Construction of the resort began in 1703 and took 89 years to complete, spanning the reigns of the Qing emperors Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong. This was the second political center apart from Beijing during the Qing dynasty. The mountain resort is divided into four major areas. On the south side are the palace and lake areas, and on the north side are the mountain and grassland areas. The palace and lake areas house the essence of the mountain resort. The lake area contains many examples of architecture from China's Jiangnan region just south of the Yangtze River. These are a result of the love the emperors Kangxi and Qianlong had for the Jiangnan scenery.Chengde · 32.3km from Chengde County

The Putuo Zongcheng Temple is located on the north side of Shizi Valley in Hebei's Chengde City. Built in the form of Lhasa's Potala Palace by Qianlong to celebrate the life of his mother as well as his own, people still call it "Little Potala Palace." The whole temple complex is divided into two parts, front and rear. The main structure of the temple is the Dahongtai, with the Wanfa Guiyi Hall inside the primary hall of the temple. Putuo Zongcheng Temple is a gate to the mountains behind it. A mix of Qing- and Tibetan-style architecture, there is a Tibetan-style, three-round-door white entrance building upon which a five-gated, yellow-glazed tiled pavilion is built.Chengde · 33.9km from Chengde County

Puning Temple, commonly known asDafo TempleLocated on the north side of the Mountain Resort, this is one of the larger Tibetan Buddhist temples in northern China. Built during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, it was constructed by Emperor Qianlong as a Tibetan Buddhist temple for Mongol princes attending imperial assemblies. The entire temple complex features magnificent and exquisite architecture, making it ideal for visits and photography. Many eminent monks have visited and blessed this temple, making it an excellent place for prayers and blessings. Puning Temple is very large, with a depth of about 250m and a width of about 130m. It takes approx. 2 hrs to walk through the temple. The architecture is quite unique - the front courtyard features traditional Han-style buildings including a Chinese mountain gate, Heavenly King Hall, side halls, and Mahavira Hall. The rear courtyard showcases typical Xizang-style architecture, centered around the magnificent Puning Temple - Mahayana Pavilion. Here you'll find a group of buildings modeled after Xizang's famous Samye Monastery, featuring white walls and red roofs perfect for photos. Inside the temple, you can pray at various halls, usually requiring a small donation of around a few dozen yuan for incense. The highlight is the Thousand-Hand and Thousand-Eye Guanyin statue in the Puning Temple's Mahayana Pavilion at the center of the backyard. Standing over 30 meters tall, it is one of the world's largest wooden Buddha statues—both exceptionally rare and magnificent. Be sure to visit and pay your respects. Additionally, on the east side of Puning Temple is Puyou Temple, its subsidiary monastery located within the same compound. The admission ticket for Puning Temple also includes access to Puyou Temple, allowing visitors to explore both sites on foot.Chengde · 33.2km from Chengde County

The Forbidden City, also known as the Imperial Palace, was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and is also the symbol of ancient China. When you are in the majestic and orderly high walls and deep courtyards, you can truly feel its former glory. ▲The long history has left behind large-scale precious buildings and countless cultural relics, which have also become the main attraction of visiting the Forbidden City today. ▲Classic attractions: The Forbidden City Corner Tower is a polygonal building with a convex plane on all four sides. It is located in Dongcheng District, Beijing. The roof has three layers. The upper layer is a hip roof with vertical and horizontal intersections. It is composed of a gable roof with flowing water on two slopes and a hip roof with four slopes. Because there are nine main ridges on this roof, it is called the Nine-ridge Hall. ▲Sundials are divided into two types according to their installation principle: equatorial and horizontal. The sundial installed using the equatorial principle is called an equatorial sundial. The key points of its production are that it must have a time plate, a latitude arc and a gnomon. When operating, the time plate must be parallel to the equatorial plane of the earth, the gnomon must be in the same direction as the earth's axis, and the shadow cast by the gnomon on the gnomon is the desired time. ▲The Treasure House is located in the Ningshou Palace area. It has a rich collection of treasures, including Buddhist supplies, ornaments, daily utensils, and treasures for appreciation. Among them, the red coral lion about 14 cm high, the Dongzhu court beads about 130 cm long, and the gold "Fengtianzhibao" seal are all rare treasures. ▲The Clock and Watch Museum is located in the Fengxian Hall in the palace. Most of the clocks on display are British products, but there are also clocks from other countries such as France and Switzerland. In addition to the timing function, these clocks are decorated with figures, birds, beasts, flowers, etc., which can also make various different movements. They are very delicately made. Among them, the copper-plated gilded writing clock, the copper-plated gilded enamel gourd-top fishing and woodcutting farming clock, and the copper-plated gilded rotating flower running man rhinoceros carrying clock are very rare.China · Beijing

Badaling Great Wall

The Badaling Great Wall is renowned as one of the Nine Strategic Passes under heaven, combining majestic cliffs with picturesque greenery to form the most spectacular section of the Ming Dynasty fortifications. Living up to the Chinese saying "He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true hero," this remains the premier choice for most Chinese visitors to experience the Wall. The fortress gate exhibits a trapezoidal shape, narrower on the east and wider on the west, featuring two gate towers. The eastern arch bears the inscription "Juyong Waizhen" (Frontier Town of Juyong), while the western gate displays "Beimen Suoyue" (Key to the Northern Gate). North of the fortress stretches the 12-tower Northern Wall section, while to the south lies the less crowded Southern Wall with 7 watchtowers. If time permits, we recommend exploring the Southern Wall first before tackling the more popular Northern section. ▲Walk Through Six Centuries of Golden History: A Visual Feast of Vermilion Foliage Blanketing the Great Wall ▲ As night descends, the Badaling Great Wall transforms into a gilded dragon winding through shadowed peaks, its illuminated battlements whispering tales of millennia - where imperial splendor meets enduring mystery beneath constellations of golden light. ▲Cloaked in winter's crystalline mantle, the Badaling Great Wall becomes a silver serpent coiled between snow-draped peaks, its ancient stones gilded by dawn's golden raysChina · Beijing

Suitable for family walks, outings, and leisurely strolls. It was a bit hot during August, the summer peak season; the evenings were cool, but the days were still very sunny and hot. The scenery was beautiful, but it was very crowded, as it's a famous tourist attraction.

Tangjiawan through bus is so good. I used to worry about driving and finding the way to Tangjiawan. Now with the through bus, it’s like a new world! You don’t have to check the route yourself or fight for a parking space. You can get on the bus at your doorstep and go directly to the scenic spot. It’s a one-stop round trip. You don’t have to worry about the route. It’s a worry-free trip. The bus leaves every day and doesn’t wait for anyone. It’s pure fun without routines. You can chat with your friends on the way. You will reach your destination before you know it.

There is no combined ticket for this attraction. You can book tickets separately on the platform. You don't need to pick up the tickets; just swipe your card to enter. Since it's not peak season, the attraction isn't crowded, so you don't need to hire a guide. You can just wander around on your own. Some of the scenery inside is quite photogenic.

It's definitely worth a visit. The cable car ride up and down the mountain is very pleasant. I recommend taking the cable car up; this open-air chairlift is quite unique, soaring through the pine forest and offering ever-changing views. Reaching the summit viewing platform offers the best panoramic view of Chengde: the Wulie River meanders, the forests of the Mountain Resort and the golden roof of the Putuo Temple unfold before your eyes, with distant mountains layered upon each other, providing a wide and expansive vista. Nearby, there's also a lifelike toad-shaped rock, and hidden in the mountains are the Baoshan Temple cliff carvings, rich in cultural details.
