University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge has 31 colleges, almost blending into the city of Cambridge. Newton, Darwin, and Hawking once studied here, with over a hundred Nobel laureates associated with the university. Xu Zhimo attended a study tour at King's College in his early years, and his poem "Saying goodbye to Cambridge again" made the city memorable for many Chinese readers. In his later years, Jin Yong also returned here to pursue his doctoral degree. The colleges were built in different periods, each with its own architectural style, but most retain their medieval charm. The porches and walls of the school buildings are still adorned with simple yet solemn statues and seals, making the visit truly delightful. Some of the colleges popular among travelers includeKing's College, Trinity College, St. John's College, Queen's College, Peterhouse, Christ's College, Clare College, etc. Travelers can choose several colleges of interest to visit in sequence, but they need to check their opening hours in advance. To enjoy the scenery along both banks of the River Cam, punting is a classic activity. You can find boarding spots near Silver Street or Bridge Street. The small boats pass beneath bridges like the Mathematical Bridge at Queen's College with its wooden slats and the covered Bridge of Sighs at St John's College, gliding past the back gardens of King's College, Trinity College, and St John's College. The spires of King's College Chapel and the lawns reflect on the river, evoking the poetic imagery of "Saying Goodbye to Cambridge Again." By the riverside in King's College's back garden stands a stone tablet inscribed with Xu Zhimo's verses. You can either try punting yourself or board a boat guided by a punter who will share stories about the architecture and bridges along the way.Cambridge · 79.2km from England

· Visit the "roof of London" for a complete view of the city, taking in iconic landmarks such as Big Ben and Tower Bridge. ·Come to the restaurant and bar to enjoy delicious delicacies while admiring the stunning scenery outside the window. ·The observation hall also occasionally holds activities like yoga classes, parties, and movie screenings. If you're interested, you can check out the attraction's official website for more info! The glass-clad building of The Shard is the first heavyweight structure completed in central London during the "post-Olympic era." The entire tower takes the form of a massive steel-framed tetrahedron, with its exterior composed of over 11,000 large glass panels forming a curtain wall covering an area equivalent to eight football fields. It presents a spectacular sight against the backdrop of the River Thames. The top of the building is not sealed but remains open in staggered layers, resembling several giant glass fragments supporting each other when viewed from afar. △The Shard is divided into five sections from bottom to top, namely office space, upscale restaurants, the Shangri-La Hotel, high-rise residential areas, and the observation deck at the top. The rational layout ensures every part of the building is fully utilized. △The sunset and night view of the building are breathtaking. △ Chatting with a few friends while admiring the beautiful scenery of London, plus a glass of champagne, must be a wonderful experience!London · 2.7km from England

Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum is located in LondonSouth Kensington,Adjacent to the science museum and the Victoria and Albert MuseumThe museum displays approx. 70 million exhibits on Earth's history and biological evolution, ranging from samples collected by Darwin during his research on evolutionary theory to Jurassic-era dinosaur fossils, as well as various plant, animal, and geological specimens. Museum introduction The museum's exterior is quite magnificent, with its intricate and exquisite carvings on the outer walls, windows, and interior, which are truly awe-inspiring. The Victorian-style architecture resembles a grand cathedral, earning it the nickname "cathedral of nature." The museum houses 20 large exhibition halls, covering themes such as botany, entomology, mineralogy, paleontology, and zoology. Many of the collections hold great historical and scientific value. Museum facilities The museum exhibitions are highly entertaining, featuring various interactive facilities such as weight-comparison testers, giant fetal models, and hands-on gadgets, making visits both fun and educational for adults and children alike. Additionally, the museum regularly organizes a variety of lecture activities to popularize natural science knowledge. Star exhibits Stepping through the main entrance into the soaring central hall, visitors are greeted by the 20 m-long skeleton of a blue whale named "Hope" suspended overhead. This genuine specimen came from a blue whale stranded in Ireland in 1891. In summer 2017, it replaced "Dippy" - the plaster cast diplodocus skeleton that had guarded the hall since 1905 for nearly forty years, whose departure sparked public petitions to keep it. Now a bronze version of Dippy named "Fern" stands in the museum garden, marking its return in another form. On the left is the museum's highly popular dinosaur exhibition hall, mainly displaying paleontological fossil specimens such as ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, the massive Tyrannosaurus rex, the tiny-complexed Scansoriopteryx, the long-tailed pterosaurs, and a complete Archaeopteryx skeleton. On the right are modern animals, including marine invertebrates, fish, birds, and reptiles, with the bird exhibits being particularly outstanding. Above the staircase leading to the second floor in the hall, there is also a statue of Darwin. Second floor of the museum On the second floor, there is a two-story-high mammal exhibition hall, where the most eye-catching features are the giant whale skeletons and models suspended in the air, including a particularly striking model of a Blue Whale. The displays of African savanna animals and Australian marsupials are also impressive. Additionally, there are exhibition halls for minerals, rocks, gems, and marble, where you can see the Delhi Purple Sapphire, a prized museum artifact that was sealed away for decades before being publicly displayed again. This gem is said to carry a "curse," as its successive owners allegedly suffered disasters or sudden misfortunes. From the arched bridge in the middle of the second floor, you can overlook the museum's interior view. The third floor houses exhibits of modern and fossilized plants. Other areas like the Darwin Centre and the Earth Hall are equally fascinating, and a full tour is recommended to take about half a day.London · 3.8km from England

Opening in April 2027, The Queen's State Apartments at Kensington Palace will transform into an immersive multi-sensory experience centred around the life of Queen Mary II, with groups gaining insight into her identity, female relationships, and global and colonial connections. Running until November 2027, an audiovisual experience will allow visitors to enter Mary's inner world and imagination in evocative settings. Kensington Palace is located deep within Kensington Gardens in London, a royal palace with over 300 years of history. "The last princess of Punjab: Sophia Duleep Singh and the women in her life" exhibition opened on March 26, 2026 On March 26, 2026, Kensington Palace will launch a new special exhibition "The last princess of Punjab" to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Indian princess and women's suffrage movement pioneer Sophia Duleep Singh. The exhibition focuses on the life trajectories of six royal women—from Maharani Jind Kaur, the last queen of the Sikh Empire, to Sophia's mother Bamba Müller, who struggled in cultural limbo; from Princess Catherine, who secretly sheltered Jewish refugees, to Princess Bamba, who insisted on returning to her homeland, and finally to Queen Victoria, a godmother who was both a protector and a symbol of empire. Their stories sketch a family epic spanning three generations, interwoven with power, legacy, and resistance. The exhibition brings to life the struggles and connections of these women through a series of precious historical artifacts. Among the highlights are tangible evidence of Princess Sophia's involvement in the women's suffrage movement: the original 1913 photograph of her selling "The Suffragette" newspaper in front of Hampton Court Palace, displayed alongside her 1911 census form bearing her handwritten protest "No vote, no census." These two exhibits stand side by side, silently telling how a royal family member transformed power into a weapon of resistance. The story of Maharani Jind Kaur is told through jewelry. Her emerald necklace, once confiscated by the East India Company, is not just an exquisite ornament but also a symbol of the Sikh Empire's glory and downfall. A makara-headed gold bracelet meant to be passed down between mother and daughter was never delivered due to her imprisonment and her young son being sent to England. It was eventually gifted by her son to his bride, becoming a witness to the family's dispersal. Beside these pieces are letters written by Bamba Müller in English and Punjabi, their words revealing the loneliness of transcending cultural identities. The intimate exhibits in the exhibition reveal the emotional world between these women, where behind the elegance lies their complex situation as "imperial subjects" who were both part of and yet alienated from high society. The display of private letters between Princess Catherine and her female companion Lina unveils a profound relationship hidden by history. The archival records of Catherine secretly sheltering Jewish refugees at home after her companion's death demonstrate her courage in transforming personal grief into humanitarian action. Telling this story at Queen Victoria's childhood residence holds special significance. Curator Polly Putnam noted: "This palace has long been a stage for stories of royal women, but this time we're presenting a different narrative—about women profoundly shaped by imperial history yet never defined by it. They rebuilt themselves in a fractured world, finding strength within constraints."London · 4.3km from England

The Roman Baths is located in the center of Bath, opposite Bath Abbey. It is an attraction in Bath and also the origin of the city's name. This well-preserved Roman bathhouse is a place that draws endless streams of eager visitors. Stepping inside is like witnessing a living portrait of Roman-era life, featuring the sacred spring, Roman temple, Roman bathhouse andThe Roman BathsThe artifacts are quite famous. #Architectural features# The Victorian reception hall at the entrance is magnificent, with arched ceilings carved with scenes of the four seasons. Here, besides purchasing tickets, don't forget to pick up a free audio guide (available in Chinese). However, large luggage storage is not provided, so if needed, you can store bulky luggage elsewhere before exploring. The baths are divided into upper and lower levels. The lower-level pool is connected to an underground hot spring, with emerald-green water that remains warm to this day, bubbling up continuously. It's hard to imagine it has maintained this state for over 10,000 years. The upper and lower levels of the baths are supported by 12 pillars, each topped with statues of varying forms, as the Romans believed the godlike hot springs were a gift from divine protection. From the reception hall, you can proceed to the terrace, which offers a panoramic view of the Great Bath, surrounded by Victorian-era statues dating back to 1894. Take a moment here to admire the overall grandeur of the Great Bath. #Sacred spring# The sacred spring is located at the heart of The Roman Baths, with natural water maintaining a constant temperature of 46°C. Water gushes from underground day and night, with excess flowing into the original Roman drainage system. The museum features a glass floor, allowing visitors to clearly see the bath's water pipes below, which also house treasures like carved gemstones and tin masks, well worth a look. #Great bath# The Great Bath is the highlight for most visitors. This massive pool is lined with 45 lead slabs and has a depth of 1.6 m. Steps are installed around it for easy access. The pool is filled with abundant spring water, its surface steaming. A large stone slab lies horizontally where the hot spring flows out, serving as a diving platform for entertainment in ancient times. From 10:00 to 17:00 daily and during July and August evenings, staff dress in ancient Roman attire, immersing visitors in the distant Roman era. The Great Bath is flanked by the East Bath and West Bath, along with bathing suites and a high-temperature bath. For more historical insights, visit The Roman Baths Museum, which houses composite models of the temple and baths, as well as exhibits of comedy films related to ancient Rome.United Kingdom · Bath

Seven Sisters Country Park

53 reviews
Seven Sisters Country Park borders the English Channel and is named after the seven connected chalk cliffs within the park. Located on the coastline of East Sussex, these cliffs are a geological feature formed by the long-term erosion of the South Downs by the sea. The cliffs are composed of chalk formed by the remains of marine micro-organisms deposited tens of millions of years ago; they are entirely white, creating a striking contrast with the emerald green grass on the cliff tops and the blue sea below. The Cuckmere Haven area within the park is one of the most recognizable views along the entire coastline. The winding stream flows through the chalk valley into the sea, and the estuary mudflats and surrounding chalk grasslands together form an important ecological habitat where various seabirds and migratory birds can be observed year-round. The Coastguard Cottages by the estuary are a classic spot for photographing the panoramic view of the seven cliffs; looking east from here, you can see the full silhouette of the cliffs arranged in sequence. The South Downs Way, which winds along the cliff tops, is a classic hiking route for experiencing the full view of the cliffs. Walking along the undulating cliff ridges, you have an unobstructed view of the English Channel on one side and open grasslands and pastures on the other. The cliffs are constantly changing shape due to continuous sea erosion, and cliff faces occasionally collapse into the sea, which means the silhouette of the cliff line you see each time you visit may be slightly different. The Seven Sisters cliffs have also appeared in many films and television shows; because the cliffs are white and free from modern architectural interference, they are often used as a stand-in for the White Cliffs of Dover. The coastal background of the Quidditch World Cup stadium in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," the final scene of "Atonement," and the opening shots of "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" were all filmed here.Seaford · 84.9km from England

He even recited the poem "Saying Goodbye to Cambridge Again" unexpectedly 🤣 Qianmo Transportation 14:00-14:45 Everyone's rowing skills were top-notch! Hopefully next time I can get a better view.

My first stop after arriving in London, and the scenery was great! 👍 I booked a ticket for 7:15 PM, but they wouldn't let us in at 7 PM, so they were quite strict about the time. We used an elevator to go upstairs, but it wasn't anything special. I originally hoped to see both the daytime and nighttime views from 7 PM, but after waiting for ages, it still wasn't dark. Then I checked and found out that sunset was actually at 8:22 PM. Not wanting to wait that long, I went downstairs early. If you're just sightseeing, about 30 minutes is enough. There are many places selling drinks, so if you want to enjoy the view while having a drink, you can spend more time there. However, if you want to see both the daytime and nighttime views, I recommend going up after 8 PM (I went on April 30th).

Originally built in the 1st century AD (during the Roman occupation of Britain), it was constructed around natural geothermal springs and dedicated to Sulis Minerva, the goddess of Celtic and Roman fusion. It served as a religious sanctuary, a spa resort, and a public bath for all. After the Roman withdrawal in the 4th century, it was gradually buried and excavated in the 18th century. Today, it is a World Heritage Site and a landmark of Bath.
