Just pulled up to the hotel and — plot twist — our room wasn’t ready. Shocking, I know. They’d just survived the Water Festival the day before, so the place was probably still half-drowned and hungover.
The receptionist dude was an absolute saint. His female colleague, however… let’s just say she was clearly auditioning for the role of “Cranky Receptionist from Hell.” I’m 99% sure she was on her period and the other 1% was pure personality.
Thankfully they upgraded us, which was nice. I never saw the original room, so for all I know they moved us from a broom closet to a slightly larger broom closet with a view. Speaking of which — the view? Legit fire. The room itself? Clean enough. Dry sink area: spotless. Toilet: sparkling.
Then came the shower — oh boy. It started off promising, like a decent enough setup… until my girlfriend jumped in. Five minutes later the hot water ghosted her mid-shampoo like a bad Tinder date. One second she’s happily singing, next second she’s screaming like she just got waterboarded by ice cubes. I’ve stayed in fancier bathrooms in Mexican motels that still had bullet holes in the walls and more reliable plumbing.
Breakfast was… breakfast. The kind of “basic” that makes you nostalgic for airplane food. But hey, they gave us more bottled water than a doomsday prepper’s basement, so points for hydration.
We were only there for two nights — in and out like a cheap Tinder date. Would I go back?
Big fat question mark with a side of “probably not even if they paid me.” ⁉️

The owner gave us a free room upgrade. The room was very spacious, equipped with both a heater and a cooler. The owner waited for our van to arrive, greeted us by the roadside, and was ready with umbrellas because of the light drizzle. He then guided us straight into the hotel walkway. It is only a 30-meter walk from the Didi drop-off point. He served us hot tea, oranges, and Chinese tea to help ease our mountain sickness. He always asked if we needed anything. The interior design is traditional. The building has 3 floors, and you can carry your bags up the stairs. It is not too high, even though there is no elevator. The view from the rooftop is very classic, looking just like a scene from an ancient Chinese drama, with a beautiful view of the mountains. It is also within walking distance (just 100 meters) to halal restaurants and the Lijiang Ancient City North Gate. Free laundry service is available.

Fantastic location and warm service made my Lijiang experience truly exceptional. I'd love to come back to witness the beautiful 'sunrise over the golden mountain' again.
【Snow Mountain View】Afternoon Tea: The owner personally selected this Dianhong tea from the tea plantation. Even I, who don't usually drink tea, fell in love with it.

The room was clean, tidy, and quiet, making for a very comfortable stay. The service attitude was impeccable – absolutely fantastic! They thoughtfully prepared cutlery and a high chair for our child, making it perfect for family travel. Every time we saw a staff member, they would smile and greet us, actively offering assistance. Upon checkout, they even gave us black tea as a souvenir and two roly-poly toys. It was a superb stay! (I forgot to take photos of the hotel, but it's super close to Jinma Fang, which is very convenient for shopping and dining. Highly recommend it!)

The hotel's location is great, very convenient for going to the night market. The view is also good, and you can even take a bath. The guy at the front desk was very enthusiastic. Before this, I stayed somewhere else in Gaozhuang on the 2nd floor, and it was noisy at night. Moving to the 22nd floor here is better at night, but it's still a bit noisy. There's nothing to be done, the whole of Gaozhuang is lively at night.

We loved it here! The location is excellent, it's clean, and the facilities are complete. Although the reception staff didn't speak English, it wasn't a problem because we could easily communicate via WeChat, and they took great care of me. The bathroom has separate shower and toilet areas, and importantly, a bidet (though the pressure wasn't very strong, it was better than many hotels that don't have one). They also provide bottled water, and you can ask for more. The beds were very comfortable. Overall, if I have the opportunity to return to Kunming, I would definitely choose to stay here again and would happily recommend it to others. There might be a slight cigarette smell for those with a sensitive nose, but it's not noticeable for those who aren't bothered by it. The lighting in the room is beautiful, making for great photos.
This stay was absolutely fantastic, five stars for sure! The hotel's location is truly unbeatable – right next to the subway station, making getting around incredibly convenient. It's also just a short walk to Dounan Flower Market, so browsing and buying flowers is super easy. It's the perfect spot for tourists.
Parking at the hotel was a breeze, with plenty of spaces available, so if you're driving, you won't have to worry about finding a spot. The room was clean and tidy, and the housekeeping was excellent. I especially appreciated the thoughtful details, like the disposable facial towels and bath towels – so hygienic and convenient, meaning I didn't need to bring my own toiletries, which lightened my luggage considerably.
The hotel environment was quiet and comfortable, and the bedding was soft, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. The front desk staff were warm, attentive, friendly, and patient. Overall, the value for money is excellent. It's a great choice whether you're visiting the flower market or on a short trip. My experience was perfect, and I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time and highly recommend it to everyone!

The Hotel is in the Old Town, only 150m to the Chongwen Pagoda. The room is perfectly clean and they also cleaned it every day. We had a really comfortable bed and slept well.
Our highlight were the hosts. They were really helpfull, invited ous for the local homemade tofu dinner and organized our following transport. We felt really welcome in the hotel!
This hotel is absolutely fantastic! The location is easy to find, and parking is convenient. The room was larger than expected, and the minimalist decor was perfect for photos. Most importantly, the cleanliness was impeccable; as someone who's particular about hygiene, I was extremely satisfied and have to give it a great review! Usually, I'm quite picky about hotel cleanliness, but this time I couldn't find a single flaw. You could tell the sheets and duvet covers were freshly changed, and there were no water stains or hair in the bathroom corners. The room had excellent soundproofing, and the blackout curtains were superb, allowing me to sleep until I woke up naturally. You can really feel the owner's dedication. Check-in at the front desk was super fast, full marks for efficiency. It's excellent value for money, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

The hotel environment is fantastic, with many hot spring pools and lots of trees, plus a variety of small animals. Our room had floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, and we could even project movies. There's also a small private courtyard outside for a personal hot spring bath, which was amazing. The front desk staff were very attentive and detailed in their service, which was excellent.
However, there was a minor flaw: there was no toilet paper holder in the restroom. The toilet paper was placed next to the sink outside the door, meaning you had to stand up to reach it, which was quite awkward.

I am Delightfully Amazed by this renowned famous Banyan Tree Hotel. It is such a Beautifully Constructed Hotel with West Lake like Environment surrounding with Villas giving you a Big Beautiful Chinese style Garden Ambience. I am lucky to get a Free Upgrade to a Villa with Swimming Pools and Jade Dragon Mountain View right in front of Bedroom with a Garden (many thanks to their front office staffs). What impressed me the Most is all their Staffs are so Well Trained on All the Details Focusing on giving you the Best Services that Anyone would ask for. 5 Stars to their Top Management Direction, Management Implementation, All Ground Staffs Dedication to giving World Class Services. Their Restaurant Foods Quality is also very Good and at very Reasonable Pricing for a 5 Stars Restaurant. Do get their Restaurant Breakfast Package which is really Worth it for their Variety and Good Quality Foods. I will highly Recommend this Hotel for anyone that is Visiting Lijiang as even their Location is Perfect at the Middle of the 3 ancient towns so traveling around is within 10-25mins and away from the noisy busy ancient towns. It's my first time spending so much time and efforts to give this honest review because i simply think the Whole Banyan Tree Team deserves it. Impressed, Amazing, Enjoyable, Enchanting, Great Experience, It's a Only Hotel that I will Stay in Lijiang (i cancelled other hotel and extended another 2 more days in Banyan Tree)
very nice hotel with super duper friendly staff and fabulous service. they tried to accommodate to anything we need. views were suberb as well. cleanliness was tiptop, well stocked with amenities. definitely will stay again/ recommend to friends.
We had amazing 3 days here in the hotel thanks to Paul and the staff lady (Xiaosu). They answered all of our questions, gave awesome recommendations, and took care of us from the little details. Room is very clean, tidy with an amazing rooftop view. Definitely recommend!
My group of 6 senior ladies had a wonderful time at this quaint boutique inn in the Old Town of Lijiang - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We were especially impressed by the warm & friendly hospitality of the young hotel owner who met us outside the Old Town gate to help us maneuver the cobbled paths (vehicles not allowed inside.) On entering the inn, we felt a sense of homecoming. The courtyard style was well preserved and the rooms were comfortable & welcoming. As the inn has only 6 bedrooms, do book early - we highly recommend it!
Staying here at a guesthouse instead of a hotel has been the best choice I’ve made. From arrival, the people of the guesthouse has been very welcoming and warm. They gave travel recommendations based on what you are planning to do in the city. Warm tea is always available at any time, from morning till night. Very recommended for friends, couples or people who are seeking for a relaxing trip.
”The best spot in Lijiang! Views: Unbeatable views of the mountain and old town. Location: Prime spot and very easy to access by car. Service: Super friendly staff. Highly recommended!”
Excellent place for a family retreat. Located in a quiet alley yet steps away from the bustling main street, Guan Xin offers great accommodation and personal attention to our needs. The rooms are well designed and spacious. We only have good things to say after staying here for 3 nights for a family outing for 11 pax. The manager in charge - Ah Yang, is exceptionally helpful and made our stay extra special. Highly recommended. 「下午茶」双人下午茶: tea and rose biscuits 「甜品」到店赠送: Tremella Soup
The host is very friendly. Shown us around. The hotel has a great view for the snow mountain. Location is great, in the middle of the ancient city. It's also a family friendly hotel with pet dogs and cats.
I had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse in Lijiang. The balcony overlooking the river was absolutely beautiful — even though it was December, the sun was warm and I could sit outside, drink tea, and just enjoy the atmosphere. I really loved this vibe. The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming. As I was traveling solo, she shared tea with me, cooked dinner just for me, and we spent time together talking through a translation app. It felt like visiting a friend. She went out of her way to help me with everything. She made sure I knew the easiest way to get to my bus stop in the morning, shared tips about the best restaurants and a sunrise spot that only locals seem to know. She even showed me three different rooms and told me I could switch if I preferred another one. I would come back here without hesitation — 100% recommended.
