Reviews: PR1: Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo Guided Hiking Tour
Guest User2026-10-27
the guide was absolutely amazing, making sure everybody was comfortable with what we were doing .gave great safety advice and was very knowledgeable about local plants and wildlife. the hike was spectacular, and tough as we expected. my only slight concern was that the minibus we travelled back in had an obvious brake pad issue on the back end.

Where do I begin? Nico and David made our dream holiday adventure into a reality. We completed the peak-to-peak sunrise hike. Both guides were professional yet extremely welcoming and friendly. They were punctual, kept fantastic communication with us until other time of our trip, were extremely knowledgeable throughout the hike and did everything they could to accommodate our needs. During the hike, the pace was adapted to suit our pace of walking and there was a good balance of information and quiet time provided, meaning we could learn whilst also having time to soak up the views and focus on the hike! We felt super safe throughout our experience and felt as though we had the ‘upper hand’ by having a tour guide (top tips for the walk, best parts of the island and a personal photographer!). Additionally, we stopped off at Santana on the way home and got to explore the village market as well as the famous sights. Lastly, our tour guide was able to capture a truly special moment for us, that will last a lifetime. We are ever grateful for the videography skills! Nothing was too much to ask and we could not recommend the team highly enough. We will never forget this experience! Thank you so much.

Reviews: Pico Arieiro To Pico Ruivo/With Trail entry Fee Included PR 1 + 1.2

The hike was excellently guided – the shuttle picked us up from a convenient point, took us to the start of the route, and back again. Upon arrival, a restroom break was included (1 euro). The guides monitored the group throughout the entire hike, counting us, waiting for stragglers, and explaining the route ahead before each section. Toward the end of the hike, I was tired and trailed behind, but the guide walked with me – never rushed me, always offering breaks when I needed them and encouraging me. In the final section of the hike (after the most challenging part, the ascent), there's a break near the hut; I had time to eat and rest for 30 minutes. An optional 500m climb to the peak was also available at this point. After the hut, the trail is quite easy, and the guide told us about some delicious berries growing in the parking lot.

A beautiful hike through stunning scenery. Joachim was a fantastic guide, and the group was small and very friendly. The hike is manageable even for beginners, although a certain level of fitness is required.
