Icefields Parkway

Icefields Parkwayis a scenic highway in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada, also known as Highway 93. It runs from Lake Louise in the south to the town of Jasper in the north, traversing both Banff and Jasper national parks. The entire route spans over 200 km, with the road traveling primarily through mountainous terrain at an elevation of over 1,500 m. On one side of the road are snow-capped mountains and glaciers, while the other side connects to lakes, forests, and meadows. Along the way, you can see hundreds of glaciers and snow-capped peaks over 3,000 m high, making it one of the most famous scenic highways in North America. Icefields Parkwayhighlights are concentrated in the densely distributed glacial lakes and stops along the way. Peyto Lake displays a rich blue-green hue due to glacial rock flour suspended in the water, and when viewed from the observation deck, the lake shape resembles a wolf's head. Bow Lake is the source of the Bow River, and when the lake surface is calm in the early morning, the reflections of the snow-capped mountains are clear. Hector Lake, Herbert Lake, Mistaya Canyon, Crowfoot Glacier, Athabasca Falls, and Sunwapta Falls are also located right next to the highway. The Columbia Icefield area in the middle section is the highlight of the entire journey, where you can see the Athabasca Glacier cascading down from between the snow-capped peaks right from the roadside. Wildlife such as elk, bighorn sheep, and black bears are also frequently spotted along the way.Canada · Improvement District No. 9

Johnston Canyon

Johnston Canyonis located along the Bow Valley Parkway between Banff and Lake Louise. It was formed by streams cutting through rock layers over many years. The canyon features steep cliffs and the constant sound of water, with waterfalls being the core highlight of the entire trail. The trail is built along the rock walls, with some sections consisting of catwalks suspended above the canyon, with rushing water right beneath your feet. The path hugs the cliff as it goes deep into the canyon floor, offering a highly distinctive cliff-side walking experience. The trail connects three highlights from near to far: walk approx. 1 km to reach the Lower Falls, where water plunges through a narrow crevice, and the cave viewing point next to the waterfall is a popular photo spot; continue forward to the Upper Falls, which has a larger drop, approx. 2.5 km one-way with a gentle incline, making it easy for most people to complete; if you have enough energy, you can go deeper into the forest meadows to visit the blue-green Ink Pots, approx. 5 km one-way, and you should allow half a day for the round trip. In summer, the canyon is lush and full of water, while in winter, the waterfalls freeze into ice falls and the cliffs are covered in frost. Ice climbers are often seen climbing the ice falls, making this a representative route for ice and snow hiking in the Banff area.Improvement District No. 9 · 20.2km from Banff

Johnson Lake is a lake in Banff National Park. The environment here is beautiful. The emerald lake is like a gem embedded in the dark green coniferous forest. The elevation of Johnson Lake is very low, and the hiking trails around the lake are available between the beginning of the year and April each year. Walking by the lake in the evening, watching the sunset, the clouds on the horizon are dyed red, and the water and light are colorful. It is very easy to take a large photograph.Improvement District No. 9 · 6.5km from Banff

Columbia Icefield

The Columbia Ice Sheet is the largest ice sheet remnant in the world outside the Arctic Circle. Because the ice layer of the glacier is extremely dense, sunlight cannot be refracted, and it will show a crystal clear blue light, which is very magnificent under the clear sky. From this, the melting snow flows to the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Sea respectively, which is a natural treasure formed after four glacial ages. The glacier is a snow track that slides from the bottom of the ice sheet to the slope due to the extrusion of gravity. It carries relatively heavy materials such as ice, snow and rocks, so the flow rate is very slow. The seven-kilometer-long Athabasca Glacier moves only about seven meters a year, so it may take hundreds or even thousands of years for snow and ice to flow from the ice sheet to the lower end of the glacier. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to take a helicopter overlooking this huge glacier that has lasted for 10,000 years. Or take a specially designed "Ice Explorer" all-terrain tour bus to set foot on the six-kilometer-long Athabasca Glacier (Athabasca Glacier) for a panoramic view of the swamp.Canada · Improvement District No. 9

When I went to Banff in early October, it was snowing heavily. From Jasper to Banff, I truly appreciated the beauty of the Icefield Parkway. There were beautiful snow-capped mountains on both sides. It felt great to drive a Wrangler along the smooth road!

Jack Lake is very big and a bit far from the center. We went there in the afternoon. The wind was very strong and it felt very cold. There were not many parking spaces there, but there were not many tourists either. It felt relatively unpopulated.

There are two waterfalls here, an upper and a lower. It took me all my energy just to walk to the lower falls, but once I arrived at the destination and saw such a beautiful waterfall, it was all worth it. In addition, the scenery along the way is very beautiful, and the streams are particularly beautiful and comfortable. Highly recommended.

There are many lakes in Canmore, and there are many lakes in layers on the mountains, which is very suitable for outdoor hiking and other sports. The mountain scenery is very beautiful, especially the scenery after snowing, which can be on postcards. The photo shows the Three Sisters Mountains after almost all the snow in summer melted due to climate change. The situation last year was better than this year.

The Columbia Glacier lay sprawled on the mountainside like a giant, grayish-brown figure. The ride up in the large vehicle was a jarring experience, leaving me feeling completely shaken. The ice was slippery underfoot, crunching with every step, and a pale blue light shone through the cracks. The wind whipped into my collar, making me shiver. Meltwater trickled in the distance; the guide said the ice was tens of thousands of years old, looking like frozen time. After half an hour, my hands and feet ached from the cold, so I quickly crawled back into the vehicle. Looking back, all I saw was that stark, white expanse standing there, cold and desolate.

Maligne Lake The largest natural lake in Jasper National Park, 22 kilometers long, 1 kilometer wide, and 96 meters deep at its deepest point. There are cruise ships and water recreational activities in the park, and there are many hiking trails around the lake. It is a very enjoyable thing to take a yacht ride on Maligne Lake. The cruise ship sails in the picturesque scenery of lakes and mountains. There are rolling snow-capped mountains on the lakeside. The lake is calm and open, and the water color is blue-green. The white clouds and snow peaks in the sky are set against the deep blue sky. The cruise ship stops at an island in the middle of the lake, Spirit Island, and there is a short stop to visit the island for a while. This is a small island exposed above the water in the center of the lake. It is said to be the most beautiful place in Maligne Lake. It was also bad luck. When we toured Maligne Lake, it was cloudy and windy. The boat had stopped sailing at the beginning, and later it was said that it would sail in the afternoon. However, taking a cruise in the strong wind and cloudy weather greatly reduced the scenery and interest.
