Hito Tres Fronteras (Argentina)
Hito Tres Fronteras (Argentina) is located at the confluence of the Iguazu and Parana rivers. The Iguazu River flows from the jungle and merges here into the wide Parana River. The T-shaped waterway divides the surrounding land into three parts, naturally marking the borders between Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. Standing on the observation deck on this side, you can see all three countries with the naked eye. Each of the three countries has erected an obelisk on its respective bank. The obelisk on the Argentina side is decorated in blue and white, and the flag often flies on the flagpole next to it, symbolizing the peaceful coexistence of the three nations. On clear days, you can even make out the silhouettes of the obelisks in Brazil and Paraguay across the river. The plaza below the observation deck features a craft market with stalls selling local specialties such as mate tea, wood carvings, and macaw-shaped dolls. The two rivers have different water colors, and a clear dividing line is often visible at the confluence. At dusk, the sunset dyes the river surface in warm colors, making it a popular time for photos. After nightfall, the obelisk lights up, the plaza fountain dances to music, and children can often be seen running and playing through the water jets.Argentina · Puerto Iguazu
Paraná River
The second largest river in South America. Originating from the northern slope of the Mantiqueira Mountains on the southeastern edge of the Brazilian Plateau, the main source of the Rio Grande, after joining the Parana Iba River, was called the Paraná River. The total length is 5290 kilometers. The basin area is 2.8 million square kilometers. The Rio Grande is 1,290 kilometers long. It rushes down from its source at an altitude of 1,500 meters and crosses the table-shaped sandstone mountains of the Brazilian plateau, forming a series of rapids and waterfalls. The Paraná River is divided into upper and lower sections. The upper section is 2,800 kilometers long from the confluence of the Rio Grande and Paranaíba to Corrientes, Argentina. There are the famous Iguazu Falls and Guaira Falls. The Lower Paraná River reaches 1,200 kilometers long and flows through the La Plata Plain from north to south. The upper section of the Paraná River is rich in hydropower resources, and large hydropower stations have been built in Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. The lower section is an important inland waterway in central and eastern South America, with an annual navigable mileage of 2,700 kilometers.
