This hotel is very neat and clean. The room is spacious with a beautiful view of Lake Biwa, and a walk along the lake is very relaxing. It's definitely worth staying here. I especially love the fragrant POLA toiletries they provide, and the bath salts are also lovely for a very comfortable bath in the evening. 👍 There's a free shuttle service from the north exit of Otsu Station, just across the street, that takes about 10 minutes to reach the hotel. There's a convenience store within a 5-minute walk, and a large mall about a 15-minute walk away. Near Otsu Station, there's a food market with great food at reasonable prices. I'd love to come back again if I have the chance.
Very good experience at the Mercure Lake Biwa. A high-standard hotel with great views and quality services. Even though there were many group guests, everything was well organized. Thanks to my Accor card, I could enjoy some nice benefits, which was much appreciated. The staff was friendly, attentive, and always willing to help.
They are also bike friendly !
The hotel is a bit of a distance from the JR station, but the shuttle bus every 20 minutes is quite convenient. The view is absolutely beautiful; the balcony faces Lake Biwa, perfect for watching the sunset in peace and tranquility.
Overall experience only so so average……. I don’t expect such a huge hotel giant - Marriott Group has these shortfalls !
Let’s talk about the suggested improvements on facilities provided by hotel:
1) parking facilities - there is no accessible ramps or pavements for customers taking their heavy luggage from the parking areas - the only thing that we can do was to carry these luggages up the staircases to the hotel lobby from the parking area.
2) hotel entrance lay-by - it was raining heavily when I checked out today. I planned to drive my car to the hotel entrance so that my family members can jump into the car and I can load all my luggages to the trunk under the canopy of the hotel entrance. “Luckily”, the canopy is too short and has no such design and finally everybody got into the car and they were ALL WET. I have to load those luggages to the car under the rain……
3) Onsen (public bath) - nothing to say about this old, obsolete, small public bath without maintanance.
4) staff - I’d say, with the “name” of Marriott, this hotel is really under staff……
Other - nothing to say really
Good location just near station. The room is the biggest I have ever stayed in Japan. The facilities are good and new. Hotel offer free breakfast and fresh fruit juice. Highly recommended!
Came to Lake Biwa and enjoyed a hot spring bath. The room was spacious, and the private onsen was spotless. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious; highly recommended. Perfect for a relaxing getaway.
This hotel has the best hotel receptionist we met on our 6 week traveling through Japan.
Our bicycle was broken, she was very patient with the language barrier between us.
She insisted we brought the bike insde the hotel as outside it was too hot.
She went collect plastic gloves, carried our bike chain (which was very greasy), helped 10 minutes to work on the chain.
She told us she worked in a bikeshop before she started working in the hotel.
An amazing lady!!
The Western-style room was spacious, with a large, comfortable bed. The onsen (hot springs) were excellent, with several to choose from, and the area wasn't crowded. The water was excellent, leaving my skin feeling smooth and refreshed. The hotel requires a meal plan; adding dinner upon arrival costs 10,000 yen per person. There are few restaurants nearby, but there's a yakiniku restaurant with excellent beef.
The front desk is located on the second floor of the Lawson convenience store in the west exit rotary, right next to Kusatsu Station. The three staff members at the small front desk were efficient and helpful. The contracted parking lot is in the building immediately to the left as you enter the rotary, and the signs were easy to find. The overnight parking fee of 500 yen was a welcome bonus. The amenities were also of high quality. The water, tea, and snacks in the refrigerator were all free, which was a nice touch.
I always feel safe staying here. On weekends, there are many other guests, so the noise can be a concern, but on weekdays it is very quiet and nice.

AAnonymous UserThe room faces Lake Biwa, and the autumn colors are beautiful.
The Japanese-style room is quiet, clean and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner are excellent.
The hotel staff is also very friendly and it is a pleasant holiday here.
You can call the hotel for free pick-up at Ogoto Station.

RRoger MichaelOk. First of all leave your expectations at home expecting hotel level service. Once you've done that if you want a cheap but clean place to stay this is it. This is a seinenkan - a facility for youth and youth-related organizations to conduct independent study and recreational activities, many of which have basic accommodation facilities but higher grade facilities than youth hostels. They are located all over Japan. I stayed in a tatami mat room on a floor with shared toilet facilities. The ground floor has a large communal bath - obviously separate for male and females. They have lights out at 11 p.m. and guests must return by the same time. There is a very modern cafe onsite serving cheap breakfasts (see photos) but the cafe closes by 6 p.m. There is a convenience store 10 minutes walk away so I suggest you buy snacks and beverages en route from JR Ishiyama station. For dinner, there is a family restaurant - good value and okay food - about 6 minutes walk away.
The seinenkan is located on a small island by a historic bridge. The views of the river inlet flowing into the main Lake Biwa is relaxing, lots of bird wildlife, and lots of rowers (the seinenkan is a water sports facility too). and the sunrise and sunset views are lovely.
The staff are very kind. It cost me ¥5,500 for one night and I will stay there again if I have the opportunity.

GGuest UserThe hotel is only a 10-minute walk from Hikone Station, which is very convenient. The hotel is opposite Hikone Castle, and you can see Hikone Castle while taking a hot spring bath, especially the night view is better. The breakfast is very rich, with many varieties and good service.

JJiexixiaokaJapanese version of the full season, the room is relatively large, you can see Hikone Castle, 100 meters away from the JR station, the price is very high, the breakfast is average, optional meals are included, there is a super large store across the road, the second floor taxfree has a variety of cosmetics Clothing and local products, the underground supermarket is large and you can buy all kinds of lunch boxes, with a microwave and dining area.
Hikone is so cute, Hikone Castle is so so
MMelonimoniWe didn't know that this is a love hotel and only realised it the day before checking in, as the check in is only from 6pm. The room is very spacious and we didn't mind the ****, condoms and lots of beauty products it came with. :D However, I didn't know that hotel rooms in Japan can allow smoking, so the strong cigarette smell in the room was very off putting.
We put up a 'do not disturb' sign because we don't need cleaning daily. The second day I noticed some of the **** from the hotel were gone in our room but the room wasn't made (bed wasn't made, trash not emptied). I asked the staff and they said they removed it because they thought it bothered us. This was a bit weird to me, I'm not sure where they got the idea from and I don't know why they entered the room. It's also important to note that the train only runs once per hour most of the day (during some hours twice).
