Mount Eden

4.6/5
508 reviews
Mount Eden is a dormant volcano located a few kilometers south of downtown Auckland. It has an elevation of about 196 m, formed by the successive eruptions of three craters. The most recent eruption is estimated to have occurred tens of thousands of years ago, leaving behind a bowl-shaped crater at the summit that is about 50 m deep. The crater floor is covered in lush green grass, looking from afar like a giant bowl filled with greenery turned upside down amidst the city. From the parking lot at the foot of the mountain, follow the gentle trail uphill. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the crater rim. A circular wooden boardwalk runs along the rim, with the deep volcanic crater on one side and a panoramic view of the city on the other. The Māori people once built a fortified village here, and the remains of terraced fields and sweet potato storage pits on the slopes are still visible today.Auckland · 4.5km from downtown

Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill, whose green spaces connect with Cornwall Park, are often considered one large park andare a great place for a leisurely stroll. It was formed by a volcanic eruption tens of thousands of years ago and stands approx. 180m tall, with a complete crater still preserved at the summit. The mountain's name comes from a single tree that once stood alone on the summit, which was vandalized in 1994 and 2000 and was eventually removed as it could not be saved. Several native saplings were planted on the summit in 2016, and only one will be kept once they grow to continue the "One Tree" name. Today, an obelisk commemorating the Māori people and a bronze statue of a Māori warrior stand at the summit, and the terraced remains on the slopes are remnants left by the early Māori settlers when they built their settlements.Auckland · 6.2km from downtown

Muriwai Gannet Colony is located at the southern end of Muriwai Beach on the west coast of Auckland, about a 1-hour drive from the city center. It covers a vast area and is one of the few places in New Zealand where you can see wild gannets up close on land. The habitat extends from the cliff top to two steep offshore islands. A short walk along the cliff-top trail from the parking lot leads to the viewing platform, where you can see the dense nests right before your eyes. From August to March of the following year, thousands of pairs of gannets nest and raise their chicks here. Nests are often only a few centimeters apart, yet the gannets can circle and slow down in the air, avoid the sharp beaks of neighboring birds, and land steadily back at their own nests. The island has a wide black sand beach. The fine sand is black due to iron content from ancient volcanoes and stretches for dozens of km to the north, making it one of the famous black sand beaches on Auckland's west coast.Muriwai · 884m from downtown

Auckland Domain was established as a public green space as early as the 1840s. The entire park covers over 70 hectares and is situated on the remnants of a volcanic crater from an eruption about 100,000 years ago, with open lawns and sports fields spreading across the crater floor and the undulating terrain itself serving as a highlight. Auckland War Memorial Museum stands prominently on the high ground at the edge of the crater and serves as the landmark of the entire park, housing collections of Māori and Pacific culture, natural specimens, and war history archives; on the north side of the hill, the Wintergardens feature two large glass greenhouses, each cultivating tropical and temperate plants, with a fernery nearby that was converted from an old quarry. It also feels more like an open-air living room for Aucklanders, with cultural activities such as open-air concerts often held around the lawns and band rotunda in summer.Auckland · 1.6km from downtown

Auckland Sailing Club, located in a swamp surrounded by water, locals love to play, swim, surf, sail, slide, or dive in to catch fish. People refer to Aucklanders as thinking about the three "Bs" all day long: the beach, the boat, and the barbecue. 1. Auckland Anniversary Regatta The Auckland Yacht Club's annual sports focus is the Auckland Anniversary Regatta, which is held at the end of January each year. There are more than 1,000 sailing boats participating in a wide variety of yachts ranging from two-meter yachts to thirty-meter-long yachts. Boats, all racing in Waitematam port. The America's Cup is held every four years. Together with the Men's Football World Cup and the tennis Davis Cup, it is known as the "Three World Cups" by the world. New Zealand won the 29th America's Cup in 1995, and then successfully defended its title at the 30th America's Cup in 1999. Sailing has almost become a sport that New Zealanders are extremely proud of. 2. Qianfan Athletics came to the port of the club and looked around, and knew that Auckland's reputation as the "capital of sailing boats" was not justified. The slender masts of the sailboats and the sky towers and buildings in the background formed a unique city. borderline. The moored large and small sailboats and yachts are densely packed and of various types. It is truly a thousand sails competition, which is extremely spectacular.Auckland · 4.4km from downtown

Highlights: One Tree Hill Park is open to the public free of charge. It is lush with trees, pleasant scenery, and pastoral scenery. There are herds of cattle and sheep, pheasants, and various birds. People often do morning exercises or walks here. In particular, there is the intoxicating cherry blossom forest, which is a good place to enjoy cherry blossoms in Auckland every spring.

The Harbour Bridge is the largest bridge connecting the two banks of Auckland. It is also a unique cross-sea bridge. The entire bridge is a reinforced concrete structure with a very long span. It is also a great place to visit and take pictures. The night view is very good.

The main street in the center of Auckland, a major city on New Zealand's North Island. Administrative agencies and businesses are scattered all over the street, as well as various food stores. The Sky Tower is also next to it, and the University of Auckland is also next to it. At the end, there are many sailboats parked in the Auckland Harbor. It is very comfortable to blow the sea breeze.

The kids loved it, it was great! Although it was a bit boring on the way because it took more than an hour to drive, it was worth it when we got there! The beach, gannets, the sea, everything, it was great. At the end of the trip, the kids could play in a play gound for a while, it was fun!!! The only small drawback was that the bird droppings were a bit smelly.

Auckland Central Park is not like the common landscape parks in the city. It is more like a natural forest. The winding tree-lined paths and the tall trees on both sides make you feel like you are walking into the original green field, with thick fallen leaves and soft soil under your feet. The air is filled with the fragrance of plants, which is very suitable for jogging, walking the dog or just taking a quiet walk. There are also several sculptures and small bridges hidden along the way, which adds a little fun. Although it is not far from the city, you can completely escape the rhythm of the city once you enter the park.

Auckland, known as the "City of a Thousand Sails", West Heaven Harbor, is said to be the venue for the "America's Cup", the world's largest sailing competition. It is said that these sailboats cost hundreds of millions of dollars. The blue sky, white clouds, blue sea and white sailboats are very beautiful. You can also see the German-built cross-sea bridge.

We visited this hotel on a weekend evening last summer with the idea of watching the sunset over fish and chips. This plan went wrong when we discovered that all nearby food was only serving ice cream as all kitchens were closed for the season! The beach was very interesting with the sunset climbing over the dunes and the long white clouds symbolizing New Zealand on the horizon. A few brave men in wetsuits were out surfing and others were walking their dogs on the beach.

I would highly recommend visiting the Auckland Art Gallery as the exhibitions are thoughtfully curated and features both permanent and non permanent collection. We love the inspiring art by Robin White at the time we visited last December. There's a cafe and art shop where you can purchase unique crafts and souvenirs. Entrance is absolutely free.
