Kirkconnel Hall Hotel
4/515 Reviews
Kirconnel Hall can trace some its history back to the 15th century. The current Hall is an 18th century country house, modernised into a comfortable hotel, full of character and history. It is now family owned and John and Marjorie offer a warm welcome. We stayed only one night, in a double room with en suite and a modern shower, and a very comfortable bed. There is a small gym which we didn’t use. We were forewarned that an evening meal was not available, but I don’t know if that is normal. Breakfast was a cold buffet, well stocked with John supplying fresh toast to order. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and will certainly return
North West Castle Hotel

This is the second time we have stayed here and will definitely be back. All the staff are amazing, everyone from the reception staff to the restaurant and bar staff. Special mention to Jill, Stuart and Mo as well as manager Ian for yet again making us feel so welcome. The food is amazing and reasonably priced and nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff to get. Breakfast in the morning was really good and we were always welcomed with a cheery hello and radiant smile. The games room is really good as well as the pool and gym area. We even got the opportunity to have a look in the ice rink as they were preparing for the new curling season. Can’t wait to try curling on our next visit. Thanks again everyone, can’t wait to come back. Peter and Paula.

I wrongly booked 2 tooms. I told the hotel soon afterwards. They said the second booking was cancelled. Not only have i paid for two rooms, a further deduction has been made from my account for the cost of a room. So i have paid twice now for a room which was cancelled soon after the initial booking. I have several times communicated this error, but no restitution has been made. BEWARE! This is fraudulent.
The Village Inn

Yet another fabulous stay here however on this occasion 9 adults and 7 children stayed two nights. This Inn is very convenient for the motorway so it made the ideal place for our family, both sides of the border, to meet here. The rooms were very comfortable the wee extras in the bathroom, including body lotion, are always lovely to use. The available fridge in the room allows fresh milk to be kept and used for tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The jar of coffee tastes so much better than those familiar (bitter in my opinion) sachets of coffee and the tea cakes make a tasty change from the 'usual' biscuits available in some hotels. Breakfast was delicious... choices of cereal, fruit juice and fruit and yogurt as well as a cooked breakfast. I don't know how Alison manages to get so many different meals out together particularly when one wants fried eggs, another scrambled and yet others want bacon well cooked. Alison was not fazed by any of this. There are highchairs too if needed. The sofas around the fire made a great area for us all to sit and natter and play boardgames/cards. There are plenty of games available to keep anyone occupied. We found Alison her usual chatty and helpful host putting everyone at ease and making us all feel welcome. We will not hesitate to stay here again.
Days Inn by Wyndham Lockerbie Annandale Water

Facilities in the room were basic but clean. There was a balcony overlooking a small lake which was really lovely with geese and ducks around. The area was well kept with picnic tables and there were lots of dog walkers. Breakfast was available at the services next door but we did not use them. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
The Famous Star Hotel Moffat

The charm of the building is its quaint narrowness, but it extends quite a long way back so there are a surprising number of rooms. My en suite double room was quite adequate, but rather on the small side, and could do with a couple more electricity points. Breakfast was included and the overall package was good value. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is free parking on the ‘square’ in front of the hotel and there were available spaces most hours. The only small issue was that the hotel restaurant was closed for dinner on Wednesdays (the day of my stay), I assume due to staffing problems. But Moffat has a number of restaurants of different styles.
White Hart Hotel

Yes the hotel looks dated and the area is down by the River but the welcome is genuine and the owner and staff are very attentive. The breakfast as others have noted is very very good indeed. The Inn is old and the rooms reflect this but it was warm clean and the bed was super with lovely pillows and a vicious shower!! I slept so well and was not disturbed by the musician but heard the seagulls. The pub stays open late but thats fine as it appears quite usual in Dumfries and perhaps Scotland in general. A lovely stay and one i hope to repeat very soon. Thank you to the owner for her welcome.

What a great stay we had here, great location, amazing staff, lovely comfortable room with a great view . The staff were so helpful and could not have done more to make us feel so welcome. This hotel is situated in beautiful grounds with lovely walks. We can’t wait for our return visit
The Harbour House Sea Front Hotel

Staff were friendly enough until we had a problem in the room. Tv not working and the manager asks” are you going to be annoyed if this doesn’t work” not quite what we expected to hear on our first visit ended up having to fix it ourselves
Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course

The Food was absolutely awful; ordered Scotch Broth, but turned out to be more Scotch Bonnet as the kitchen 'cook' well over seasoned the broth with far too much white pepper that blew my mouth apart! I ordered fish and chips with mushy peas; the fish batter was far too thick...more cake like spongy batter, and the fish was thin and not fresh; the mushy peas had a 'burnt' taste throughout, and it also came with a 'chunky onion' side salad in mayonaise; I had to send this back in disgust! Such inept staff are employed in this kitchen, and it's so very sad; explains why so few eat there now! Management have alot to answer for in this regard! Tea was served in plated pots with NO protection for ones fingers as it was damn hot to pick up; should have had a finger pad fixed on the handle, but the servers have no idea what they're doing! Best to avoid eating in this hotel, and try Newton Stewartl
