We had a very comfortable stay at Hotel Metropolitan Nagano. The location is excellent, as it is directly connected to Nagano Station, which made traveling around the area very convenient. The room was clean, spacious, and well-maintained, and the bed was very comfortable.
The staff were polite and helpful throughout our stay, and check-in was smooth. There are also many restaurants and shops nearby, which made it easy to find food and explore the area. Overall, it was a great place to stay in Nagano and we would definitely consider staying here again.
Bed is rather small for 2. Room space hard to move about but we managed since it is for a night stay. Like the cleanliness and amenities provided. Location to the main Nagano station helps! Live up to its hotel's name as staff were very welcoming and they smiled đ
Good location, train station is just opposite.
Nearby also have many F&B.
Cleanliness is good.
Room is not very spacious, it makes me think of Shinjuku Washington Hotel size.
But service is very good, more friendly, and they help us to move the luggage up to our room straight after our bag hv transfer via luggage transfer service.
So when we reach hotel, we just need to check in and go up straight.
There's washing machine and dryer provided with fee, however is a small one.
The lobby is very nice and comfortable.
Will consider to stay here again if I visiting Nagano.
This is our first time to ski Japan.  This hotel was located perfectly with great access to some super beginning facilities.  Good enough about skiing, the hotel is perfect and the staff is amazing. The food and amenities are excellent. We had a private hot spring every evening really added to the enjoyment.  My wife and I and eight year-old daughter had a great time  you so much for the great experience and all the hospitality  Perfect Stay. 100%!!!
The room was incredibly spacious. Although it's a bit of a walk from the station, the soundproofing is excellent, so you won't hear any train noise at night. There's a convenient store nearby, and the hotel even offers a thoughtful Happy Hour with complimentary drinks and snacks. The breakfast was delicious, and I'd definitely stay here again if I have the chance.
I booked a deluxe twin room on the new standard floor, which was 30 square meters â a decent size. It's about a 10+ minute walk from the JR station, and the route is straightforward. When I checked in, I found that an extra bed had been added for me.
I also booked breakfast on the 16th floor based on positive reviews. It wasn't too crowded in the morning, and sitting by the window, looking at the distant mountains, set a great tone for the day. It's a shame it didn't snow during my stay.
The bathroom in the room had a separate wet and dry area.
Everything else was good, except there was no complimentary water in the fridge.
The rooms (just regular guests rooms, not even the premium ones) were very spacious and comfortable given their price. The warm atmosphere was very healing and I loved being able to bathe in hot springs after a tiring day of snowsports!
Although the hotel seemed quiet from the outside, we saw many guests staying inside and it was a pretty lively atmosphere, which is something I like.
The landscape is quite lovely too. Although there was little natural snow, the slopes were still fine to ski on due to their artificial snow machines. The slopes were very beginner-friendly as well, however, as they get more frequently used through the day, they tend to become really icy and difficult to ski on.
Overall, I had a great time! It was a shame that there wasnât snowy weather to match.
Thank you for the thoughtful service. The hotel is a bit far from Nagano Station, so I used the shuttle bus. The driver was also very polite and made the ride pleasant. If I have the chance to visit Nagano again, I'd like to stay here. *A special thank you to all the staff at the breakfast buffet.
A good hotel close to Nagano Station, though it's still about a 10-minute walk. They offer a buffet breakfast and even room cleaning (despite what was stated during booking about no cleaning for stays under 3 nights). Essential amenities are provided, including a hairdryer, kettle, mugs, toothbrushes, and so on.
Downside #1: It gets cold inside during winter, so you have to turn on the air conditioning for heating.
Downside #2: The outlets don't charge European laptops, even with an adapter.
Downside #3: The Wi-Fi periodically disconnected.
This was a last minute selection on the train from Tokyo, but the right one. It's a short 5 minute walk from the Nagano station and has spacious rooms. The staff is friendly and helpful, but best of all, on arrival you are given a welcome drink and dessert of your choice. The entire place seems to be obsessed with desserts, to my liking. They also provides free ice cream and upon check out, bags of candy and cookies. Maybe it's a Christmas promotion, but a welcome surprise. The breakfast is a bit expensive, but has a nice selection of food choices, including salmon, more desserts, and various Japanese food. I only stayed one night, but I believe they have an onsen and other amenities. Well worth it. I stayed in other hotels in Nagano, and this one was superior.

LLanxin001I highly recommend this onsen hotel, ranked among the top 30 in all of Japan, to anyone visiting Matsumoto! The room views, hot springs, food, and service are all impeccable. Having stayed at many Japanese onsen hotels, this one truly offers excellent value for money.
Service: The hotel is a 20-minute drive from JR Station and provides a shuttle service. When you arrive at Matsumoto Station, you can leave your luggage at the ACE Hotel, part of the same group, freeing you up to explore. ACE then delivers your luggage to Shoho by 4 PM, which is a very thoughtful arrangement. The front desk service is warm and friendly. A gentleman named Ito helped us book a restaurant in Ise for the next day, making several calls until he finally secured a reservation, for which we are very grateful đ.
Ambiance: The 56-square-meter mountain-view room is spacious and comfortable, with views of a small town nestled beneath snow-capped mountains right outside the window. The sunrise and sunset are absolutely beautiful. The large public baths on both sides offer unique scenic experiences and are both worth trying, especially the snow mountain view bath, which provides expansive vistas.
Facilities: The room is very well-maintained and fully equipped. The hotel also has a souvenir shop, and complimentary drinks are available in the afternoon.
Dining: The half-board plan includes a multi-course kaiseki dinner and a buffet breakfast. The variety is extensive, the food is delicious, and it's well worth the price. If you opt not to include meals, there's a ramen restaurant in the hotel, catering to various budgets.

BBryce van de LaarFrom the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and donât see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once youâve changed into your traditional yukata, itâs time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals youâve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you wonât even need to open your suitcase while youâre there.
The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance.
- The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit.
- The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning.
- After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you donât need to worry about those logistics.
- Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30.
- The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. Itâs a boutique hotel, so you donât have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want.
- The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably wonât have time or the desire for this.
- Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern).
We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.
GGordon Tan Kee KeongNicely designed hotel with nice room. Good service but you need to drive. Otherwise you are in an isolated location. However signage of hotel is not obvious on the road so we miss it twice!! Breakfast was limited so second day we drove out to a more local breakfast place. We did a room upgrade as we were inform via email from hotel that it was ânearerâ to the entry hotel. But this was not really true as the hotel was basi3 big blocks lined up together at the back of entrance. So the nearest to the enter is not make a big difference!!
AAdil AdelshinRoom a bit tired, need some update. Location is good enough, about 10 min walk from train station. Free bycicle rent, nice breakfast
Nice little city among mountains
NNuonuokafeiThe classic Karuizawa Resort Hotel, which has been passed down for more than 100 years, has been restored to its original state. It will welcome guests with a brand new look in 2024. There is a pick-up at the hotel's pick-up area at the south exit of Karuizawa Station. The car is parked a little inside and you have to look for it. There is a bus at 2:30 in the afternoon. If there is no bus, take a taxi directly to the hotel, which costs about RMB 60. The hotel's etiquette reception is impeccable. Every staff member is warm and friendly. The room is just the best time to live. It is brand new but no longer decorated. I booked a better room with a terrace than the basic room. I was given a corner room with large double-sided glass. The room is so beautiful. The terrace is quite small and I have never been out. The basic room of the hotel is also very large. There is no problem. Every room is comfortable to live in. It is recommended to include meals. Dinner is 16,500 yen plus 1,000 yen to upgrade the meat. The meat is tender and delicious. It is worth it! Every dish was delicious, the right temperature, the best quality. Breakfast was 5700 yen, not bad, but the quality was not as good as the breakfast in Nikko Jingu. The boiled egg was hard to open without an egg opener, the bacon was not crispy, and the toast was not toasted. I was a little disappointed, but the service was still perfect. The curtains in the room were very blackout, which was highly praised. There were many buses going to and from the station to go shopping at the outlets. It was easy to buy. There were all the big sports brands and the styles were new. In summary, I would stay here again if I went to Karuizawa.
OO.K. MACIâve stayed at many ryokans throughout my travelsâoften making up half of each tripâbut this one felt a bit different.
It seemed to be run by just one person, who I assume is the owner. Everything was self-service, which might be understandable considering it was the most affordable option among the ryokans in the area.
Most amenities required an extra fee, such as towels. Payment was made by dropping coins into a basket and making your own change, which wasnât very convenientâespecially since I didnât carry much cash.
One thing I appreciated was the luggage delivery service. I was able to leave my bag at the lobby before check-out and have it sent to Toyama Station (for about 4,000 JPY, cash only).
What stood out was the creativity in the shared spaces. There were several common rooms designed for relaxing and spending timeâperfect if youâre traveling with friends. You could play ping pong, read books, watch TV, or use the canteen, which had a microwave and dishes available.
They even had coin-operated massage chairs and a small fitness room.
However, I must mention two important downsides:
1. Limited nearby dining options â Many restaurants shown as open on Google Maps were actually closed. The only one that was open had extremely slow serviceâI waited nearly an hour for dinner.
2. Insectsâlarge ones â Unfortunately, I encountered big insects in my room, which made it hard to sleep. (He even provided insect-catch tape for me while introduce the room) I stayed awake most of the night, worrying it might come backâespecially stressful since I had to get up early the next morning to catch a bus to Ogizawa.
Minds you, stairs only, need to carry your luggage down by yourself.
Overall, while it offers good value for the area and has unique communal features, this ryokan may not suit travelers who prefer full service, cashless payment, or guaranteed comfort.
GGuest UserGreat Stay at Hotel Courtland, Matsumoto!
Just wanted to drop a quick review for Hotel Courtland in Matsumotoâwhat a pleasant find!
The location is absolutely fantastic. Seriously, it's about a 5-minute, worry-free walk from the station. This was a huge plus, especially since we had luggage; no need to struggle or look for a taxi. Adding to the value, the price at the time of booking was very cheap, making this a fantastic deal!
As for the hotel itself, I have to say, it's exceptionally clean. Like, super clean. It made our stay feel very comfortable and relaxing.
What really stood out was the amazing hospitality. We arrived after a 4-hour ride from Tokyo and were pretty frozen from the winter shock. The staff kindly offered us a free early check-in, which was incredibly thoughtful and exactly what we needed to warm up and refresh. It really saved the day!
We didn't get a chance to try the breakfast this time, but based on everything else, I imagine it's great too.
Highly recommend this hotel if you're ever in Matsumoto!
FFussy New YorkerI had a large tatami room with side sitting area and sink as well as an ante-room. I had three delicious Japanese meals at the ryokan that were served with polite elegance. The two in-house onsen baths were a joy to use after a day of skiing. The staff was knowledgeable about how to get around by the buses and suggested the best restaurants for days that I did not eat at the ryokan. ïżŒSenshinkan Matsuya was situated in the center of.Shibu Onsen townïżŒ next to three of the public onsen. I could not ask for a better stay!
