Ordered the trip via trip.com and the driver arrived at a different hotel. No one called, no one answered our calls. Fortunately, the trip.com assisted with solving the issue pretty well and we went on this trip on a different day. The guide, Ken, was a lot of fun. The trip itself was interesting despite the long distances. We bought yogurt and cheese on the farm, tasted good. The lunch was good.

I think this is a very worthwhile part of Kota Kinabalu; the fireflies are beautiful, and the tour guide is excellent. Aside from the slightly bumpy ride on the main road, there are no other downsides.

Although I made the reservation the day before, the guide arrived in the hotel lobby five minutes early to pick me up. The road to the boat dock was not particularly smooth, so it was quite bumpy, but we arrived earlier than scheduled. The wait time before boarding was short, and the tour was smooth throughout, allowing me to participate with peace of mind. The first tour was an animal observation cruise, and there were many highlights, including monkeys and buffalo. It was great that we were given more time to observe them than the other nearby boats. The weather was unfortunate for sunset, but we were able to take plenty of time to take photos on the beautiful beach. On my second trip, I was able to see many more beautiful fireflies than I expected, which was a great experience. The food was also delicious. Of the various tours available, I was glad I chose this one, which was mid-priced. I highly recommend it.

I bought the Mangrove Island + Mangrove Forest package; you absolutely must buy the package, otherwise going to the mangrove forest alone is too much of a hassle, requiring a 1.5-hour drive each way. The overall itinerary was well-organized, with door-to-door pick-up and drop-off. Mangrove Island is beautiful and worth a visit. I didn't see any proboscis monkeys at the mangrove forest, but there were many fireflies, and the guide was engaging, making for a pleasant experience.

Our family of three set off and arranged a car to pick it up without crowding a car with others. The driver is a Chinese from Grandpa's generation who took root there. So Mandarin, Cantonese Malay, English, no communication barrier-free, it was raining all the way, fortunately, I met a lot of long-nosed monkeys, the tour guide said that the luckiest boat people, they have not encountered a lot, fireflies are also for children to go, Children have never seen fireflies now, and there are quite a lot, more than I saw when I was a child.

Highly recommend the Mermaid Island day trip! It features a fully Chinese-speaking guide, complete snorkeling equipment, a buffet lunch with some fresh seafood like shrimp and crab, and free beach activities including a bubble machine. Excellent value for money!
