peak season: 125 RMB one way (operating from June 11) · West Sea Grand Canyon cable car: 100 RMB one way · Free Home Qiyun Mountain is about 20 km from Huangshan North Station, self-driving is most convenient Accommodation 🏨 Banyan Tree Huangshan A luxurious Hui-style resort near Hongcun, SPA uses natural plant essential oils, perfect for a full-body relaxation after descending the mountain, villas open to pastoral fields and distant mountains 🏨 Huangshan Yurun Hanyuelou Hotel 99 independent villas, extremely private, some with private hot spring pools, soak in the courtyard while stargazing, the most luxurious choice in Huangshan city 🏨 Free Home Qiyun Mountain · Treehouse World 62 themed treehouses in 500 acres of forest, designed by a German master, butler shuttle service, truly living in the trees, woken up by birds in the morning 🏨 Huangshan Lotus Mountain Hot Spring Resort Hotel Located in Tangkou Town at the South Gate, just a short walk after descending, hot spring pools face the valley, suitable for those planning to continue up the mountain for sunrise the next day

⛰️ Xihai Grand Canyon is the true essence of Huangshan Stop just climbing the main peak of Huangshan! "After Huangshan, no need to look at other mountains; after Xihai, no need to look at Huangshan." Xihai Grand Canyon is the most stunning secret spot in Huangshan, missed by 90% of first-time visitors. I recommend entering from the North Gate, it really saves time and effort! Take the shuttle bus + Taiping Cableway directly to Danxia Station, turn right to the canyon entrance, then at the fork go left, and follow the cliffside plank road. The entire route offers the best views. · -- 🌄 Perfect one-day tour route Enter from the North Gate, take the Taiping Cableway up the mountain directly to the Xihai Grand Canyon entrance, then walk the first and second loops. This section is the absolute highlight. Sheer cliffs, strange pines and rocks, the Jiaolongtan plank road hanging over the cliff—every photo looks like a cliffside adventure movie scene. Descend all the way to the valley bottom, then take the popular ground rail mini train, a 3-minute ride soaring into the clouds, 892 meters high overlooking the entire canyon. The mist is right at your fingertips, truly healing. This mini train is a must-ride for the full experience. If you have good stamina, you can get up early the next day to watch the sunrise at Bright Summit Peak. The sea of clouds surges, golden light spreads over the peaks, it really feels like a fairyland. On the way, check out Feilai Stone, a filming location for Dream of the Red Chamber, a giant rock hanging on the cliff edge, a masterpiece of nature. · -- 📝 Important tips to avoid pitfalls Be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes! The paths in Huangshan are really slippery, especially on rainy days. Bring trekking poles to protect your knees; going downhill is really hard on the knees. During peak season, cableway and mini train tickets must be booked 3 days in advance, otherwise you really can’t get them. It’s best to start before 7 AM to avoid crowds and secure the best photo spots. Enjoy azaleas in spring, red leaves in autumn, and rime ice in winter. Xihai Grand Canyon is a fairyland all year round, each season offers a different kind of beauty. · -- 💡 Local hidden tips Really don’t enter from the South Gate! The South Gate is too crowded, queues can last for hours. The North Gate has fewer people, no queues for the cableway, and goes straight to Xihai Grand Canyon. It’s way better. Always sit on the right side of the ground rail mini train for the best views and photos. Walk the first loop on the right side, the second loop on the left side—this is the best route summarized by experienced travelers for the best scenery. If your stamina is average, just explore Xihai Grand Canyon; this is the essence of Huangshan. The main peak is always crowded and not that interesting. · -- Accommodation 🏨Yunji · Shilin Cliff House At the foot of Lion Peak in Huangshan Beihai Scenic Area, a healing space on the cliff with a 360-degree panoramic balcony to enjoy stunning sunsets 🏨Yunji · Dawn Light Lane At 1630 meters altitude in Huangshan Beihai Scenic Area, backed by Lion Peak, the best spot to watch the Huangshan sunrise and greet the dawn 🏨Mosu | Hongcun Cottage · Wild Luxury Designer Vacation Homestay (Huangshan Flagship Store) On the golden axis between Huangshan and Hongcun, container industrial style blended with Huizhou aesthetics, surrounded by century-old trees and Ming Dynasty covered bridges 🏨Youtan Valley · Wild Luxury Vacation Homestay (Huizhou Chengkan Town Store) A 30-acre private luxury garden, a homestay grown in a small peach blossom land, where mountains, streams, and people blend perfectly with nature · --

📖 Just got back from Huangshan, and traveling this way following the Chinese textbook is super effortless! Finally took the kids to turn the textbook stories "Climbing Tiandu Peak" and "Huangshan’s Strange Rocks" into reality! Just returned, and my mind is still filled with the rolling sea of clouds and the verdant pines. Quickly putting together this "Travel Huangshan with the Textbook" parent-child study guide, a time-saving and easy one-day tour route that’s not tiring for kids and also educational. 📖 Step 1: Prepare before entering the mountain! Warm up with textbook scenes 🚝 Transportation: Take the high-speed train to Huangshan North Station, then take the tourist shuttle bus for 1 hour to the South Gate Transfer Center of Huangshan Scenic Area 🚡 Take the Yungu Cableway up from the back mountain and the Yuping Cableway down from the front mountain 🏔️ Must bring: trekking poles (sold at the train station and mountain base), non-slip sports shoes, light jacket (10°C at the summit), water, snacks 📚 Warm-up interaction: Before departure, take out "Climbing Tiandu Peak" from the textbook and ask the kids, "How did the old man and little sister encourage each other to climb Tiandu Peak?" Travel with this question in mind and look for answers along the way. 🗺️ Step 2: Core check-in! Corresponding textbook real scenes ⛅ One-day tour route ➡️ Yungu Cableway → Bai’e Ridge → Shixin Peak → Dream Brush Blossoms → Beihai Square → Monkey Watching the Sea → Xihai Restaurant → Paiyun Pavilion → Flying Rock → Bright Summit → Aoyu Peak → One Line Sky → Welcoming Pine → Yuping Cableway ‼️ Not recommended to take the Hundred-Step Cloud Ladder with kids; the One Line Sky route is safer and easier. ✏️ Dream Brush Blossoms: It really looks like the tip of an upside-down brush! Tell the kids the story of "Li Bai throwing his brush," which leaves a deep impression on them. 👉 Beihai Square: There is a textbook-shaped photo spot here where kids can stand inside the hollow "textbook frame." Nearby are educational displays and NPC interactions. If you don’t see the sea of clouds that day, the cloud sea simulator here can artificially create flowing clouds—it's amazing! 🐒 Monkey Watching the Sea: The huge rock on Lion Peak really looks like a monkey squatting and watching the sea! On good days, you can even see real monkeys coming out to forage, which is very interesting and exciting for kids. 🌲 Welcoming Pine: The textbook installation appears again here. The textbook page open is exactly "Climbing Tiandu Peak," making for a perfect real-life comparison and great photos. Tell the kids the story of the Welcoming Pine. 📝 Tips for traveling with kids 1. Go early on holidays to avoid cableway queues 2. If you want to climb Tiandu Peak, it’s best to stay overnight; otherwise, it’s too rushed 3. UV rays are strong on sunny days, so remember sun protection 4. Want to take the kids out during the New Year's holiday but worry about crowds and tiring mountain climbs? On the weekend, I took my daughter Yiyi 👧 to Qiyun Mountain at the foot of Huangshan. We unexpectedly discovered this "fairyland" perfect for strolling with kids. · 🥾 This place truly deserves its title as the "Unparalleled Scenic Spot Under Heaven" bestowed by Emperor Qianlong. With an elevation of only 585 meters, it’s especially family-friendly. We chose to take the cable car up and down + hike the middle loop trail, walking and resting over 4 hours, not tiring at all. If lucky, you might even encounter a drifting sea of clouds. My daughter kept exclaiming, "Mom, are we in heaven?" · 📝 Concise 2-day 1-night family itinerary: Day 1️⃣: Check into hotel → Immersive interaction on Xiaoyao Street (starting in the afternoon) → Night tour with intangible cultural heritage performances (Iron Flower, Fish Lantern, Fireworks) Day 2️⃣: Cable car up the mountain → Hike the middle loop trail (focus on Yuehua Tianjie, Yuxu Palace, Xiaohutian, Fanglazhai) → Cable car down → Return trip · 🏔️ Top three spots on the mountain with rich cultural heritage: 1️⃣ Yuehua Tianjie · Ancient cliffside village This is a true "ancient Taoist village on the cliff," with bluestone paths, white walls, and black tiles, where everyday life and fairy aura coexist. Walking with kids through the alleys feels like stepping into a martial arts world. 2️⃣ Yuxu Palace · Red Taoist temple embedded under the Danxia cliff The most stunning spot! The red-walled temple is fully embedded beneath the red Danxia cliff, creating a strong visual impact. It houses the only surviving stele inscription by Tang Bohu, the "Zixiao Palace Xuan Emperor Stele," with high cultural value. I told my daughter the history, and she was deeply fascinated. 3️⃣ Fanglazhai · Climb high for a panoramic view of the mountains Requires a short climb on a plank path, but the view is very open, overlooking the entire Danxia landform. This was a stronghold of the Song Dynasty’s Fang La uprising. · 💃 Xiaoyao Street at the foot of the mountain transforms into a large immersive theater after 3 PM, with NPCs everywhere and strong interactive experiences: ✅ Pawnshop auction At the Happy Alley pawnshop, my daughter became a "little shopkeeper," learning to identify "treasures" and had a blast. ✅ Live blessing A randomly encountered NPC Taoist priest gave my daughter a lucky bag, symbolizing good fortune, which she treasured. ✅ Nanshan rock-paper-scissors A simple and fun interaction with small prizes for winning; my daughter played several rounds. · 🎇 Night tour highlight · Intangible cultural heritage performances for a stunning finale ✅ Iron Flower & Fire Pot Shaking (Tourist Center): Sparks flying everywhere, the scene was fiery and thrilling; my daughter watched without blinking. ✅ Fish Lantern Parade (Fuhai area): Dreamy and romantic, the procession moved slowly, and we followed for a while, fully immersed in the atmosphere. ✅ Hengjiang Fireworks Show: Watch from Dengfeng Bridge or riverside, with brilliant fireworks reflecting on the river, a perfect end to the day. · ⚠️ Family travel tips: · There are some steps on the mountain, so be sure to wear non-slip, comfortable shoes. · Temple etiquette: Instead of the "palms together" gesture, bowing is appropriate.

The palace lanterns all over the street look like crushed moonlight, tangled on the flying eaves and corners, making your eyes dizzy 🌕 That colorful coiled dragon pillar is absolutely stunning—when the lights wrap around the dragon’s body and spin, it feels like you can hear the dragon’s roar any second! The best part is the Iron Flower show! The moment the golden sparks are thrown into the sky, the whole crowd shouts “Wow”—this isn’t fireworks, it’s clearly the “sky full of flowing fire” from a martial arts novel coming to life 🔥 Standing on the lantern-filled bridge watching, even the shadows are wrapped in the spirit of the Jianghu~ Oh, and don’t miss that blingbling crystal corridor bridge! When the lights hit it, it feels like you’re walking on the Milky Way, and every snap looks like a behind-the-scenes shot from a fantasy drama 📸 🔥 Personally tested “Best Viewing Spots for the Iron Flower” (highly recommend saving) 1. Core C-spot: The stone steps grandstand directly opposite the Iron Flower stage So close! You can clearly see the master’s strength in throwing the molten iron, the sparks explode right above your head, the visual impact is maxed out (just don’t stand too far forward, there will be spark fragments). 2. Atmosphere spot: Middle of the lantern corridor bridge Iron Flower + palace lanterns + water reflections triple buff, photos come out with a “fantasy filter,” especially perfect for sisters wearing Hanfu to take full-body shots! 3. Niche angle: Second-floor platform next to the coiled dragon pillar You can capture the Iron Flower, the dragon pillar lights, and the park buildings all at once, with super rich composition layers, and fewer people than the grandstand~
