Neos Omalos Hotel
4.4/524 Reviews
I knew as soon as I heard goats with their little bells on that I’d like this place. Quiet, quaint, country accomodation on the way to Samaria Gorge. The family who run it were all lovely, and mum even made me up a picnic to take on the hike before dad gave us a lift to the starting point. Maybe it’s because it never happens back home, but I ordered a beer downstairs upon arrival, and got given free olives - that made my absolute day and, though previously incorruptible, my loyalty was bought instantly and totally. I also had the rabbit fry up thingo, which tasted great, although the salad itself was even better, though it curse my carnivorous tongue to say it. The bedroom had a great balcony for looking out over the green and rocky hills. Bed was super comfy, and it actually was a little colder way up in the Omalos elevation (in June) which made sleep come very easily for those like me who run hot. Big fluffy blanket in the cupboard though for those of you who like to be warmer. The bathroom is a bit small and being on the tall end of the height spectrum I had to be wary not to knock myself out on the hand basin when using the toilet. But if you’re under 6 foot you’ll patting your genetics on their small back. The building is relatively old so expect to hear some footfalls as other guests go past your room, but other than that, blissfully quiet overnight. The daughter of the family speaks really good English which helped a couple times, when regretfully I seemed to have forgotten all my Greek (which I rudely hadn’t learned prior to arriving). I can’t recommend this homely hotel enough, so if you’re on your way to hike the gorge, park your car here and stay the night. Then stay in Agia Romelli at the very end of the hike. Then come back to Omalos the next day and get some home style cooking back into your weary body. Or whatever floats your ferry.

Perfect stay in Sitia. Everything was great I arrived at 1.30am and there is a 24h reception. The rooms are clean and big, the bathroom is clean and good shower yet little old. A terrace with city and seaview. A good breakfast included. The rooftop bar with swimmingpool has fantastic views over the bay. Decent restaurant in front of the hotel. Located on the best location. The only negative part was no soundproof walls. I loved my stay there!
Alcanea Boutique Hotel
4.7/564 Reviews
We were warmly welcomed by Eva which set the stage for a wonderful stay at Alcanea Boutique Hotel. Our room was charming and comfortable and we enjoyed using the sitting area in the courtyard. The hotel is well located with a view on the port while set back so that it is not in the bustle pedestrian traffic. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious and special options were prepared for the gluten free and dairy free needs of one diner. Our laundry was done in one day and well organized by the hotel. Next time we need to stay longer!
Niko Seaside Resort Crete - MGallery

Wonderful stay! Not far from the city center, the pools are nice and the staffs are friendly. Breakfast was so good and they even have live musician playing for dinner. Amazing, would definitely recommend to others! Bus station is just ten minutes away from the hotel. Very easy to get here from Agios Nikolaos station. The bus costs only 7.8€ from Héraklion city. Loved every single second of my stay!
Kanso Rooms
4.8/536 Reviews
Upon reading the positive reviews we already had high expectations, but these were surpassed last week. Vassilis and Athanasia were fantastic hosts who were there when you needed them but also left you alone to relax and enjoy. The hotel is located is slightly away from the hustle and bustle from tourist life but is close enough to amenities and a short bus ride away from Chania. They also sell great cocktails and other drinks which can be enjoyed at the poolside. The Garden Suite was as described and kept clean and tidy each day by staff. It was equipped with modern aircon and kitchen facilities. If you’re planning on exploring Crete further we would recommend hiring a car or motorbike and there are spaces to park at Kanso. If not, the buses are cheap, accessible and city tickets can be bought from the local market shop down the road. An extra bonus was the cats and kittens who said hello every evening and made us smile!
Lato Annex Boutique Rooms
4.2/515 Reviews
I had a pleasant 7 night stay here at this accommodation while in Heraklion, Crete. It belongs to the Lato Boutique, which is the main hotel. The Annex is right opposite and required card access to enter. Room was the Economy room (15 sq. metres), a little on the small side, but good enough for a solo traveller. The room was right next to the stairwell and the lift, so there were times I could hear people moving about, but at night it was very quiet, and there were no sleep disruptions. Bed was comfy, air-conditioning was also good. The shower was also good, with shampoo and soap provided, though I noticed it was running a little low towards the end of my stay (i.e., no refills were done). I also appreciated that a luggage rack was provided, along with two bottles of water on check-in day. Fridge was big enough to fit lots of mineral water bottles to keep them cold, which would be a great reprieve in the summer time. Room safe was incredibly huge as well, it can easily store laptops securely, if needed. The elevator door got stuck on the day of check-out, but still worked, so not too big of an issue there. Wi-Fi requires a special code that you can get from the reception. My first code strangely stopped working after two days, but was promptly rectified after I informed the reception of the issue. There were no other connectivity issues for me. The hotel location is pretty near to the Venetian Port, and the Rocca Fortress; it is also walking distance away from the main shopping street in Heraklion and lots of good eating places nearby. There are also supermarkets nearby to get water as well. It does get quiet at night, but I did not encounter any incidents that made me feel unsafe. My room came with buffet breakfast included, which is served in the main building. Breakfast starts service from 7 am onwards, and was generally quite crowded at the start. Depending on the crowd level, the staff will occasionally open up a new section of the dining area. Breakfast was generally good, there was a good spread of American breakfast items, to pastries, ham and cheese and even Greek yogurt with a lot of condiments. It varied a little bit from day-to-day, but was generally the same for the most part.
Semiramis Village

This hotel is rated a 4 star hotel and unfortunately there are a few to many things that let it down and would not consider it to be 4 star it’s more like 3. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a nice man who checked us in. The staff were very pleasant to deal with and welcoming. Unfortunately we were given a room at the highest point of the hotel and there was only a lift to the first floor. We arrived in the afternoon and it was about 34 degree heat which we then had to carry our suitcases up 5 flights of stairs outside with no help from staff. The room was clean and spacious and we were given fresh towels every other day, however the rooms are outdated and need to be refurbished but this didn’t bother us to much. The air conditioning didn’t turn off in our room which did end up being a little bit of a issue as in the night we would wake up freezing cold in the room. The food at this hotel is not 4 star standard. It’s very basic, same type of pasta every day, a small selection of salad, some sort of fish everyday and a different meat but selection was small and basic. The soft drinks machine was occasionally broken and it was usually warm with no ice. Some of us from our group did become unwell and we were convinced it was from the food as we thought that it was reused the next day at lunch. The pool area was okay. Some days it did feel over crowed and we ended up leaving and going to the beach just so we could relax. The walk to the beach was around 20 minutes away which wasn’t to bad however you could get a taxi to malia and they also had a beach. The taxi was €15 each way which we thought was reasonable and you can ask at reception for one. There are no cocktails included in the all inclusive drinks. You can pay to have a cocktail and they were around €7-€9 each. The selection of drinks again is small. Beer, wine and a small selection of spirits. This included vodka, gin, and rum. There was also coffee and tea available at the pool area. They also don’t provide beach towels so make sure to take one or you can buy one from the local shop which was down the road outside the hotel. The location of the hotel is close to malia which was a 15 minute taxi and the other way was hersonissos which again was 15-20 mins away. Be prepared to do a lot of walking as the hotel is up a big hill and then steps to all the rooms. Overall we did enjoy our holiday but the food and drinks selection let it down massively.
Out of the Blue Resort & Spa

Positives Great staff. Good Al a carte restaurants lovely gardens & an amazing setting & views on the peninsula. Daily room cleaning. Didn't think the hotel over crowded but it was out of school holiday times & not all the bars by the pools were open! Making some pools a quiet haven (if you want quiet) Very easy to walk to supermarket & restaurants & bars. Close to bus stop to Heraklion. Negatives This is not a 5 star hotel unless you're looking for more than one pool/spa facilities. Our bungalow room though spacious was in need of an update as are many of the common areas. On all inclusive basis even though 5* it's not what you would see in a 3*in the Caribbean. Drinks (including tea/coffee/water) not updated so you go out & but your own. Only soap/shower gel in bathroom. Bed very hard. Air con good but noisy. Private beach is lovely BUT way over crowded. Conclusion 5* you will be disappointed
Capsis Astoria Heraklion
4.2/592 Reviews
We stayed at the hotel for five nights in July 2022. There were eight of us in total so two families. The location is absolutely perfect as it is right in the middle of Heraklion, opposite the bustling square with its wonderful with its Artisan stalls which are worth visiting and only a short walk to the shops and wonderful selection of restaurants. Heraklion is a truly bustling and Cosmopolitan city. The Hotel is very close to Heraklion Archaeological Museum and a bus or taxi ride to the beach. It is also not too far from the port you can walk there but we took a very quick taxi due to the heat. Upon arrival we were made to feel very welcome and our baggage was taken to our room for us. The reception area is refreshing to walk into from the heat outside and the decor is lovely and very modern with a comfortable seating area. There is a downstairs bar which is very chic with beautiful artwork where you can eat and you can just walk through to the shops outside to have a mooch with is perfect. Our check in process was very smooth and efficient. Check out is at 12 and check in is at 2. We had travelled from Chania by taxi. and were a little early. The gentleman on reception was able to find our group a room to check into while they got our other rooms ready which was very helpful and we did not have to wait too long. We had the economy rooms two different types between us. The ones which have balconies and the ones which are inside but don't have a balcony. The latter were a bit bigger than the ones with the balcony and the children's bed has its own little area which we really liked. The bathroom and room were very clean and the cleaners were very helpful and polite. We had a small fridge all the usual amenities you would expect and the air conditioning always worked well. I really feel (being from the UK) that the hotel represents very good value for the price we paid - if we were to pay a similar price in England we would not be staying in nearly such a nice hotel that's for sure. Certainly not one with a pool on the roof! We absolutely loved the roof area. The pool is quite small (but still big enough to have a lovely, cool swim). The pool area is clean and there are sunbeds and chairs you can sit on around the pool and plenty of place to sunbathe. It is absolutely lovely the perfect place to relax and take in the view. They also have a lifeguard up there at all times which we were not expecting. The pool is open until 8 at night but you can still go up to the roof for drinks and to eat your dinner after this time. They also provide towels for you which is great. The bar on the roof is absolutely excellent and the service is impeccable. The bar staff and waiters and waitresses work so hard and are so friendly (whilst also remaining professional). The bar food is great especially the mini burgers and the club sandwiches are to die for. You can also have dinner up on the roof and there are lots of lovely tables and chairs to chose fro
Flamingo Apartments
4.3/52 Reviews
It's our 4th time back to Crete but the first time we've come east. What can I say, beautiful! We leaned on the Flamingo Apartments, we thought about two nights then we added a third because it is in a very convenient position to visit the east coast. The owner was very kind and helpful, the sea view apartment is perfect. New mattresses, small kitchen which we used for breakfast. Bathroom ok and everything very clean. They come by every day to clean. Convenient parking. Really great! I can only highly recommend it. Ah, he also made us find some welcome sweets in the fridge.
