The Alps stretch across south-central Europe, spanning France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, and Slovenia, and are the main mountain system in south-central Europe. Continuous snow-capped peaks, deep glacial valleys, and scattered alpine lakes together form the typical natural landscape here. The mountains are home to numerous peaks and observation decks, each with its own unique characteristics.Mont Blanchas an elevation of approx. 4,800 m and is the main peak of the Alps; the Matterhorn is famous for its pyramid shape; the cogwheel railway terminus in the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe region is at an altitude of over 3,400 m, allowing passengers to ascend to a high point surrounded by glaciers and snow-capped peaks. The hiking route aroundMont Blanc, which runs through France, Switzerland, and Italy, is approx. 170 km long and is a classic long-distance hiking trail. In winter, the Alps feature numerous ski resorts such as Chamonix, Zermatt, and Sankt Anton am Arlberg, with a long ski season and excellent snow quality. Summer is the main season for alpine hiking and mountain biking, with trails passing through meadows blooming with wildflowers and quaint mountain villages. A dense network of alpine cable cars and scenic railways connects multiple high-altitude viewpoints, allowing visitors to easily reach observation decks at altitudes of several thousand meters to overlook the panoramic views of rolling peaks and glaciers.Furna · 32.4km from Bludenz

Neuschwanstein Castle

9.6
4.5/5
1.6k reviews
Neuschwanstein Castle is located in the foothills of the Alps in Bavaria, Germany, near the Austrian border and not far from the small town of Füssen. Built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a tribute to composer Wagner and inspired by the legend of the "Swan Knight" Lohengrin, construction began in 1869. Its fairy-tale appearance—white walls, blue domes, and scattered spires—served as the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. It is perennially regarded as Germany's tourism icon. The castle interior was originally planned to have over 200 rooms, but by the time of the king's death in 1886, only a dozen had been completed, each exquisitely crafted. The throne hall's dome is painted with a star-studded blue night sky, while the floor features mosaic patterns of flora and fauna, with a chandelier modeled after a Byzantine crown hanging high above. The Gothic double bed in the king's bedroom took over four years to carve by more than a dozen sculptors. The relatively large singers' hall in the castle, adorned with murals of "Lohengrin" and "Parsifal," was modeled after the Wartburg singers' hall and still hosts concerts every September. Swan motifs are nearly omnipresent, appearing in murals, door handles, and washstands. Interestingly, this medieval-inspired castle was already equipped with telephones, central heating, hot water, and automatic flushing toilets at the time, making it remarkably advanced for its era. To capture the classic postcard-perfect shot, head to Marienbrücke. This pedestrian bridge, suspended over the Pöllat Gorge, faces the southern facade of the castle and is not far from the bus drop-off point. It gets crowded in the afternoon, so an early visit is recommended. You can take the shuttle bus, a horse-drawn carriage, or hike up the mountain. The hiking route offers a bird's-eye view of the castle, and along the way, you can also see the yellow Hohenschwangau Castle, the old royal palace on the opposite hill. The castle's ending carries a touch of tragedy: Ludwig II built it with his private funds and loans, facing strong opposition from his ministers. On a late night in June 1886, he was arrested in his castle bedroom and mysteriously died days later by Lake Starnberg. Seven weeks later, the castle opened to the public. Today, visiting the interior requires following a guide, and photography is prohibited inside. Live guides provide commentary in English or German, while an audio guide is available for Chinese. Visitor guide To the castle There are three ways to reach the castle: taking the shuttle bus, riding a carriage, or going on foot. Most people choose to take the shuttle bus, then walk a short distance to Neuschwanstein Castle, where there is a viewing platform to overlook another castle—Hohenschwangau. You can also reach the castle by carriage, where you can enjoy picturesque scenery along the way, and the witty carriage driver will share legendary stories that happened here. After disembarking, it's just a short walk to the castle entrance. If you don't want to wait in line for the shuttle bus or prefer outdoor activities, you can also hike to Neuschwanstein Castle. Along the way, you can capture an aerial view of the castle, and there are relatively fewer travelers. Take a postcard-perfect photo of the castle Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge) is located near the terminal stop of the uphill bus. This 100 m-high bridge spans between two cliffs, with its floor made of wooden planks that slightly bounce when stepped on. Here, you can capture the famous postcard-perfect shot of Neuschwanstein Castle. If you arrive early before your scheduled visit time, you can first head to Marienbrücke to photograph the beautiful view of Neuschwanstein Castle, as the bridge gets overcrowded after noon. Guided tour To visit the castle interior, you must follow the official guide. The guide provides services in English and German. You can also choose to use an audio guide (available in Chinese). After the visit, you can take a short break at the café inside the castle.Schwangau · 83.6km from Bludenz

Santa Maria delle Grazie is located in the west of Milan, on the south side of the Sforza Castle. This red Catholic building consists of a church and a Dominican monastery. It is famous for the fresco "The Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci in the monastery's refectory. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. . The Last Supper "The Last Supper" was created by Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century, using innovative and bold painting techniques combining oil and tempera, creating a unique perspective effect, but also easily eroded. On August 15, 1943, the church and the congregation were bombed by British and American aircraft, and most of the canteen of the congregation was destroyed, but the wall on which The Last Supper was located survived. Centuries later, 80 percent of the painting's colors had faded, and restoration work began in 1977 and continued for 22 years. At present, the number of visitors is strictly controlled, and the number of visitors cannot exceed 30 at a time. In addition to the "Last Supper", the church building itself is also worth seeing. The church was built under the auspices of Duke Sforzesco and was finally completed in 1490. It was once used as the tomb of the Sforzesco family. Later, when the French invaded, the cultural relics and treasures in the church were looted, but the exquisite dome and frescoes were still preserved. The sacristy is now the Dominican cultural center, and often holds some salons and art exhibitions.Italy · Milan

Located in St. Mark's Square and adjacent to the Doge's Palace, St. Mark's Basilica was built in 828 and rebuilt in the 11th century due to a fire. It was originally used to house the remains of St. Mark, and was later used to collect plunders from various countries during the Eastern Expedition. Back treasure. It was once the largest church in medieval Europe and a treasure trove of rich art. Architectural style St. Mark's Basilica is dominated by Byzantine style, blending various architectural and decorative styles from Romanesque to Renaissance style. There are five Romanesque gates in the shape of diamond arches on the front, and oriental and Romanesque gates on the top. The German minaret and various marble statues, reliefs and flower-shaped patterns, huge domes and brilliant mosaics are its outstanding features. The church consists of five huge domed main halls and two cloistered vestibules, forming a giant Greek cross. The five domes are modeled after the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey. The three flagpoles standing in front of the church are meaningful, representing the three islands of Cyprus, Crete and Morea owned by Venice when it was at its peak, and it is a testimony to the glorious history of the city. At the top of the center of the church is a statue of St. Mark holding the Gospel of Mark, and below it is a flying lion symbolizing St. Mark.Italy · Venice

We choose the horse carriage ride up, it was €8 a person. It took around 20 minutes and we enjoyed the forest view. Make sure to arrive and park at least an hour early. The entrance time is exact to every 5 minutes for crowd control. The entrance ticket includes an audio set and takes around 30 minutes. You are moved thru the rooms rather quickly. There are free lockers at information at the entrance area if needed. No pictures can be taken during the tour. **not handicapped friendly ** must be able to walk for 2-3 hours and climb up and down many flights of stairs. There are no elevators. We planned to walk down but it began to rain. So we took the horse carriage again -/€4/person.
