This historic hotel, while having somewhat outdated facilities and no phone charging stations, boasts excellent service and food 👍. A nine-hole golf course is right in front, free for hotel guests. Just inside the forest are the hotel's three hot spring pools, each with a different temperature! After a relaxing soak, you can enjoy a wonderful night's sleep!
super affordable. my room was really clean and the facilities like showers and kitchen was clean too. it was off season so not much crowd, plenty of space in the fridge for my food. Room had everything i needed, including a fan. Laundry services were slightly pricey at $6/wash and $6/dry, bring your own detergent, or buy some during store hours at the little shop near checkin. no vending machine for it! really rocky beach right behind the property, had loads of fun just hanging around.
The scenery is unique! The eldest brother is also very enthusiastic ~ everything is great! Suitable for bringing children to play ~ swimming pool, it will be very comfortable in summer ~ the surrounding is quiet. If you go, it is recommended to bring more food up the mountain ~ the experience is better
Facilities: We stayed in a stand-alone cabin, which was fully equipped with a private bathroom, induction cooktop, oven, etc., but it was a bit dated.
Hygiene: The hygiene was just so-so, and there was a strong cooking smell in the room.
Environment: There's a communal kitchen, shared bathrooms, and a paid hot spring center (guests get a discount).
Service: We didn't really use any services; late arrivals check themselves in.
As soon as you enter the magnificent hot spring resort, you will see lush vegetation and the air is full of fresh grass and wood fragrance. Along the winding paths, there are colorful flowers. The guest rooms are designed to be both comfortable and beautiful, with elegant and warm decoration, and it is very comfortable to stay.
Reception was wonderfully nice, and she could converse with me in two out of her three languages. Amazing.
Clean and tidy well run place. Very comfortable in ”my little trailor” which reminded me of Sapelo Island Georgia.
It is indeed an older MOTEL, but in fact, it is similar to the local ones. The advantage is that the location is very good. It is right by the lake. In the morning, you can see the beautiful scenery of the lake and see the ducks. The service is really hard to say enough. On the day of arrival, around 1 o'clock, I went to the old lady at the front desk and asked to check in. She was rejected without saying anything. The reason was that she felt unwell and had to get off work, so she asked me to go to the front desk of the hotel next door if I had something to do. I asked if there is a room available now? If two elderly people and one child could be given a room to rest first, they would directly refuse and say that there is no room available at the moment. Come back after 3 o'clock and I have to go home from get off work! I was angry but had no choice but to go to the hotel next door. The same problem was reported. The hotel was immediately shocked and apologized, saying how could an old lady treat a customer like this? They immediately gave me a room and upgraded it to a lake view room. It rained heavily the next day and I couldn't go there. It was best to stay in the room and watch the lake view and feed the ducks.
Always a good overall stay at Wairakei, I’ve found they have a variety of rooms to suit all travellers and I’ve found the one that works for me. Got a great deal and it was a simple and easy stay. Will be back in future. Great amenities including the heated thermal pool and free parking.
They are all very good. It would be perfect if they had a private bathroom. However, this is the only room we can book in that area, so we are very grateful!

AAnonymous UserThe name may give you some illusions, but it is actually a standard motel. Many rooms are hard to find at night, but the location is good, close to the lake. The interior of the room is standard and the hygiene is good.

GGuest UserWe had a wonderful stay at the hostel. The staff were very friendly and gave us a thorough introduction to the hostel, including its lovely animal residents, like baby lambs, deer, pig, and horse. A highlight of my stay was the chance to feed the baby lamb, which was a truly memorable experience! The facilities are basic, but everything is in good working order and covers the essentials. The bedding was clean, and they provided a clear wall guide on how to set it up, which was helpful and a nice touch. Overall, it was a cozy, enjoyable stay, and we would definitely recommend it to others!

TTravelerSGWe had a wonderful, quiet & undisturbed stay at the Anglers Lodge. The place is tranquil and was not crowded, so we really enjoyed the spacious grounds of the Lodge. The communal kitchen and bathroom facilities were super clean. Overall very well maintained. The pool and games room were much fun for the children. We did fishing at the bay right outside the Lodge. There is minimum 15-20min drive out from the Lodge to Coromandel and the Peninsula.
GGuest UserA good first stop over for our campervan trip as it is 1hr away from auckland airport. We checked in after opening hours (they close pretty early) but we could easily find our way and the check in instructions were clear and easy.
Plenty of flies attracted to light at the campsite. Our camper was filled with flies and spent a long time chasing them away. So do be careful when turning on the lights when moving in and out of the camper.
GGuest UserThe hotel is about 2.5km from the Hamilton train station. We took a taxi from the train station, and the driver charged us NZD25. My booking confirmation said that the check out time was 11:00, but the hotel insisted it should be 10:00 which is fine. The booking confirmation clearly say that breakfast was free, but the hotel tried to charge 13 pp. Hamilton is a nice place which is close to Waitomo and Hobbiton.
