Econo Lodge Port Augusta

We were only here for one night midway on a two day drive from Alice Springs to Melbourne. The location is out of town. It is possible to walk to an OTR / Hungry Jacks but not the most pleasant walk. Our room was back from highway so not much noise and was reasonably spacious. Parking was right outside room, motel style and all paved. I’m not sure if the restaurant was open or not. Information on various websites were a bit confusing. I believe the hotel is in a state of transition from one name (Highway 1) to another (Ecolodge). Reception / checkin hours reduced to 7 pm but they had a phone number which I was able to call. It provides 24 hr assistance on and we were able to check in even though we hadn’t booked ahead of time. No daily linen change but there is daily cleaning. Wifi in rooms. The apricot walls and blue grey carpet and brown tiles in bathroom are a bit dated but clean. Towels and toiletries are supplied. There is a shower recess with a curtain with a seperate toilet. Our room had queen bed and single bed with four pillows and blanket. There were no extra blankets but the air conditioning was split system and it kept room warm. There were bedside tables on both sides of queen bed and on one side of the single with reading lights above all beds. A small wall mounted TV was on swivel above a desk which also had a microwave. The hanging space had an ironing board, iron and hair dryer. A second desk area had a mirror, double charging points and a light above. There was also a table and two chairs, a mini fridge with two milks, glasses, cups, toaster and kettle. Coffee, tea and sugar were supplied as well as cutlery, bowls and plates. I could see five double power points in the main room: one over a desk, one near microwave and kettle, one in the middle of wall, one on the floor near the single bed / bedside table and one on floor on one side of the queen bed / bedside table. There was another double power point in fridge area and a single power point near the sink. The bathroom tiles were a bit uneven. The sink was basic and a bit crazed with limited storage above it. It had a mirror. There was good ventilation in bathroom. The hot water took some adjustment and needed just a little cold otherwise too cold. It wasn’t great shower water pressure either. There is a guest laundry but we didn’t use it.

A hotel that helps a colleague make a mistake. This family was good in all aspects of the evaluation and chose this family. The hotel's been making good comments. Nice position, too! Good recommendation!

We had a meal here and it was very nice. Just a shame about the staff. We had our table booked and another small family of 4 walked in without a booking. They moved our other half of our table to make room for themselves (understandable as we didn’t need it) one staff member came bellowing over and started talking really sternly to us for allowing them to shift a table and also had a go at the family for moving the table. It was quite embarrassing. Won’t return again for a while. Shame because the meal was nice.

This property would have been more impressive visually had we not just come from luxury in Berri, SA. The one bedroom oceanveiw apartment was all modern with a new kitchen and good dining space. The bathroom was a bit squishy with washer and dryer in it (handy for a longer stay, but we were only there one night) and toilet paper in odd spot across from the toilet (had to move it to stop it getting wet when you shower and dry yourself). Also hard to flush toilet - button stiff. Shower head powerful, but only in the outside circle, no water in the middle, but still decent. Bed a bit hard and pillows not comfy. Interesting design with 2 wall-doors (L-shape) of the bedroom opening and closing into the dining/kitchen. Did find the staff quite rude - the sofa bed was not made up upon arrival, despite it being requested, the bedding for it was left on chair beside the sofa. The last thing you feel like doing when arriving at 6pm after a long day of driving is making your own bed - especially when you've paid for the extra person to be in the room! There was also no extra towel for the extra person. We called reception and were told just make up the sofa yourself then collect the required towels from reception. No explanation, apology or offer to assist. They then called back to say they would deliver the towels to the room, which they did. The property would get 4 stars, if not for the staff/bedding issue. This apartment had no real view of water, just glimpses as it was on the ground floor behind a fence, multiple trees and the kids playground. Nice location on the esplanade, an easy walk through the property to the Esplanade for gorgeous sunset views. Liked the property being gated with the area having a poor reputation for security, would have preferred to be upstairs for more security and better views. Also then wouldn't have heard those above us walking around. Noise wasn't extreme, but definitely noticeable.

Awesome pet friendly accommodation. Great staff inclusive of management to housekeepers. Friendly, polite, accommodating Fantastic to. E able to travel with my fur kids knowing they are welcome in the motel. Loads of places to walk the fur kids, on leash due to being on the main road. Highly recommended

Wasn’t expecting too much for Port Augusta though was pleasantly surprised staying here overnight. A hotel doesn’t have to be 5 star to be enjoyable and comfortable. Sometimes it’s the little things that sets it apart . This is a central hotel on the main highway but there is very little road noise when inside the room. It’s very neat, tidy, and clean. Reception was efficient, helpful and friendly. The pictures online make it look dated. It’s not new, but it has been well maintained. What I noticed was that management have gone above and beyond so many other hotels even up to 5 star level, by implementing small improvements that make a difference. Might not be important to some but I valued the room dimmer light switches and the power points with inbuilt usb charging. So good to be able to turn on a dimmed light at night. Love how the block out curtains, actually close properly. Nice features that are rare. The complimentary continental breakfast was thoughtful. Selections are offered when you check in and can be taken back to your room to enjoy in the morning. Toast and cereal, more than adequate. Huge comfortable bed and nice flowing shower. No restaurant but next door is a good take out and across the road a Foodland. Phoning direct may well get you a better price than booking online. Would definitely stay again.
