The Grand Burstin Hotel

Fella 4 doors down said he saw what looked like a lady in Victorian dress pass him on the stairs, he said he was also awoken at 3am by the same apparition standing at the foot of his bed pointing at him. But to be fair he did stink of booze. Not exactly the Chelmsford Hilton but not a bad gaff for the price. Great location, had a feel of a classic hotel about it, bit like the one out of the Shining but with more Jack Duckworth than Jack Nicholson. Drinks in the bar weren't bad but did have to question the scotch as it had an after-taste that bought back memories of intamacy with an ex-Girlfriend who only showered once a week. Situation was sorted imedietely and went onto G&T's with a few Dolly birds up from Hastings so wasnt a problem. A group of locals outside tried to intimidate when one ventured out but after squaring up to the ring leader, fists raised and eyeballs looking like that italian bald ref from back in the day the fella and his cronies sooned backed down. Not sure its a place for youngsters or families but for a 62yr old fella like myself looking for a night away from the Missus its the perfect gaff. Highly recommended.

What an amazing hidden gem this is. Nestled on a hill top overlooking the marshes with Warehorn church over the road, this pub with rooms is a must for a romantic get away. We arrived early and had a drink in the bar, which is beautifully quirky, a welcoming log fire burning and a wide selection of drinks. We had booked ”Niddy” an attic room with so much to give, a comfy bed, roll top bath, and so much character. The only ****** I had with the room, was the W.C squeezed into the roof space it was a little awkward to stand up and wee, but that's a small thing when it comes to such a great room. Requesting a quiet table for dinner, we were given one in a side area and again we couldn't believe it, it was super romantic and we had the whole room to ourselves. Our waiter Muli was so good, he was attentive but not intruding, and so funny, we haven't had many meals out and he really did make the evening. The food was excellent and the vegan burger was one of the best I have had. The location was brilliant, if you're into walking, cycling, birdwatching or wanting to visit local sites (rye was only 20min drive away) The rest of the staff were also brilliant, and couldn't do enough for us. We will definitely return.
King Charles Hotel

This is an excellent hotel, with good facilities, lovely central courtyard, plenty of free parking, and very friendly staff. With Chatham and the Dockyard nearby, the location is excellent. Not certain which category to put this hotel in! It's not luxury but better than budget. The rooms are a little dated and the TVs need upgrading. The shower, again, a little dated. We booked a room for three as our adult son has learning disabilities. He was delighted to find he had a separate bedroom with his own, small TV. The rooms were clean, the hotel tidy, and a very good breakfast was included in the price. Overall, good value for money.
Hempstead House Hotel & Restaurant

As a birthday gift, my husband and I were treated to a weekend Afternoon Tea. The whole experience was a complete and utter delight. Prior contact with the Kelly from the Reception team to discuss food restrictions was exceptionally easy and set the tone for an expected nice time ahead - we were not disappointed. There is ample parking at the venue, and on arrival we were welcomed by a friendly Reception team of two, with one personally escorting us to the restaurant. The waiter was polite, friendly and professional - taking good care of us throughout the afternoon, ensuring our food restrictions (due to a liver transplant) were taken care of and our refreshments were kept topped up. The sandwiches, scones and cakes looked enticing and tasted just as delicious as anticipated. Care was taken by the Kitchen team to ensure dietary requirements were followed and it was really appreciated that a lot of thought had gone into the catering. The restaurant was fresh and clean (the tables were spotless) and tables were cleared down quickly and quietly and was hardly noticeable. The other bits of the hotel we walked through/past also looked very clean and tidy. All in all it was a lovely birthday treat and we look forward to returning - either for another afternoon tea, a meal or perhaps an overnight stay!
