The most livable city in the world, the poetry and distance that never sleeps at dusk—Zurich
Zurich, the most glittering and intoxicating place in Europe. 🇨🇭 Departing from Basel, Switzerland, it only takes an hour's drive to reach Zurich, the most glittering and intoxicating city in Europe. Zurich, Switzerland, is the place with the highest consumption and income in the whole of Europe. Countless bankers, stars, and business tycoons lurk here, and the entire city seems to be imbued with an intoxicating atmosphere of luxury.
-
Must-visit 1⃣️
Uetliberg Mountain, after arriving at Zurich's main train station, transfer to platform 22 and take the S10 line to the final stop to reach the top of the mountain. Along with the Swiss who come here for a hike with their families, walk along the mountain path for about ten to twenty minutes, then climb the 30-meter-high steel observation tower for an incredibly open view. The entire Zurich city area and Lake Zurich are clearly visible, and even the magnificent peaks of the Alps can be seen in the distance.
-
Must-visit 2⃣️
Zurich's main train station, besides being a financial and business center, also has a rich artistic atmosphere. When we arrived, the huge hall of Zurich's main train station was being set up for an art exhibition. As a major Swiss train station, it is bustling with people, yet it is orderly. Moreover, the quietness and cleanliness here are second to none in European train stations, a world apart from the dirty and chaotic Gare de Lyon in Paris, France—Switzerland is indeed one of the most developed countries in Europe.
-
Must-visit 3⃣️
Limmat River and Lake Zurich. Not far from the train station is the Limmat River—the mother river of Zurich that flows out from the north end of Lake Zurich, spanning the city center of Zurich. The heart of European finance—Zurich's essence is almost concentrated on both banks of the river, with iconic landmarks such as the St. Peter's Church 🕍 with its tall spire and the Fraumünster located along the Limmat River.

Welcome to Zurich!
Thousands of trees, spring light in the streets and alleys! To enjoy the flowers in Zurich, you don't need to drive to the suburbs. Many urban roads and tram tracks in the center of Zurich are planted with flowering trees. It might be cherry blossoms, or larger magnolias. Walking on the streets is like walking in a sea of flowers. As soon as you step onto the streets of Zurich, thousands of cherry blossoms sway and come into view.
Zurich is located north of the Alps, at the southwestern end of Lake Zurich, at the mouth of the Limmat River and Lake Zurich. Since the Middle Ages, Zurich has been the center of the silk industry north of the Alps. From the 13th to the 15th century, Zurich was famous for its silk in Europe. After the 16th century, Zurich became the core city of the European fashion industry. This largest city in the Swiss Confederation is not only the financial center of Switzerland but also an important cultural center in Europe.
The Sechseläuten is Zurich's spring festival, usually held on the third Monday of April each year. Guilds organize traditional costume parades, and then a bonfire several meters high is lit in Bellevue Square, with a snowman whose head contains explosives on top. People calculate the time from the lighting of the bonfire to the explosion of the snowman's head to declare the end of winter and predict whether the next year will have a good summer.
Zurich people are known for their love of sweets, so there are many kinds of desserts. The local famous sweet is traditional Swiss cheese. Other specialties include instant chicken, cashew juice, vegetable cakes, hot and cold salads, sour yogurt, chocolate candies, and pastries.
Bahnhofstrasse in the old town is as famous as Fifth Avenue in New York, adjacent to the old Zurich train station. This street gathers major Swiss banks and is filled with luxury brands from all over the world. Department stores, high-end fashion stores, watch shops, and jewelry stores line both sides of the street.
This elegant city attracts people, and the Zurich Cathedral and Lake Zurich are must-see attractions for tourists.
We look forward to everyone joining us on a trip to Zurich!

📍Zurich, Switzerland
Zurich city which is also the largest city in Switzerland is such a one stop destination for sight seeing, shop and dine! Set by the Lake Zurich, Zurich city has such a stunning and breathtaking sight! Some of the popular cathedrals like Grossmunster church, Fraumunster church is easily spotted from afar, and stood beautifully, enhancing the city’s skyline. We were there during winter time, the weather was breezy and cool. Lovely place to spend time walking and strolling around as it’s pretty walkable here in Zurich with nice pathways. There is also a few photo spots with different viewpoints to capture the beauty of Zurich, such a beautiful city to visit!

Swiss National Museum Landesmuseum Zürich
Visiting the Swiss National Museum (Landesmuseum Zürich) is an educational and cultural journey filled with rich and diverse exhibits that showcase the history, culture, and art of Switzerland. I gained a deep understanding of Switzerland's development from ancient to modern times, from the early primitive societies to the urban construction of the Middle Ages, and to the modern technological innovations. The museum displays the important achievements and contributions of Switzerland in various periods. In addition, the museum also has a rich collection of artworks and handicrafts, demonstrating the artistic talent and creativity of the Swiss people. Beyond the exhibits, the museum's presentation methods are also very engaging, with interactive displays and multimedia technology that allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the stories and meanings behind the exhibits. During the visit, I also had the opportunity to participate in some guided tours and workshops, interacting with other visitors, sharing our views and feelings about the exhibits, which added to the fun and richness of the journey. Overall, visiting the Swiss National Museum was a meaningful and rewarding journey that allowed me to better understand the history and culture of Switzerland, while also enriching my knowledge and horizons.

🇨🇭Day 1: SIN - ZRH
I’ve always dreamt of going to Switzerland and I finally did it!
Mustered up enough courage and travel funds to book a long-haul 13 hours direct flight to Zurich with Singapore Airlines, and the only regret I takeaway from this is… THIS TRIP WAS WAY TOO SHORT, and also I learnt that I would very much prefer a layover for long-haul flights. 📝
I chose to stay in Hotel St. Gotthard throughout my time in Switzerland and took day trips out to other places because there’s lots of shopping near the hotel, fast food, restaurants, supermarket… everything is just a few steps away!
Most importantly, the hotel is located just a mere 5mins walk away to Zurich HB (train station) which is extremely convenient since my itinerary consist of taking lots of day trips out!
I was early for check-in so I dropped my luggage off at reception and started my day 1 in Switzerland!
📍Hotel: Hotel St. Gotthard
Bahnhofstrasse 87, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland
S$1800 for 7 nights
There were lots of luxury fashion and jewellery brands around to do some window shopping, nice quaint little cafes but they were closed for mid afternoon break.
Day walking around and finally saw an open cafe, which was crowded but didn’t have much of a choice! Had some pastries and coffee to recharge after the long flight, which cost about 20CHF. 💸
📍Cafe: Boréal Coffee Shop Talacker (ZU)
Talacker 41, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland
Taking day 1 light and easy to familiarise myself around the hotel!

Church with pretty stained glass to see
Grossmuster church is a place one can visit when at Zurich, specifically when planning the day to include Lake Zurich as it is within close proximity.
It is one with free entry, where one can visit and really admire the interior especially stained glass inside the church.
of note, one interesting thing is that it also sells souvenirs like postcards.

Zwinglipl. 7, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland

Church with free exhibit, underground tour
This summer, if you have a trip planned for Zurich, do visit this church.
A simple chuch with stained glass, it may seem but it is a gem inside.
At the basement, you can see the underground structure which was interesting as it had routes, a place usually others charge for admission.
At the upper levels, one can even see exhibits and a clear view of buildings around lake zurich.

Courtyard by Marriott Zurich North
My experience at the Courtyard by Marriott Zurich North was truly exceptional in several aspects.
Firstly, the hotel’s location near the Zurich Oerlikon train station was a major highlight. Being just a short 10-minute ride away from both the airport and the city center, it made my travel plans remarkably convenient. This proximity saved me valuable time and allowed me to explore the city easily, whether I wanted to catch a flight or explore the cultural attractions downtown.
Despite its unassuming exterior, the hotel’s interior was a pleasant surprise. The moment I stepped into the lobby, I could feel the welcoming ambiance. The check-in process was efficient, and the staff were attentive and friendly.
Entering my room, I was delighted to find that it had all the essential features needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, providing a much-needed rest after a long day of travel and exploration. The air conditioning was not only functional but also impressively strong, effectively beating the summer heat and allowing me to relax in a cool and comfortable environment.
What truly impressed me was the hotel’s no-frills concept. While some luxury hotels tend to pile on unnecessary amenities, Courtyard by Marriott Zurich North focused on providing the basics that travelers truly need. This not only made the stay more streamlined but also contributed to competitive pricing, which is always appreciated.
I made use of the comprehensive gym facilities during my stay. The gym was well-equipped with modern exercise equipment, making it easy for me to stick to my fitness routine. This was a valuable addition to my stay, allowing me to stay active even while traveling.
Overall, my one-night stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Zurich North was a seamless and enjoyable experience. From the convenience of its location to the comfort of the room, everything was thoughtfully designed to cater to the needs of a traveler. This stay also contributed to maintaining my Marriott status, which added an extra layer of satisfaction. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to fellow travelers looking for a comfortable, convenient, and competitively priced stay in Zurich.

A Swiss Marvel!
Location: Zurich, northern Switzerland.
Getting there: The international airport flies to most major European cities. You can also get the train from Milan, Vienna or Stuttgart.
Switzerland is a wonderful choise for a holiday and Zurich is my favourite city there. There are excellent views of the alps from the city bridges, you can see the Swiss cathedral spires dominating the skyline. There are really nice tiny restaurants by the river you can enjoy.
Tip: Take the tram fifteen minutes away from the center to stay in a hotel there. It's a LOT cheaper than staying in the expensive centre.

Twilight view from the top of Zurich
The top of Zurich can be easily reached by taking train S10 from Zurich HB to the final stop Uetliberg in half an hour. At 2,850 feet above sea level, Uetliberg offers an impressive panoramic view of the city.
After a short walk from the train station, you will reach the highest point of Uetliberg, where the Uto Kulm restaurant is located. It is a perfect dining place for you and your loved ones whole absorbing the breathtaking panorama. If you want an even better view, you can climb the Uetliberg Lookout Tower next to the restaurant for CHF 2. However the view from the bottom of the tower is already good enough! Uetliberg is also the starting point of a popular hiking trail. This 6-km trail from Uetliberg to Felsenegg takes you on a fascinating tour through a model of the solar system.

Zurich old town, Switzerland
Zurich’s Old Town: The historic heart of the city beats on both sides of the Limmat river. Here guild houses, churches, historic squares, and hidden-away places nestle alongside each other. Zürich’s Old Town, known as the Altstadt, encompasses what was the entire city before 1893. Cobbled and flagstone lanes lead you around landmarks such as the Grossmünster cathedral and Fraumünster church (see below), rows of towering 17th-century buildings with multi-coloured facades, and a stone bridge across the River Limmat.

Zurich Bahnhofstrasse, Switzerland
Bahnhofstrasse is Zürich's main downtown street and one of the world's most expensive and exclusive shopping avenues. In 2011, a study named the Bahnhofstrasse the most expensive street for retail property in Europe, and the third most expensive worldwide. In 2016, the street ranked ninth. It came into existence when the city fortifications were demolished in 1864 and the ditch in front of the walls was filled in. Until that time, the name of the location had been Fröschengraben ("Ditch Of The Frogs"), which then was changed to Bahnhofstrasse ("Railway Station Street").

Switzerland Travel | Walking in the Oil Painting-like Zurich
Backed by the Alps, Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland. "Zurich" means "water town" in Celtic, and the Limmat River separates the old and new city areas, with the southern end of the city being Lake Zurich.
The crescent-shaped Lake Zurich, with one end deep into the center of Zurich and the other extending southeast. The leisurely white swans can be seen everywhere on the lake, walking along the lake as if walking in a painting, beautiful and healing.
The Zurich Cathedral, founded in 1100, is a landmark building in Zurich. The unique twin towers have long been a symbol of the city, blending various architectural styles such as Romanesque and Neo-Gothic. Almost all postcards of Zurich feature the silhouette of this cathedral.
The old town of Zurich is a must-visit place, with cobblestone streets lined with elegant and beautiful ancient buildings, permeated with a nostalgic and retro atmosphere. Here, you can truly experience the life of Zurich people, with various shops including bookstores, flower shops, fashion jewelry and antique shops, etc. The famous Bahnhofstrasse is here, as one of the world's most expensive shopping streets, offering top luxury brands, jewelry, private banks, and everything you could want.
This is not a big city, one day is enough to explore, but there are many places worth checking in. No need for any guide, you can walk around and enjoy the leisure of strolling.

Crash Landing on You Filming Location 🪂
Address: Lindenhof, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland
Lindenhof is a popular touristy spot in Zurich and can get crowded at times; it is because it is a small hill that overlooks the city centre and the Limmat River 😍
(do hop on the swing if you wanna feel like 6 again 😂😂)
We got the Swiss pass (because we were travelling between cities in Swiss) and all tram & train rides are inclusive so we just hopped on them when we felt tired but Zurich is honestly quite a small old town, you can walk everywhere!!

Zurich is a melting pot of culture! ❤️
Zurich is well worth a visit for its fascinating museums, epic nightlife, extravagant shopping, and discovering different cuisines. However, you cannot yet view any breathtaking mountains and spectacular glaciers in Zurich. It’s the gorgeous churches, picturesque lake, and fantastic zoo you’ll find instead.
I honestly think you must give Zurich at least a day or two if you have plenty of time to spend traveling in Switzerland.

The old town of Zurich, Switzerland
Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and for a outdoor enthusiasts who like nature Zurich won't be my 1st choice of travel. But if you are someone who want to understand about the old times and want to enjoy the best traditional switzerlander food, then yes Zurich is the first place that you should explore since most major international carrier also fly via Zurich right?
Zurich is separated by the old town and new town and you will know the difference with the cobblestone and the houses along the streets and by the water have the medieval architecture.
Also do remember to visit the love lock bridge at muhlesteg which stretches across the Seine River where you will see many padlocks hang on the bridge railings to symbolise like locking if love for couples.
Also all around Zurich, you will find many restaurants here serving traditional food like rosti, cheese fondues and amazing desserts but just a warning, eating out in Switzerland isn't gonna be cheap!

Stunning city with its medieval architecture
Lucerne is a city Switzerland famous for itspreserved medieval architecture, sits amid snowcapped mountains on Lake Lucerne. Its colorful Altstadt (Old Town) is bordered on the north by 870m. Museggmauer (Musegg Wall), a 14-century rampart. The covered Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge), built in 1333, links the Aldstadt to the Reuss River's right bank.
We flew in to Zurich and stayed here 2 nights during our Switzerland trip. The city is compact and easy to walk around. There are many interesting things to see in this city . The Lion Monument, Old Town, Chapel Bridge, and Glacier Garden are all within walking distance of one another

Benches and heritage architecture around a pedestrian square by Lake Zurich, hosting seasonal markets. It offers a good place for photos as from there you can even see the Zurich Opera House which opened in 1891, for classic and contemporary opera & ballet. On a sunny day the square burst with white so, sun glasses will be very much welcomed.
Theaterstrasse
Similar to the London West End or New York Broadway, Zurich has its Theaterstrasse. This is where you will be able to find cinemas and theatres for your weekend night out like a local. If not too much out of your way, worth checking out some of the local plays.

Depending on the context, Lake Zurich or Zürichsee can be used to describe the lake as a whole, or just that part of the lake downstream of the Seedamm at Rapperswil, whilst the part upstream of Rapperswil may be called the Obersee or Upper Lake.
