The lobby makes a strong first impression with its tasteful, contemporary design—very much in line with what seasoned travelers appreciate after a long journey.
Location-wise, the hotel is a solid choice. Being close to the train station and surrounded by local food options made getting around and finding good meals effortless.
That said, the 5pm check-in time is noticeably later than usual and can be inconvenient if you arrive early. I passed the time at the restaurant and bar next to the lobby, taking advantage of their Happy Hour, which helped. A nice touch was the self-service luggage storage area—practical and traveler-friendly.
I stayed in a corner room. The room itself was fine: clean, functional, and simple, as expected of many Japanese hotels. The view, however, was unremarkable.
I also tried the public bath. It was reasonably sized and, thankfully, not too crowded during my visit, making it a relaxing experience.
Service was a bit cool at first, though it improved as the stay went on.
Overall, I would consider returning, especially when traveling as a couple.

I didn't have high expectations when staying in a capsule hotel. But this particular capsule hotel surprised me. The capsule is spacious and easy to get into. Everything inside is equipped like a luxury train: water, daily bed linens, a phone shelf, light switches, an alarm clock, a TV, hooks, and an electrical outlet. There's a bathhouse on the sixth floor and two floors above. I went every day and thoroughly enjoyed it. The all-inclusive package is fantastic: you only bring yourself to the bathhouse, and everything else is provided, including disposable shaving kit. The hotel also provides pajamas for you to wear while inside the hotel. The buffet breakfasts are delicious, kaiseki-style. The excellent location in the Gion district is also worth mentioning. Everything is within walking distance, or transportation is nearby. The Geisha Theater is around the corner. A few minor downsides: the capsule only has a Japanese-style outlet, and the large EU adapter won't fit. Tourist tax isn't included. But this doesn't detract from the overall experience. I was delighted. Thank you! I highly recommend it and will definitely stay there again.

The hotel is conveniently located between Gojo and Shijo subway stations, slightly closer to Gojo. However, these two stations are quite close anyway, so walking to either is perfectly acceptable. A taxi to Kyoto Station costs around 2000 JPY. The hotel itself is clean and tidy, and the front desk staff speak fluent English, making communication a breeze. Both check-in and check-out were very efficient. The comfortable twin room features a wet and dry separation in the bathroom, which makes toiletries more convenient and reduces disturbance. The soundproofing of the windows is excellent; you can barely hear any outside noise, though an occasional siren is unavoidable. The room was cleaned daily, and amenities were well-stocked. The only slight letdown was the breakfast; while the quality was good, it was exactly the same for four consecutive days. More variety would have been a definite improvement.

Love the hotel room and location! However, when we arrived, we were asked to pay an extra 34,200 yen for the room. We were told that our booking through Trip.com was for 1 guest only despite the room, a Comfort Tatami Twin Room with Terrace, being equipped with 2 single bedrooms. We had paid slightly above 80,000 yen for 4 nights of stay at the hotel, so the extra charge of 32,600 yen (34,000 - 1,600 room tax) was excessive. The extra change made our average room rate per night more than 1.5 times the rates they were advertising on *********** during our stay for the same room type. Since our booking is no longer refundable when we checked in, we had no choice but to pay the extra charge.
The room was quite spacious, and the bathroom was clean. There's a microwave and a dining area on the first floor. The only downside is there's no luggage rack. The location is super convenient, very close to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Sannenzaka/Ninenzaka. There are also bus, tram, and JR stations nearby.

Love the location and the peace in Arashiyama. Nice place to relax after a very busy week visiting places in Osaka and Kyoto. Love the private bath in the room we booked❤️ plus the private onsen bath especially if you have tattoo. Who doesn’t love a free ice cream/cold green tea after onsen😄 and don’t miss the free ramen from 22:30-23:30 😊 lastly, the staff are really nice, helpful, and the Japanese breakfast was very tasty! Beautiful experience and now we are well rested to visit other places in Japan!

The hotel is very close to Kyoto Station, and there's a convenience store downstairs. The hot spring is a highlight, and the hotel breakfast is also delicious. The sashimi rice bowl is one of their specialties. I'll definitely choose this place again on my next visit.
I stayed for 4 nights from January 4 to January 8, 2026.
From the hotel, you can walk to Nijo Castle in about 10 minutes. There are many small convenience stores nearby (7-Eleven and the like), as well as two large supermarkets — Life is open until midnight, which is a huge plus. You can buy nice gifts for friends and family late in the evening without wasting daytime hours.
The transportation access is great too: within a few minutes' walk there's a subway station and a JR line (convenient for coming from the railway station), and right next to the hotel there's a bus stop. This is important because Kyoto's sights are scattered all over the city, and you often need to use public transport or taxis.
Speaking of taxis. Twice I asked the reception to call me a taxi, and both times the staff helped me — a huge thank you to them! It was especially important on the first day: thanks to a taxi, I made it to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in time and explored it without rushing.
Check-in was very quick, and the staff explained where everything was.
The room was quite spacious — or maybe it just felt that way. I comfortably unpacked my suitcase and took out everything I needed without feeling cramped. The room had all the essentials, and there were kettles near the elevator that you could take to your room if needed. I did, and had some tea before bed (on the first floor, you can grab a free tea bag if you don't have your own).
The air conditioner worked for both cooling and heating — which was very useful on some evenings. Honestly, I only used the hotel to sleep, and it was perfectly fine.
Every morning, breakfast is served on the first floor. To be honest, I expected something simple since the room rate was quite affordable. That's why the breakfast was such a pleasant surprise! My eyes wandered every morning at the variety of delicious food! A huge selection. Every day I had rice with various toppings, amazing salmon, cod, and various vegetables (the okra here was especially good).
There's a small smoking room on the first floor with good ventilation.
My overall impression of the hotel is extremely positive. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Kyoto.
It is located next to the train station, which is very convenient, and it is only 20 minutes from Tokyo.
Surrounded by supermarkets and restaurants, but you can feel the local vibes here.
The check-in is quick and pleasant, as you can expect from the Japanese service.
The room came with breakfast and access to the Onsen, but I didn't have the chance to use it. There are laundry machines available on the lobby floor.
Breakfast is nice and delicious, but seating may be limited.
The staff are nice and welcoming.

This is my second stay here. My previous booking was direct through their official website, but I found a better deal on Ctrip this time. A unique feature of this place is the opportunity to attend the temple's morning service and listen to Japanese monks chanting. What's more, it's conveniently located very close to popular attractions, making it incredibly easy to explore on foot.

GGuest UserEverything was superb with the one exception, for an onsen hotel that have one of the selling point, in room onsen bath, the water was just regular hot water, why would I need to stay at an onsen hotel with in room onsen bath if any bathtub with hot water would do? Trip.com site did not specify that it wasn’t hot spring water. But luckily there was a better room with actual hot spring water supplied to the room available for upgrade, so I spent the extra to make my stay absolutely perfectly memorable.

GGuest UserThe hotel's location is fantastic! The design is also very modern and forward-thinking. The front desk and concierge staff were all incredibly enthusiastic and always attentive to whether we needed any assistance. It was a very satisfying stay. We stayed in Japan for 7 nights and switched between 3 hotels, and this was by far the most satisfying five-star hotel experience!

IIRADAThough the hotel itself is good (I’m staying here for a second time), this time the service was awful.1) went to breakfast, me and my friend ordered 2 dishes, when in 20 mins time there still was nothing, we reminded a waitress of our order… another 20 mins - still nothing. All in all we spent 40 mins at the breakfast restaurant and didn’t get our food. When we explained this to the hostess she just said “sorry” and we left the restaurant hungry. 2) ordered afternoon tea for 3 persons (afternoon tea is served at another restaurant at the hotel). 2 normal sets and 1 for a person who doesn’t like dairy products. That person is me. I explained that I have no allergy, I just don’t like the taste of milk, cheese, et cetera. So I’m fine with bread and with sweets, just not the ones that have cheese on top. In the end instead of the sweets they brought me a fruit platter (that’s all, my friends got a lot of different sweets), when I again explained to the hostess that I’m fine with sweets (sweet bread) and would like to eat the sweets included in the afternoon tea set she just said that they “prepared smth else” for me (she meant the fruit platter). No apology no anything. Mind you, I ordered afternoon tea last year at this same place - everything was alright! As this is a 5 star hotel and everything here is rather expensive (including breakfast and afternoon tea) this is unacceptable level if service.

GGuest UserThis hotel exceeded my expectations! The room was larger than average and exceptionally clean, with a separate shower and bathtub. The Refa showerhead and hairdryer were a nice touch and worked great. The room had modern amenities, and the trash bins were emptied promptly.
The hotel's location is super convenient. There are many designer shops and delicious restaurants nearby, and it's just a short walk to Nishiki Market. Karasuma Oike Station is also right next door, offering direct access to Shijo and Kyoto Station. I was really satisfied with my stay; it offers excellent value for money!
I highly recommend the wagyu BBQ restaurant next to the hotel (Wagyu Yakiniku Horumon Sankichi). The owner and staff were very friendly, the wagyu quality was superb, and the set menus were great value, plus you can enjoy all-you-can-drink!
CChengchengyipianThe hotel entrance isn't huge, but the 4th-floor reception area has a wonderful design with lots of greenery, bringing you closer to nature. It's a really comfortable spot to just sit and relax.
The room itself is spacious and comfortable, and importantly, it has a small balcony that lets in natural breezes. Having fresh, circulating air in the room is incredibly important to me.
There was a short-haired lady at the front desk who was exceptionally kind and thoughtful. When I checked my luggage, she noticed that what I'd bought was a cream roll and thoughtfully offered to refrigerate it for me. She also gave us a warm farewell when we left. Although I'm not entirely sure if she was trying to communicate with me in Chinese because I couldn't hear very well with her mask on.
There are some downsides, though. Even on the 8th floor, I was still bothered by motorcycle noise every night. I'm a light sleeper by nature, so I didn't get good rest those two nights.
JJackyThe hotel is in a great location, with the Kamogawa River just outside the window, and a panoramic view of the cherry blossoms along the river. The Mizuki is especially delicious, and we were not satisfied even after two dinners in a row. The service and hygiene are impeccable, and except for the higher prices during the cherry blossom season, there is really no complaint.
AadolalalalaThe front desk staff speaks fluent English, and there were quite a few Western guests during my stay. For the cherry blossom season, the value for money was pretty good. The room was relatively spacious compared to other Japanese hotels. Rooms facing the street can be a bit noisy late at night. Breakfast leans towards a Western style. It's very close to the subway, just a short walk to the Kamo River, and a five-minute walk to the lively areas of Sanjo and Shijo. Overall, it's a decent place.
AAnonymous UserOur recent stay at Ujo Soan was, without exaggeration, the finest hospitality experience I have encountered in my 20 years of traveling across Japan. From the moment we arrived, the level of service was nothing short of superb.
There are three highlights that made our stay truly unforgettable:
1. Exceptional Culinary Surprise: We were deeply touched by the hotel's generosity in providing a complimentary upgrade to the prestigious ”Tsuiyama Blue Label Crab” set. The quality of the crab and the meticulous preparation were world-class—a true gastronomic journey.
2. Breathtaking Sunset Views: Spending time at the Lounge ”AO” on the 8th floor of Bettei Fuka was a spiritual experience. Watching the sunset over the Kyotango coastline with a drink in hand is a memory we will cherish forever.
3. Outstanding Service (Sakura-san): A special mention must go to Sakura-san. Her professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail were exemplary. She anticipated our every need and represents the very best of Japanese Omotenashi.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Mr. Yasuhiko Okita and the General Manager, Mr. Nakanishi, for maintaining such an incredible standard of excellence.
If you are looking for a sanctuary that combines luxury, nature, and heartfelt service, Ujo Soan is the only choice. We cannot wait to return.
