Alisa checked us in and was incredibly welcoming. When she heard it was our first time in Lanzhou, she even got us a Hyatt-made map and gave us some simple travel tips! She was so enthusiastic and thoughtful! The hotel is across from a park, and you can also see the Yellow River, which is perfect for those who enjoy a morning stroll. Waking up to the view of the Yellow River is incredibly refreshing. The room was spotless, and the cleaning staff were very diligent every day (usually, after the second day of a consecutive stay, the cleaning can feel a bit less thorough, but here it was consistently excellent). The breakfast had a great variety, and I absolutely loved the freshly fried Youtiao (Chinese crullers) — they were delicious! All the staff, from the gym to the concierge and the restaurant, were so friendly! I absolutely love the Hyatt Lanzhou! I'll definitely be back!
The best aspect of this stay was by far the owner. He was incredibly, incredibly helpful and friendly — from the moment I walked in the door he offered me a cup of tea, then provided tea and bread the next morning for breakfast, offered advice on what to see in the area, arranged a car to take me to Dalzong Lake, and finally even found me a spot on a local minibus going to my next destination. I couldn’t have done half the things I did during my stay in Xiahe without his advice and efforts on my behalf, so that alone made staying here fully worthwhile!
It’s worth mentioning that the guesthouse’s architecture is also absolutely beautiful, and everything looks quite new. It’s located down a quiet side alley off of one of the main commercial streets in town, which seems like the ideal placement.
On the accommodations: I stayed in one of the two tents erected on the second floor of the guesthouse. This was largely quite a good experience! The bed was very comfortable (with a heated pad), water and towels provided, etc. The tents are not in a closed-off area, but rather on the second floor/balcony area that also is used for sitting, serving tea, etc., so privacy is somewhat limited, but the whole guesthouse is relatively quiet anyway so it doesn’t feel like a public space. My only suggestions for improvement would be related to the bathroom: during my stay, the shared bathroom for the tents was a sort of temporary-style booth installed in the corner of the room with a toilet, sink, and showerhead. The bathroom was very clean and everything inside worked well, but its sliding door separated from the wall enough that there was always a substantial enough space on one side or the other that could be seen through (the door also didn’t lock and slid back and forth easily). The booth was also small enough that, realistically, I think it would be a bit of a challenge to actually use it to shower. If possible it might be worth looking into some simple fixes to improve these situations, but otherwise I have no complaints!
One of my favourite stays in 6 months across China
Communication before arrival was smooth via WeChat, and the staff proactively helped me plan a full itinerary for the region, all in English, which as a foreign solo traveller in China I truly appreciated.
The hotel arranged a driver who picked me up directly at the train station gate and took me wherever I needed to go. I could adjust my plans at any time, and he was always there waiting or arrived right on schedule. The whole organzation was genuinely flexible and reliable.
The location of the hotel is perfect, like less than 10 minutes walking from Danxia Park West Gate, so you can catch the 5:30 AM opening for sunrise at Platform 1 and go for sunset at Platform 3.
The staff helped me to go to Binguo, Kangle Grassland, Alien Scenic Park, Pingshan Grand Canyon and Mati Temple. Over 5 days, I saw far more than I ever could have managed on my own, especially as this area is really remote and no didi is available.
It is one of my favourite trips and stays from six months in China and I’ve seen quite a bit. Would come back without hesitation.

One of the biggest highlights of this hotel is the warmth of all the staff. They were always smiling and proactive in offering help, which made me, a solo traveler, feel incredibly welcome. The room's cleanliness was also very satisfying; everything from the bedding to the bathroom was spotless and fresh. The free parking lot had plenty of spaces, which was very convenient. In the evening, I could enjoy a grand yet peaceful desert sunset right from my tent. At night, without any light pollution, the starry sky was exceptionally clear and bright, seemingly within reach. This stay, from the facilities to the service, and from the views to the atmosphere, was absolutely perfect.

The hotel I stayed at in Dunhuang was quite interesting, called Dunhuang Hotel, but it's actually just a small three-story hotel.
**1. Rooms and Facilities:**
I'd advise you to book a twin room, as they are very spacious. The single or queen rooms, on the other hand, are incredibly small, I'm not sure what the design idea was there. What's truly frustrating is the poor soundproofing; you can hear people jumping around upstairs, which is really annoying.
**2. Price and Service:**
Even during the off-season in Dunhuang, this hotel wasn't particularly cheap, but overall, it was acceptable. The service was also quite ordinary. I was shocked at check-in when, even at 3 PM, my room wasn't ready yet, which felt absurd. I initially wanted to switch rooms, but ended up not doing so.
**3. Dining and Amenities:**
The hotel doesn't offer complimentary breakfast. If you ask about it, they'll just tell you to pay extra. Of course, eating out in Dunhuang is also an option.
**4. Complimentary Activities:**
The hotel also offers a so-called ”Western Splendor Tour” or something similar. However, it's a group tour with over 50 people. How do these large bus tours make money, you ask? It's all through commission on ticket sales.
So, overall, this hotel is quite average. The kickbacks are significant; for about 40 people, they can get around 1,000 RMB back, meaning 20-30 RMB per person. Because that tour route has so many scenes and attractions, it's all about earning commission. Therefore, I truly don't recommend this hotel. Maybe someone on Xiaohongshu recommended it, so I tried it, but it would have been better to just go for a more standardized option like an All Seasons or Hanting.

I stayed at this hotel seven or eight years ago, and even though it's an older property, it's still kept very clean and tidy. All the staff I encountered were warm and friendly. It's really close to 'Carb Cross' (碳水十字), so I had Jinqiang one day and Mogouyan Beef Noodles the next. The Chinese restaurant on the second floor is also excellent; both the service and the food quality were great, so good I ate there twice!
Conveniently located within walking distance to the labrang monastery (400m) west entrance. They could arrange for transportation around xiahe.
Room was clean and spacious , just a little cold as we arrived in end may which makes it difficult to take a shower. Generally, we enjoyed our stay there. As we were staying there for 3 days, we later had to venture out further to try other food varieties.
Would prefer if they could arrange for more affordable prices for non native speaking travellers when securing private car hires.

I highly recommend Dunhuang Nashan Guesthouse. This heartwarming guesthouse truly enhanced our entire trip, making the whole experience perfect! The owner's service was incredibly warm and thoughtful, with attentive details present from before our arrival until our departure.
We booked the airport transfer service in advance, and the driver was waiting punctually at the airport. The ride was smooth, and he patiently introduced us to local road conditions and travel tips along the way. He was very proactive in handling our luggage, so we didn't have to lift a finger. As soon as we entered the room, we saw a beautifully arranged welcome fruit platter. The fruits were fresh, plump, and fragrant, and this little surprise instantly melted away the fatigue of our long journey, making us feel incredibly warm and welcomed.
The guesthouse provides daily breakfast with a diverse selection and authentic flavors. The ingredients were fresh and delicious – a perfect way to fuel up before a day of exploring. In the afternoon, they also prepared an exquisite afternoon tea, featuring refreshing drinks paired with special local pastries. Sitting in the courtyard, relaxing and chatting, was so pleasant and unwinding.
All the staff members were enthusiastic and friendly, genuinely sincere and easygoing. They meticulously answered any questions we had and even proactively shared routes for visiting Mingsha Mountain and recommended local food spots. Every aspect was considered thoroughly. Our room was spotlessly clean, warmly decorated, and the bedding was soft and comfortable, making our stay exceptionally pleasant.
Throughout our entire stay, everything from the airport transfers, fruit, breakfast, and afternoon tea was thoughtfully provided, and the service was impeccable. The owner perfected every detail, being warm yet professional, making us feel as comfortable as if we were at home. The environment, amenities, and service all far exceeded our expectations, offering excellent value for money. If you're traveling to Dunhuang, choosing this guesthouse is definitely the right decision. I've already recommended it to my friends, and I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit!

I've lost count of how many times I've stayed at this hotel. I just stumbled upon these beautiful photos from a previous stay in my album today and couldn't resist sharing them. Every time I walk in, I'm drawn to the authentic, down-to-earth vibe. The front desk staff are always so welcoming, eagerly greeting us and helping with our luggage. The rooms are spotless and incredibly comfortable. But the absolute best part is the snow outside the window. Waking up and drawing the curtains to a pristine white landscape, with snowflakes gently drifting down – it instantly puts me in a fantastic mood. I also have to rave about the hotel's pour-over coffee. The freshly ground beans are so aromatic, and the coffee itself is rich and smooth, not bitter at all. A warm cup in the morning, enjoyed while gazing at the snowy scenery, is pure bliss. The service is also exceptionally thoughtful; any request is met quickly and efficiently. Next time I'm in Jiayuguan, I will definitely choose this hotel again. I genuinely recommend it to everyone!

The newly renovated room was incredibly stylish. The desk and partition were integrated seamlessly, and the sink, bathtub, and toilet were all separated, providing excellent privacy. I particularly loved the washbasin's unique material – water drops created a lovely chime. A room of this size in Japan could easily be two separate units! The mini-fridge was very handy for storing food, which was a lifesaver for our early 8:45 AM slot at the Mogao Grottoes Digital Center. The outer walls were 48 bricks thick, providing great earthquake resistance and insulation. They also had all the amenities, including a smoke escape mask, razor, and bath liner. The pick-up and drop-off service was an added bonus. The 9th-floor restaurant terrace offered fantastic views.
A special shout-out to Xiaodai, who arranged our airport pick-up. After booking our flights and hotel on Ctrip, I confirmed the pick-up with the hotel. On April 2nd, flying from Chengdu to Lanzhou, then Lanzhou to Dunhuang (with a stopover in Jiayuguan), our flight was delayed three times due to strong winds. Xiaodai kept in constant communication with me, even confirming again when we were pushed back and taxing in Jiayuguan. We finally arrived 4 hours late. The moment I turned on my phone after landing, I received a message from driver Mr. Wu, who picked us up smoothly and got us to the hotel. Following Xiaodai's advice, we left at 7:50 AM for the Mogao Grottoes Digital Center, making it to the 8:45 AM first show. We then successfully got tickets for our desired special grottoes and visited all the open areas of the Mogao Grottoes.
On April 4th, I went to the front desk to ask about the bus to the airport and happened to find Xiaodai on duty. She told me they could arrange a drop-off. When I gave her my room number, she recognized me from our earlier pick-up arrangements. My interactions with Xiaodai showed me the hotel's excellent service, with attention to every single detail. If 10 is the highest score, I'd give them a 12. Dunhuang is a place you'll want to visit more than once or twice.

GGuest UserThe boss was very enthusiastic. I contacted him one day in advance and waited for us at the station early the next morning. The accommodation was close to the East Gate. We said we were going to Crescent Lake and Mingsha Mountain. The boss took the initiative to drive us to the Middle Gate, saying that we could save 20 yuan on the shuttle bus fare. The next day, we signed up for a tour group to go out and play. The boss also sent us to the boarding point early in the morning. The boss was afraid that it would be inconvenient to go back after the Crescent Lake Music Festival, so he also came to pick us up, making our travel very convenient. The accommodation environment is also very good, and the steamed bun for breakfast is particularly large.

HHuangqijinqiangyuI brought my parents, who are in their 70s, to visit Maiji Mountain. The hostess was incredibly warm and attentive. After arriving at the North Gate 1 of the Maiji Mountain scenic area, we just made a call and she came directly to pick us up and take us to the guesthouse. The room was spotless, not a speck of dust anywhere. For dinner, we had mushroom stew with free-range chicken and stir-fried wild vegetables – truly delicious! 😋 The next day, she dropped us off at the entrance of the Maiji Mountain scenic spot at 7:30 AM, so we were the first ones to go in at 8:30 AM. After our visit, we saw a super long queue had already formed outside. Afterward, we took a taxi to explore Xianren Cliff and Jingtu Temple. Finally, the hostess even drove our luggage to the Line 34 bus stop to drop us off. It was a truly perfect day, so relaxed and easy. We avoided the crowds in the morning and didn't have to wait in long lines, making for a 10/10 visiting experience. Huge thanks to the hostess for the pick-up and drop-off service!

AAnonymous UserIf life is a never-ending journey, then the camping trip at the Desert Star Hotel is undoubtedly a highlight of my journey.
When I arrived at the campsite, the first thing that attracted me was the unique tent house. Unlike regular tents, the top of the tent is made of special transparent materials, like a huge viewing platform, which builds a bridge of communication between me and the vast galaxy. As night fell, I couldn't wait to lie on the soft bed, and when I looked up, the bright starry sky was presented to me without reservation. The stars twinkled, like gems inlaid on the black sky, beautiful as a dream. At that moment, the world seemed to press the mute button, and the impetuousness and noise in my heart were instantly soothed. The unique beauty of this quietness made me intoxicated.
It is worth mentioning that the hotel staff is very considerate. After placing the order, the customer service guy at the front desk added our contact information and gave us some local travel tips, which saved us a lot of time. From the warm reception at check-in, to the careful guidance during the activities, to the warm greetings at night, every detail made people feel cared for. They not only provided me with thoughtful service, but also made me feel the simplicity and enthusiasm of the desert people.
This desert camping trip not only allowed me to appreciate the magnificent scenery of the desert, but also experienced exciting and interesting activities, which became an eternal and beautiful memory in my heart.
AARTHURStaff was really friendly and tries to speak English. Cleanliness of the room was not perfect, given the stains in the toilet and the rubbish underneath the bed. Overall the hygiene was good though. If you want a low cost stay with a good breakfast, this is the place to be! Location is also very good in the center of all major sights in the neighbourhood.

HHeizeebilongThe room was very clean and quiet, with easy parking. It's just a few steps from the entrance to Langmusi Temple and right next to the snack street, which is very convenient. The owner was warm and attentive. He even offered to move the elderly couple's room to the first floor, which was very heartwarming.
GGuest UserWe came to Dunhuang with our children, looking forward to it for a long time. The weather was really hot, but it didn't affect our determination to go out at all. We booked this B&B and it was very comfortable. The price was really cheap and the cost performance was really high. This price for the summer vacation was really conscientious. The B&B had thoughtful service. You can consult any questions and they will answer them seriously. The B&B is very close to the scenic spots and it is very convenient to travel.

BBlade.around.the.worldThe Donhuang Island Guesthouse is located in a rather nondescript building but in an excellent location just a few minutes walk from the middle entrance of the Mingsha mountain on a fairly quiet side street. The Guesthouse is surrounded by eateries.and has camels walking past the front of the property in mornings and evenings on their way from and to work. The Guesthouse has an easy location to catch a taxi as it's nearby an intersection with lots of taxis available.
It's important to understand that this property is not located in downtown which is probably part of it's charm. A taxi will cost 35 yuan from the train station or Mongua Caves. Going to the night market which is 5 kilometres away will cost you 11 yuan by regular taxi.
The Donhuang Island gueshouse offers simple but smartly furnished rooms. The beds are good, the shower is hot and the air-conditioning is cold. But what makes this guesthouse truly stand out is the remarkable hospitality from the owner and his whole team. Hahan the golden retriever from the property across the road comes by on a frequent visit and is the centre of attention.
It was a pleasure to stay here. The only minus is; how much I hate the disposable towels but that is just a minor thing amid all the positivity.
