We had a great experience visiting Oak Alley Plantation, and a big part of it was thanks to our driver, Kin. Originally from New Orleans, he shared a lot of knowledge about the city’s history during the drive and gave us excellent recommendations for places to visit and restaurants to try. He was truly great and very professional. I highly recommend him! His vehicle was also very comfortable, which made the trip even more enjoyable. As for Oak Alley itself, the visit is interesting for anyone who wants to see the inside of a former slaveholder’s house, as both the mansion and the grounds are very well preserved. The guided tour of the house is paid, but access to the gardens and the former slave quarters is free. If your main interest is learning more about the lives of enslaved people, I would recommend visiting Whitney Plantation instead, as it offers a deeper and more focused perspective on that history.

Reviews: New Orleans: Laura Plantation Tour with Transportation
Guest User2026-05-14
Overall positive experience with Crescent City Tours. Driver was courteous, safe, and pointed out interesting landmarks and personal anecdotes as we drove the 1 hour to Laura Plantation. The 3 couples on the pick up were on somewhat different itineraries. Although I had decided just to do Laura, in the end I think it would have been worth it to see both given we stopped their both for another couple on a tour there and we have a glimpse at the front only.

The legendary Oak Alley Plantation. As for the Laura Plantation, we visited it with Philippe as our guide: fascinating!
