Hotels With parking in West Coast, New Zealand

We were greeted with warm hospitality by the owner Angela when we arrived to check into Franz Josef Oasis. The executive king suite room was clean, cosy and spacious. We enjoyed sitting on the sofas with warm blankets place for our comfort near the fireplace. The location of this place is also good as it 5 minutes drive to the town where we had a delicious dinner at Blue Ice Restaurant and Bar which was recommended to us by Angela. The service is excellent and I will definitely recommend this place to those who are travelling to Franz Josef !

Maybe it's the off-season, so there weren't many guests. The biggest plus was the very new bathroom. The room was small, and there were no kitchen facilities. A small fridge hung awkwardly over the sink, which was really inconvenient. The closet was so packed with an ironing board and other items that there was hardly any space to hang clothes.

The room was old and musty. The facilities are poor, there is no restaurant, and you have to drive to another motel restaurant nearby to eat (although there is a 10% discount). Parking is very convenient, just parked at the door of the room.

The hotel is great within walking distance to the train station for Tranzalpine, restaurant in the hotel offer awesome food and drink, the room is slightly basic with no air conditioning, however it has a fan and a heater

Our stay at Haka House Franz Josef was a great experience overall. The property has a lively, social atmosphere that makes it easy to meet fellow travellers, yet it still offers quiet corners for those who prefer downtime. The common areas are spacious and well-kept, with a cozy lounge and kitchen facilities that make self-catering simple. The location is excellent—right in the heart of Franz Josef, within walking distance to cafes, shops, and the glacier activities. The bunk room we stayed in was basic but clean, with comfortable beds but limited storage and stuffy! It’s easy to see why it’s such a popular spot in town.

Short drive to Lake Matheson and Fox Glacier view. Big and nice with shelter for car park right in front of the motel. Salt/pepper/rice cooker/bread toaster/milk/ basic utensils for cooking are provided. All is good except that towels aren’t changed daily.

The apartment we stayed in was quite new and felt pleasant. Rooms are quite spacious and clean. The Kitchen was new and well equiped. It’s in a small township near Fox Glacier. There was a view point, which was about a few minutes driver from the motel, where the view of the snow peaks and glacier was spectacular. It is also not far from Franz Joseph glacier.

Rimu Lodge was an absolute delight. From the moment we arrived, the owner, Sue Allen, made us feel incredibly welcome. Our room was beautifully decorated and offered a breathtaking view, creating a serene and relaxing atmosphere. Every detail was thoughtfully curated—from the fresh milk for our tea and coffee to the complimentary drinks and chocolates, all adding to the sense of warmth and hospitality. Breakfast was exceptional, with a delicious selection of cooked options to choose from. The entire experience was nothing short of wonderful. I highly recommend staying for at least two nights to fully appreciate the charm and comfort of this remarkable lodge.

The season I came here is the end of spring and the beginning of summer. This season, the starry sky is very beautiful. We drove from the mountain to the accommodation. The environment on the road without light damage is even more beautiful. There are some lights in the hotel, but you can still see a good starry sky.

It is alright, but not great - certainly it is worn around the edges. It is the first place I stayed in during my 3 week holiday with no fridge... So much for the by now warm riggers of beer I bought at breweries en route. The service was never with any kind of smile. The food in their restaurant was adequate and the beer was, to my taste, bland and unexciting. Staying here is not a disaster, but nor is it memorable. For the amount they must make (the room was not inexpensive) they could and should do better. But I guess it is a captive market in season, and ”just about good enough” is all they need to bother with.
