The Mulan Hunting Grounds have been a lush grassland since ancient times, and its fame today is primarily due to the Qing Dynasty emperors and the numerous "braid dramas" (dramas featuring emperors with queues). Emperor Kangxi would go to the Mulan Hunting Grounds almost every year after the beginning of autumn to participate in the autumn hunt. Yu Qiuyu, in his book "Fifteen Years of Departure," believes that the Kangxi-Qianlong era of prosperity began with the emperor's robust health and spirit. The TV series "Scarlet Heart" also depicts Kangxi's hunting trips beyond the Great Wall. The TV series "Princess Pearl," set against the backdrop of Emperor Qianlong's reign, was even filmed at the Mulan Hunting Grounds. We've seen countless scenes of Qing emperors hunting in novels and TV dramas, and may only have a general understanding of the location of "Mulan Hunting Grounds"—north of Chengde, in the ancient "frontier region." Today, the Mulan Hunting Grounds actually cover a very large area. Heading northwest from Weichang Manchu and Mongolian Autonomous County (hereinafter referred to as Weichang County) in Chengde City, the area bordering Hebei Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region all belong to "Mulan Hunting Grounds." The Mulan Hunting Grounds mainly include four attraction : Saihanba National Forest Park, Yudao Kou Grassland Forest scenic area , and Hongsongwa Nature Reserve in Hebei Province, and Ulanbutong Grassland in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The four major attraction are roughly located as follows: Saihanba is in the middle, Yudaokou is southwest of Saihanba, Hongsongwa is northeast of Saihanba, and Wulanbutong Grassland is northwest of Saihanba. For visitors from the south, Weichang County, the starting point for visiting Mulan Weichang, is southeast of Saihanba. The attraction are quite far apart, and each attraction is large, containing many smaller attractions. Therefore, visiting Mulan Weichang requires private charter or driving yourself. The most beautiful scenery isn't necessarily within the attraction, but often along the road. Driving across the vast grasslands, you'll pass lakes, rivers, birch forests, occasionally glimpses of desert, vast fields of wildflowers, and herds of horses. You can park your car wherever you like, offering complete freedom. If private charter, choose an off-road vehicle, as the grasslands have steep slopes, potholes that can easily cause vehicles to overturn, and some areas require wading through water. The reference price is 600-700 yuan per day, which may rise to 1000 yuan per day during peak tourist peak season. The scenery here changes with the seasons. Mid-June to late September is the most beautiful time to visit Mulan Weichang, with summer for flower viewing and autumn for fall foliage. From early June to mid-August, wolfsbane flowers bloom; from late July to early August, rapeseed flowers bloom; from early July to late August, golden lotus flowers bloom; and from late August to early September, sunflowers bloom. From early to late September, the weather cools, but you can still enjoy the picturesque autumn scenery. The ever-present sunsets and stars hold back every traveler's hurried steps. Stay at least one night here, just to witness the sunsets on the grasslands and the countless stars at night. It's about 20 kilometers from the entrance to Saihanba National Forest Park.Mechanical Forest FarmUlanbutong GrasslandHongshan Military Horse FarmAccommodation is available, but conditions are limited. Even some hotels that claim to have good facilities only offer hot water for limited hours. Near the accommodations, there are usually shops selling traditional grassland food, with lamb being particularly delicious. Besides the vast grasslands, numerous rivers and lakes, and boundless forests, horseback riding is also a highlight. With the guidance of the horsemen, most visitors can probably only manage to make the horse trot, but it's still very exciting and fun. First-time visitors to Mulan Weichang may find it difficult to choose due to its vastness and numerous attractions—it's all grassland, so which area should I visit? Here are some recommended and fun spots. Saihanba National Forest Park: Qixing Lake in the attraction is a place that almost every visitors who goes to Saihanba National Forest Park will visit. It consists of seven small lakes that form a large wetland. A boardwalk has been built on the lake. Its original name was Huopaozi ("paozi" refers to a small lake formed naturally by groundwater seeping out of the grassland). It was here that Emperor Kangxi burned Galdan's grain and fodder. Yudao Kou Grassland Forest scenic area: Taoxian Lake is the most beautiful place in Yudao Kou. There is a small mountain shaped like a fairy peach on the south side of the lake. Hongsongwa Nature Reserve: The attraction is located deep in the grassland and is not frequented by many visitors. The wind turbines of the Datang Wind Power Station on the grassland are a highlight. Ulan Butong Grassland: General's Pond is a landmark attraction in Ulan Butong, famous for the Battle of Ulan Butong between Emperor Kangxi and Galdan in history. As a visitors attraction in Ulan Butong Grassland, it has relatively rich tourist facilities, but the original tranquility has been destroyed by the large number of visitors. It can be said that it is an attraction whose significance outweighs its value.BeigouIt's a worthwhile tourist attraction. As a grazing area on the Ulan Butong Grassland, the beautiful scene of "cattle and sheep appearing as the wind blows the grass low" can only be seen here, and it's also perfect for sunset photography. Ulan Butong also offers a fun paragliding experience, allowing you to enjoy a panoramic view of Ulan Butong from the air.China · Weichang

Huamugou National Forest Park

The total area of Huamugou National Forest Park in Keshiketeng Banner, Inner Mongolia is 41,858 hectares. It is located in the Saihanba area on the eastern section of the Yanshan Mountains and the northern edge of the Qilaotu Mountains. It is well-known throughout the country for its rich grassland landscape on the Bashang grassland. It is known as the pearl of Bashang and a natural oxygen bar! The park integrates mountains, hills, plateaus, sandy land, forests and grasslands, and integrates meadow jungles, grassland lakes, characteristic scenic forests, wild animals, seasonal phases, and natural landscapes in one place. It can be called a tourist attraction. In spring, azaleas, primroses, irises, etc. bloom in competition; in summer, the sun is covered by dense shade, and natural wild fruits hang on the branches, which are refreshing to taste; in autumn, the Attraction is colorful and the forests are dyed; in winter, it is covered with snow, and the rime and snow birch are covered in silver, and the trees are jade-like. Looking far away, the white birch trees all over the mountains are like graceful girls, swaying in the luxuriance of summer, the splendor of autumn, and the purity of winter. How can one not admire the beauty? The occasional bird calls and deer calls attract the curious. In the depths of the jungle, wild animals such as Northeast Red Deer and Roe Deer appear from time to time. It is not difficult to imagine what a mysterious and harmonious scenery it is. Due to its unique geographical structure and cultural environment, Huamugou National Forest Park is beautiful all year round, especially in autumn and winter. In summer, Huamugou National Forest Park is a resort for cooling off and escaping the heat. The forests are lush and cool, and the summer is as cool as spring. Birds are singing and dancing. In autumn, Huamugou National Forest Park has high skies, blue waters, light winds, and colorful forests. The beauty of Huamugou National Forest Park lies in the word "natural". The village is not big and is hidden in the ditch. If you don't stop your car, you will hardly find it even if you drive by the village. The slope is not steep, but there are gullies and ravines. There are patches of white birch trees on the top of the mountain, irregular terraces on the hillside, and old elm trees with graceful postures in groups of three or two at the foot of the mountain. In the gaps between the trees are sheep folds and cattle pens surrounded by magnolias, which are either circular or rectangular. There is no unified planning, no deliberate arrangement, and no guidance from any artist. Everything is so natural, and everything conforms to the aesthetic norms of staggered heights, sparse and dense interlacing, and the combination of crooked and straight. On the green grassland like the sea, under the clear blue sky, accompanied by the cheerful horse-head fiddle and long pastoral songs, enjoying the pure air of the natural oxygen bar with the fragrance of green grass, isn't this the pure land that you have been dreaming about and the feeling you want to get back?China · Hexigten Banner

This grassland is highly recommended. We visited in autumn, and although it wasn't as golden, it's still worth a second visit. The grassland in spring is much greener, stretching as far as the eye can see like an oasis. While the birch forests are beautiful from afar, up close they're covered in horse manure—black and polluting, making the grassland smell and the experience unpleasant for tourists, completely masking the earthy aroma. We suggest that the horse owners pick up the manure to give tourists a better impression. Overall, it's a very beautiful environment and worth visiting. Be prepared for the cold; it gets just as cold, or even colder, at night.

🎑Ulan Butong during the Mid-Autumn Festival is absolutely the pinnacle of autumn scenery!👍🍁 The red, yellow, and green hues contrast beautifully with the blue sky and white clouds, a beauty beyond words... Here, you can forget all your worries; if you miss it, you'll have to wait another year.🍵

Towering stone forests, accompanied by birch groves, offer a breathtaking view as you wander among the grey rock formations and golden leaves, experiencing the wonders of nature. Grass grows beneath the trees, while blue skies and white clouds rise above the stone forest, creating a vibrant atmosphere. In the distance, alpine meadows stretch out, vast and magnificent. The path leading here is also a tapestry of meadows and forests, with valleys and grasslands shifting and changing – a continuous panorama of beauty. The unique scenery of the Stone Forest, unlike any other place, is definitely worth a visit.

If you're traveling with elderly people, you need to consider their physical condition. Walking the whole way can be tiring for those who aren't physically fit. There aren't many decent restaurants inside, and the food at the restaurants is just so-so, plus the prices are relatively high.

Autumn in Yudaokou is like nature overturning its palette. Golden leaves, fiery red maple leaves, and emerald green pines and cypresses interweave into a brilliant and colorful painting.

Once you arrive in Fengning, you must drive the Hundred-Mile Sky Road. I've been here before in the summer, and this National Day holiday I came again, and it was absolutely stunning. There were greens, purples, and mostly golden hues—it was breathtaking. The entire route was almost entirely paved, so even sedans could drive comfortably. A perfect score! I'll definitely come back next year.

The scenery is particularly great. I caught up with the most beautiful time of the Colorful Forest. Off-road is also highly recommended. When playing the package project, the order was messed up. The staff arranged to take the sightseeing bus again for free, which is very humane.

I highly recommend Huamugou National Forest Park in Keshiketeng Banner, Chifeng! It's a hidden gem where forest and grassland seamlessly blend. The vast, straight birch forests are breathtaking, and in autumn, the golden leaves against the backdrop of evergreen pines and fiery red shrubs create a vibrant, almost painterly scene. The lakes and mountains of Hama Dam and Jinchan Lake offer stunning views, especially at sunrise when the reflections on the water are breathtaking – a paradise for photographers. Hiking along the wooden boardwalks is easy, and the fresh air is filled with the fragrance of grass and trees – a truly therapeutic natural oxygen bar. July and August are perfect for escaping the summer heat, while late September to early October is when the autumn colors are at their peak. The roads are easy to drive on, and the park is clean. While the dining options aren't luxurious, the authentic experience is unparalleled. It's perfect for road trips within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, family outings, and photography trips – you won't regret coming!

The lakes on the grassland are very precious. Dali Lake, the second largest lake in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, has beautiful scenery. The wetlands in the South Bank Scenic Area are also worth a visit. Maybe because of the drought this year, the grass around it is not growing very well!
