La Boquilla
We stayed for 3 nights on a last minute trip to Cartagena. The staff was very accommodating to our needs and the room was very nice. There is a small restaurant in the hotel as well..that's what is keeping me from giving 5 stars. The food is fine, but the service was not great. Waited for almost 20 minutes for someone to take our breakfast order. I think they are just understaffed. But overall, I would recommend the hotel. Close to the airport and the beach. Be warned - if you are not familiar with how things work in Cartagena - when you go to the beach, you will be approached by several locals offering all kinds of services - be prepared to pay quite a bit if you accept. If you don't want their services, be insistent or they will not leave you alone!

This place is simply amazing. My girlfriend and I decided to stay here for the first two nights in Colombia and we couldn’t have been happier with our decision. We stayed in the Africa suite - the room was clean, beautifully decorated, and had so much charm. The bed was comfortable and all the amenities were as advertised. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The staff here is truly what deserves a stellar review. We arrived late and even before our arrival, the owner Marcus had responded to us promptly with info about checking in. When we got there - Franc (François) was waiting for us and gave us a quick and thoughtful tour of the BnB and was so kind and informative with any and every question we had. He made the trip for us. Such a wonderful human being. The next morning we had an amazing breakfast that was cooked to perfection and was greeted by their resident tortoise on the premises - such a cute lil guy, as well as Marcus who was just as welcoming and kind as he was on the phone. When we left, Roman was working and set us up with a cab to the bus station and was equally kind and helpful. I could go on - but just do yourself a favor and book this BnB. I’ll be going back the next time I come back to Cartagena - and any time after that.

Well the food was terrible. My husband was sick to his stomach for 2 days. They took care of the cost though. Breakfast was ok. Room was very small especially for travellers with big luggage. We also had no tv for a day and a half out of the two days we were there. Not in Cartagena for tv but it’s nice at night before bed and in the morning. But that never happened. Staff was not that pleasant. We were at the pool bar for a few hours one night. No service hardly at all. The staff was more interested in watching the soccer game than paying customers and being in the restaurant hotel business my whole life that is not acceptable Will never stay again. Location is great though.

La Boquilla
Location: City Center (Old Town Cartagena) is 15 min- 25 min away depending on traffic. If you don't care about seeing old town, then this may be ok. The hotel is located at La Boquilla next to a bad neighborhood, so be aware of people harassing you at the beach at all times, and keep an eye on your belongings. When you leave the hotel always walk to the right towards the city, don't go left or you may find yourself in a very bad location really fast. This is a special note to women traveling to Colombia. Hotel: Clean, food is ok not great, staff was friendly except for the people at the front desk. They seemed to be always busy, and behind their daily duties, so they will rush you, and not give you proper attention, they need at least another person at the front desk at peak hours. Pool is ok, service at the pool was good. They will ask you to provide a pass to get a towel, so don't loose the pass or the towel, you may get charged for it. (Not a fancy systems) Reminds me of hotels in Colombia back in the 80's when towels were a luxury. Beach: Biggest disappointment of the trip, water is dark, and the sand is gray/brown. You cannot see your feet with a foot of water on them. Note that as soon as you come out of the hotel towards the Beach there is a security guard from the Hotel at the door, part of his job is to advised you to watch your belongings, and not to buy anything from beach vendors. This gives you an idea of this beach. Forget about bringing your own umbrella or beach chair, there are vendors that have taken possession of the beach by renting umbrellas and chairs, if you don't rent from them, you will be left out to use a small portion of the beach very close to the water. My advised is to pay the $5 dollars and rent from them. Beach vendor will harass you all day long. Avoid buying food and always ask prices up front before ordering drinks or anything else. There are horror stories of people paying $25 for a Coke. I don't recommend this place for families, or for single women visiting the city, much better options in Bocagrande or Old town. The place is ok for single guys or business. Hope this helps,

The location of the hotel and the environment are excellent, but the front desk staff is too bad, not as good as domestic, two rooms, one check-in for 2 hours, and one check-in for five hours. Check out inexplicably, there was an extra bill in the room. I chatted with the same Chinese who checked out and said that this was normal. He misremembered his consumption in other rooms. Fortunately, I found that it was changed back. It was too ink...

Excellent hotel and staff. Brand new with some amazing art work and decor. The view and ambience is simply beautiful. The only one problem I have which I know is being addressed is the last 1/2 drive to the hotel is literally thru some rough unpaved road which can make you car sick if you suffer from motion sickness. Besides that which I said is being addressed a must visit to relax and be one with nature if you are in Cartagena

Excellent attention, always respectful staff, beautiful place, very good cleaning and never bad face or bad gesture. All the excellent staff I liked the location, mini super and a large number of pharmacies in the surroundings of Burger King when crossing the street as well as Starbucks, Mac Donald's 100 metres, KFC 50 metres, The hotel is located 200 metres away and a wide variety of restaurants.
