Highlights

Craft your own chopsticks from a selection of 7 types of wood
Enjoy a hands-on experience with English-speaking staff to guide you
Personalize your chopsticks with an engraving in Japanese or your language
Itinerary
Shape your own chopsticks using a traditional Japanese kanna plane, then turn the fragrant wood shavings into a Japanese-style scented sachet. Choose from 10 types of natural wood and take home two handmade souvenirs: your chopsticks and your sachet. No woodworking experience is needed. English-speaking staff will guide you through each step.

Step 1: Choose your wood

Choose from 7 types of natural wood, including rare varieties. Compare the grain and colors to find the wood you like best. Premium wood is available for an additional fee.

Step 2: Make your chopsticks

Use a traditional Japanese kanna plane to gradually shape the wood into chopsticks. Smooth the surface with sandpaper and finish your chopsticks with oil. Enjoy the feel and scent of freshly worked wood as you craft your pair. You can also have your name or a message engraved at no extra charge.

Step 3: Make a scented sachet from the wood shavings

Place the fragrant shavings from your chopstick-making process into a small pouch and add Japanese aroma oil to create your sachet. Keep it in your bag or place it in a drawer to enjoy its fragrance after your trip.

This workshop gives new life to the wood shavings instead of throwing them away, offering a hands-on introduction to the Japanese idea of mottainai—valuing resources and avoiding waste. Take home your finished chopsticks and sachet on the same day.

This one-hour workshop is ideal for couples, friends, and families. You can also add a ramen-making experience after the chopstick workshop.

We also offer a chopstick-making and scented-sachet workshop at our location, a five-minute walk from Umeda Sky Building. Choose the location that best fits your travel plans.
