Carolus Thermen is divided into two main functional areas. The public thermal bath area features multiple indoor and outdoor pools and a series of thermal pools, with water sourced from the Rosenspring in the city center. The main bath area features a magnificent glass roof supported by 18 pillars, which is bright and airy during the day and creates a dreamlike atmosphere with lighting at night. The stone pillars or niches on the front of Aachen City Hall are carved with full-length portraits of German emperors of all dynasties. The entire building is magnificent and elegant, and has an extraordinary momentum. Many emperors also held banquets or held meetings in the coronation hall of the city hall.
