Jiuquwan is located at the junction of the Greater Khingan Range and the Inner Mongolia Plateau, in the eastern part of the Ulagai Management District of Xilinguole League, Inner Mongolia, and on the northeast side of Ulagai Lake. It is the intercepted basin of the famous reverse flow river - the Ulagai River. It is named "Jiuquwan" because of its winding and tortuous natural beauty. Here you can find grassland wetlands, winding river sections, unique vegetation such as red willows and flowers, migrating birds, and the normal life of grassland animals. You can wander in the vast blue sea, take a ride on a horse-drawn cart, drink a bowl of milk tea, eat a piece of hand-held meat, feel the boldness and beauty of Mongolian songs and dances, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the grassland. Jiuquwan Attraction also has a profound cultural heritage. In 1202 AD, Genghis Khan and Jamukha's coalition forces fought near Gaoyao Ula Mountain, which is the famous "Battle of Kuoyitian", laying a solid foundation for national unity.East Ujimqin Banner · >100km from downtown

Khan Mountain is located at the foot of Guanyin Mountain in Huolinguole City. It is a mountain sculpture scenic area themed around Mongol-Yuan culture, and the entire mountain is planned as a scroll of grassland history that you can read as you walk. From bottom to top, the scenic area consists of the mountain gate, The Road of the Blue Wolf, the Mongol-Yuan army formation, and the Mongol-Yuan emperor sculpture group. Not far from the entrance, statues of the Blue Wolf and the White Deer greet visitors first, which, according to legend, are the ancestors of the Mongol people; statues of historical figures from the Golden Family line both sides of The Road of the Blue Wolf, leading all the way to the foot of the mountain. Hundreds of warrior statues are arrayed at the foot of the mountain with an imposing presence reminiscent of the Terracotta Warriors, making it an iconic scene of the entire scenic area. Walking slowly up the plank road, the view gradually opens up, and more than 10 statues of Mongol-Yuan emperors are scattered along the mountainside. Upon reaching the summit, giant statues of Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan stand side by side, reaching tens of meters in height. They can be seen from afar and are even more awe-inspiring when viewed from below. From the summit, you can overlook the rolling green waves of the surrounding grassland, and taking photos with the sculpture group in the frame makes for excellent pictures. On the grassland around the scenic area, there are often experience activities such as horseback riding, archery, and taking photos in Mongolian robes, which interested visitors can try while they are there.China · Holingol

Ulagai Grassland

Ulagai Grassland is named after the Ulagai River and is a well-preserved natural grassland deep within the Xilin Gol Grassland. Known for its vast, sparsely populated landscape and expansive skies, it is often called the "Grassland on the Horizon." The area features diverse natural landscapes, including primitive grasslands, lakes, wetlands, birch forests, Peony Valley, and Huanghuagou. It also preserves historical sites such as Bulin Temple, Genghis Khan's Border Wall, and the Gulabusaihan Aobao, while the nomadic customs of the Ujumqin tribe have been passed down here for generations. The winding Ulagai River spreads across the grassland like a hada. The river's repeated twists and turns around the Jiuquwan area outline the classic image of hilly grasslands, making it a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts. The movie "Wolf Totem" was filmed on location in this grassland. In the Wild Wolf Valley, you can observe prairie wolves up close and feel the wilderness atmosphere of human-wolf coexistence from the original novel. Around Bulin Spring, springs and temples coexist, and the nearby preserved site of the "educated youth" settlement carries memories of the production and construction corps era. Legend has it that when Genghis Khan unified the Mongol tribes, he decisively defeated the Tatar tribe at the confluence of the Ulagai and Seyeleji rivers, leaving behind legends of ancient battlefields in this grassland. Exploring this grassland is best done by self-drive, as the attractions are far apart. A common route is to follow the loop connecting Jiuquwan, Wild Wolf Valley, Bulin Spring, and Peony Valley. In summer, the grass is lush and the climate is cool. In early summer, you can even catch the wild peonies in full bloom. Activities like horseback riding and riding in lele carts are perfect for slowing down and experiencing the grassland at a leisurely pace. The temperature difference between day and night on the grassland is significant, and the sunlight is intense, so be sure to prepare sun protection and warm clothing in advance.East Ujimqin Banner · >100km from downtown

I went there with my family by car in early August and stayed in Holingol. The scenic area has complete facilities, and the staff are very professional and friendly. The area is very clean, with no litter in the corners, and the restrooms are quite clean. The grassland scenery is best viewed from afar. In my memory, crossing one mountain leads to a sea, or another mountain. On the other side of this mountain is grassland, and the mountain itself is also grassland... What I felt here was more of a sense of vicissitude and vastness. It's a place where you can find a moment of peace and tranquility, and it's worth coming to experience the blue sky and green grass, the coolness and fragrance!

Khan Mountain is 11 kilometers away from the city of Holingol. It was built in 2011, covers an area of more than 13,000 square meters, and the sculpture height is 50 meters. It is the largest sculpture group of figures in my country, with an investment of 55 million yuan. The head of Genghis Khan on the top of the mountain is 50 meters high, and the head of Kublai Khan is 30 meters high. The 800 sculptures of the Mongolian soldiers are lifelike and majestic, very spectacular and shocking. The three characters "Khan Mountain" on the mountain gate were written by Buhe, the former vice chairman of the National People's Congress. Looking up at the tall image on the top of the mountain, I think of Chairman Mao's poem: Genghis Khan, a great hero, just bends his bow and shoots an eagle.

The Bulin Spring in Inner Mongolia is a scenic spot on the grassland that combines natural charm and cultural heritage. It means "hot spring" in Mongolian. The spring water is kept at a constant temperature of 4°C, with an annual flow of 55,000 tons. It is rich in minerals, sweet and clear, and is regarded as a "holy spring" by herdsmen. Legend has it that Genghis Khan once quenched his thirst and predicted his marriage here, adding a legendary color to it. In the scenic area stands a statue of Genghis Khan bending his bow, echoing the heroic spirit of the history of war and iron cavalry. It also reproduces the film and television base of "Wolf Totem" to reproduce the years of the Corps and the scenes of life on the grassland. Visitors can not only taste natural spring water, stroll on the ancient plank road, but also immerse themselves in the original grassland culture, feel the vitality nourished by the hot springs and the historical heritage of the Mongolian people, which is a model of the integration of nature and humanity.

The Corps Town is located in the Haragaitu Farm in the Ulagai Management District of Xilin Gol League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is the location of the 51st Regiment of the former Inner Mongolia Production and Construction Corps, and retains the complete buildings of the Corps period. Since 2011, the place has combined its historical and cultural advantages to restore the auditorium, post office, guesthouse, etc. to their original appearance. In 2015, with the release of the movie "Wolf Totem", the Corps Town began to be known to everyone. The Haragaitu Farm where the Corps Town is located is one of the three state-owned farms in the Ulagai Management District of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 1969, the 17- and 18-year-old Corps soldiers shouldered the mission of garrisoning and guarding the border and entered the Ulagai grassland. That period also became a peak period for the economic and social development of the Ulagai region. As a result, a unique military reclamation culture and the Corps spirit with "loving the motherland, selfless dedication, hard work, pioneering and enterprising" as the main connotation have been formed. According to the memories of the educated youth who once went to the countryside in the Corps Town, every intersection here has a green road sign of × Battalion × Platoon × Squad. The staff members coming in and out wore military uniforms from the 1960s and 1970s, with red collar patches and red cap badges. “White and yellow winds blow from spring to winter; the snow just melts in May and freezes again in September; the wind blows the cattle and sheep away, and they wear cotton jackets in June.” This was the real situation here back then.
