The views were super nice!! But as i paid for the english speaking tour, i was super disappointed when the driver did not know abit of english. i was not able to converse with him on the duration of each trip and the duration of the drive. Due to the cloudy weather, the group made some decisions to skip some stops while conversing in spanish. My wife and i were not aware of what was discussed.

The high-speed boats that power you up and down this canyon are great fun. They're fast and noisy, and you get a bit wet from the bow-wave, but they get you a long way up the canyon and give you a great chance to see the various sights, including the toweriing rocky cliffa above you. You'll see wildlife too - we say egrets, herons, spider monkeys and some (very large) crocodiles. The boats are completely open with no cover so take sprays, hats, water etc - you'll get very hot. Highly recommended.

The guide was about 30 minutes late picking me up (no biggie). It was nice to have an English speaking guide, but he was "just barely" english. I was fine with the stuff he taught me but I missed a few things, but caught enough to understand and Google the history when I got home. I don't mean anything above to be negative. There is a difference between being conversational in a language and being able to describe 500 years of history. The guide did a very good job, but just letting people know he wasn't 100% fluent in English. And just saying, I know I'm in a non-English country but I took the English tour. I stayed in San Cris for 3 months and went on pretty much all the tours available and this was the only tour that (for me) an English guide was available and NEEDED. The other tours in town you don't need to speak the language to see cool stuff, but this one it's important and you need a guide. Also..the church I saw in town was a cool experience. I took a shot of Pox as the sacrament, but be warned...you might see a chicken killed as part of a religious ceremony. I didn't like it and cringed a little but it is what is. No blood, they just broke it's neck.

Definitely a great experience for a solo traveller! Supportive and friendly guide, staff and boat driver, and sufficient time for swimming, snorkelling and taking instagrammable photos!

A pleasant trip to Shilin Nine Towns, compared to the crowded Shilin, I prefer the scenery of Nine Towns, the cable car, the boat in the gorge, and the cool cave. The driver was very good, drove very steadily, and introduced Kunming's cultural scenery along the way.
