Attraction introduction
[One] is currently China's most comprehensive site museum for understanding the "Ancient Capital of Six Dynasties" and also the most systematic thematic museum showcasing Six Dynasties culture.
The exhibition's core theme showcases the splendor of the "Oriental Metropolis," featuring four distinct displays: Emperors of the Six Dynasties, Timeless Elegance, Cultural Brilliance of the Six Dynasties, and Distinguished Figures of the Six Dynasties.
[3] The museum is located on part of the original site of the Jiankang City from the Six Dynasties period. It was the excavation of this millennium-old site that led to the establishment of today's The Oriental Metropolitan Museum.
Highlights
[1] The entire museum was designed under the leadership of Mr. Chien Chung Pei, son of renowned architect I.M. Pei. The signature Pei architectural element of "letting light do the design" is evident throughout, perfectly showcasing Chinese aesthetics.
Six long banners hang from the ceiling of the hall, each inscribed with the names of the Six Dynasties: Eastern Wu, Eastern Jin, Song, Qi, Liang, and Chen. The walls briefly introduce these short-lived dynasties, and these six banners have become iconic photo spots in the museum.
