Reviews: Chiang Mai: The Giant Café & Mae Kampong Village Day Trip

A great trip. We did the tour in reverse which meant we missed a lot of the crowds. The scenery is beautiful and well worth the trip. March, our guide, was great. His English was really good and he was very friendly.

The trip is joyful and tour guide is friendly. The minivan could be more comfortable. Overall the experience is awesome. Worth the price and recommended.

The Buatang Falls, which I had only seen in pictures, was truly amazing when I actually went there. The water was strong, but the feeling of clinging to the rocks without slipping was so fun and amazing. The course was longer and more interesting than I thought.

The vehicle was a Toyota van. The tour accommodated 12 passengers, plus the guide and driver, for a total of 14 people. I participated alone, but the others were in groups of two or more. I've traveled to Chiang Mai several times, but I'd always wanted to visit Chiang Rai. This time, I saw an affordable tour from Trip.com and immediately signed up. Chiang Rai is about 190km from Chiang Mai on regular roads, which is quite a long way. The road passes through mountainous areas, with many curves and I almost got carsick, but I managed to get there. While road widening work is being done along the way, many narrow sections mean that this tour may not be recommended for those who are not comfortable with long car rides. Nearly 70% of the tour was the round-trip time, including breaks. The guide used AI to efficiently navigate each spot, making sightseeing at each one a smooth experience. The tour included entrance fees and lunch, making it a great value. I recommend it for those looking for an efficient trip to Chiang Rai. For lunch, we had a Thai buffet at a restaurant near White Temple. The hotel pick-up service in the morning is also very convenient.

We didn't want to spend a long time in Chiang Rai, so we booked a day tour. The trip was comfortable, picked up on time, given bottled water, and dropped off at a local restaurant with a free buffet between temples. The 3.5-hour drive each way didn't feel long because we made stops, and special thanks to the choice of places with good, clean restrooms. Incidentally, the road wasn't that bad; after traveling in Vietnam, it seemed calm and completely safe. On the way to Chiang Rai, we stopped at a natural hot spring where we could warm our feet—a truly wonderful experience. The guide didn't say much about the history of the temples, but as far as I understand, there's not much to tell—the temples are newly built, beautiful architectural designs by a famous Thai artist. I wish they'd given us more than an hour to explore the white temple, and that there was a lunch break at the temple museum at 12-13, and we arrived right around 12. I can't say much about the cafe; it was nice to relax there.
