Jieyang Ancient City is located in the area of Donghuan Road, Zhongshan Street, Rongcheng District, Jieyang City, Guangdong Province. Situated in the middle and lower reaches of the Rongjiang River, it is embraced by the North and South Rivers like jade belts, with crisscrossing streams and rivers, earning it the reputation of "Lingnan Water City" and "Water Lotus". The ancient city preserves a wealth of historical and cultural relics, including national key cultural relics protection units such as Jieyang Confucian Temple, City God Temple, and Jinxian Gate. Among them, Jieyang Confucian Temple, built in the Song Dynasty, is one of the largest and best-preserved historical building complexes of its kind in Lingnan. Jinxian Gate, built in the first year of the Tianqi reign of the Ming Dynasty (1621), is a rare single building in China that combines a city gate, gate tower, and pavilion. "Qiaolou Xiaojiao" (the corner of the watchtower at dawn) is one of the eight ancient scenic spots of Jieyang. In recent years, the local government has implemented a protection and revitalization project based on the concept of "restoring the old as it was" to restore the ancient city's appearance. Today, Jieyang Ancient City, with its solemn Confucian Temple, majestic City God statue, continuous arcade buildings, and tranquil waterways, is an ideal place to experience the history and culture of Chaoshan and its everyday life.

Jieyang Confucius Temple was first built in the 10th year of the Shaoxing reign of the Southern Song Dynasty. Since then, it has been repaired many times throughout history, with its current layout primarily established during the major renovations in the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty. As the official school and place for Confucius worship in ancient Jieyang, the entire complex is divided into central, eastern, and western sections: the central section is the Confucius Temple, while the eastern and western sections were the former county school and auxiliary buildings. With over 100 rooms and covering an area of approx. 20,000 square meters, it is of considerable scale among similar ancient architectural complexes in Lingnan. Enter the courtyard from the spirit wall inscribed with "Taihe Yuanqi" and the Lingxing Gate, cross the Panchi Pool, and you will arrive at the Dacheng Hall, the core of the entire complex. Inside the hall, there is a statue of Confucius, and behind it are buildings such as the Chongsheng Shrine and Zunjing Pavilion. Traditional cultural activities such as the opening pen ceremony, classic reading, and Sinology classes are often held here.

"Jinxian Gate Tower", also known as "Qiaolou Xiaojiao", refers to Jinxian Gate, located in Rongcheng District, Jieyang. The gate was first built in the first year of the Tianqi reign of the Ming Dynasty (1621 AD), boasting a long history and a rich legendary aura. Jinxian Gate Tower has three levels: the lower level is the barbican gate, the middle level is the gate tower, and the upper level is a glazed pavilion, adorned with vermilion lacquered railings on all four sides, magnificent and imposing. At night, it is even more dazzling under the illumination of landscape lights. Jinxian Gate is located in the center of Jieyang City. Locals affectionately call it "Red Pavilion," a landmark for them and a must-visit for tourists. Jinxian Gate also has a turbulent history. Legend has it that during the Tang and Song dynasties, seven renowned scholars emerged from this area. They believed this location was suitable for building a city gate, so they carved a stone plaque inscribed with "Jinxian Gate" and buried it underground. During the Ming dynasty, seven more scholars emerged from this area, and they chose this spot to build a city gate. They unearthed the original stone plaque, and thus, this extraordinary "Jinxian Gate" came into being.
