Itinerary:
Departing from Reykjavik in the morning, this small-group 1-day tour to Snæfellsnes will introduce you to Iceland's volcanoes and history. Snæfellsnes is a favorite location for photographers. You'll be picked up in the morning at a tour bus stop near your hotel in downtown Reykjavik (we recommend waiting at the pickup point by 8:00, as the bus arrives between 8:05 and 8:45 depending on road and weather conditions). Traveling north towards Snæfellsnes, you'll see mountains that didn't exist before - formed by hundreds of recent volcanic eruptions. The cooled lava creates spectacular natural views. During the journey, your guide will share local stories and photography tips. Passing through scenic mountains and fjords, you'll reach Borgarnes town, one of the first settlements established by Norwegian Vikings upon arriving in Iceland. There may be a short break here before continuing north towards the Arctic Circle.
The first stop is Ytri-Tunga Beach, a paradise for animal lovers and a seal habitat where wild seals gather on the sand and can often be seen climbing onto rocks from a distance. The next destination is the Búðir Historical Site, located in the lava fields of Snæfellsnes, Iceland, named after the iconic black church, Búðakirkja. This wooden church was built in 1703. Afterwards, visit a charming fishing village surrounded by dramatic coastal cliffs, where you can listen to the legend of Bárður, the half-human, half-troll figure, while exploring this enchanting coastline. The tour continues to Gatklettur, a natural basalt arch also known as "Stone Arch," a favorite spot for photographers. Djúpalónssandur Beach is a black pebble beach on Snæfellsnes, featuring basalt sea stacks, remnants of an old fishing village, and stunning wave-swept views. Here, Iceland's rugged coastal beauty intertwines with its rich maritime history. The beach is named after Djúpalón, a once-thriving fishing village. On the southern coast of Snæfellsnes, the towering Londrangar peaks rise dramatically—a pair of spectacular basalt pinnacles reaching 75 meters high. This area is not only a geological wonder but also a hotspot for wildlife, home to a variety of seabirds. Ingjaldshöfn Church, a red-and-white hilltop church on the peninsula, has become a popular photo spot due to its resemblance to the red house on an eye test chart. It's also famous for its striking contrast against the surrounding lava fields and the distant Snæfellsjökull glacier. Arrive at the famous Kirkjufell (Church Mountain), renowned for its hat-like silhouette and featured in *Game of Thrones*. Its jagged peak resembles a hat or church spire, forming an iconic view alongside Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall. Winter (October to March) is one of the best times to witness the Northern Lights in this area. The journey then heads back to Reykjavik, with an estimated arrival around 20:00, though timing may vary depending on weather and road conditions. Return to the city, concluding a rich and unforgettable day tour.
