Cinque Terre

4.7/5

Cinque Terre is located on the Riviera Ligure and consists of five fishing villages built on cliffs: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Travel between the villages is mainly by coastal railway, ferry, and hiking trails, which has helped preserve the old appearance of the fishing villages: red, yellow, orange, and pink houses are stacked layer by layer along the steep slopes, extending all the way to the rocks by the sea. Each of the five villages has its own highlights: Monterosso al Mare is nestled in a bay and features a rare, expansive sandy beach in this area, perfect for swimming; Vernazza embraces a natural small harbor, and looking down from the Ruins of Doria Tower on the heights behind the village, the entire bay is in full view; Corniglia is the only village of the five that is not directly on the sea, sitting alone on a cliff top about 100m high; the colorful houses of Manarola are embedded in dark rocks, and at dusk, the village and the sea in the same frame make for a classic photo opportunity; Riomaggiore is located at the southern end of the five villages, with its main street sloping down to a harbor filled with small boats. The hillsides also hide another aspect of this coastline: over hundreds of years, ancestors built extensive dry-stone walls on the steep slopes and created layers of terraces to grow grapes, turning the cliffs into arable land. The sweet wine Sciacchetrà, made from air-dried grapes, is produced in small quantities and is a representative local sweet wine; paired with Monterosso al Mare anchovies, Genoese-style pesto, and focaccia, it makes for an authentic Ligurian seafood meal. The classic coastal hiking route connecting the villages offers an overlook of the entire colorful coastline from above the cliffs.Monterosso Al Mare · 15.2km from La Spezia

Riomaggiore is an iconic village at the southern end ofCinque Terre. The town is nestled between the mountains and the sea, with colorful, well-arranged houses cascading down the steep cliffs on both sides, complemented by the surging sea to create a distinctive Mediterranean fishing village character. The village has hilly terrain, with quaint streets winding along the hillside, connecting the castle on the slope to the small pier by the coast. Fishing boats come and go by the sea, and the cliffs embrace the blue water, showcasing a rich coastal atmosphere. Climb to the high points on the hillside for a panoramic view of the town's colorful rooftops and the sea meeting the sky. The Via dell' Amore connecting neighboring villages is built along the cliffs as a coastal trail. Strolling here, with cliffs and rocks on one side and the vast ocean on the other, the unique view of the mountains and sea offers a rich natural experience.Riomaggiore · 6.9km from La Spezia

One of the five towns of the Cinque Terre. Corniglia is built on a coastal rock, at a higher altitude in the Cinque Terre; the town's colourful four-storey buildings contrast with the grey and black of the rock, adding a lot of flair to the town's dramatic location. Fieski, the town's main street, is lined with charming homes and shops.Corniglia · 9.3km from La Spezia

The Path of Love is a narrow path connecting Manarola and Riomaggiore. It is the shorter and more suitable one of the hiking trails in the Cinque Terre, taking only 20 minutes to walk the whole way. Although the road is not long, the scenery is very pleasant: there are huge stone walls and terraced fields on one side, and cliffs on the other side, and the sound of sea water hitting the shore seems to be close to my ears. The Road of Love was originally built for the needs of the railway construction between the two villages. This is not romantic, but it does not affect it as a sweet spot in the Cinque Terre: dense concentric lock walls, oath-carved cactus Ye, the messages and graffiti on the porch, as well as the couples approaching in twos and threes, express the beauty and magic of love all the time and everywhere. The stone chair carved into the silhouette of a kiss is a symbol of the road of love, and you must not miss the photo here.Province of La Spezia · 7.3km from La Spezia

Monterosso, the northernmost and oldest village in the Cinque Terre. Take a car or drive from the direction of Genoa to the village of the Cinque Terre that arrives earlier, and it is also a small town with a beach in the Cinque Terre. The town is divided into two parts, the old and the new, the new part of Fegina and the old part of Monterosso, connected by an underground tunnel. The new area of Monterosso has the beach in the Cinque Terre - Fijina Beach. Along the beach, there is a long walking path leading to a tunnel through which you can see the old fishing village of Monterosso.Monterosso Al Mare · 15km from La Spezia

Piazza del Duomo is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1982. The square has been the city's religious center since the Middle Ages. In the late 13th century, surrounding residential buildings were demolished to build the new cathedral and bell tower, and it was gradually expanded over the following centuries to its current size. The square brings together three iconic buildings: theCathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Bell Tower, and The Baptistery of San Giovanni. Together, they form the "Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore complex," showcasing the evolution of architectural art in Florence from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The dome designed by Brunelleschi stands over 90 m high and is a striking visual focal point on the square's skyline. Historic buildings such as the Archbishop's Palace, the Cathedral Museum, and the Bigallo Museum are also located around the square. Standing in the center of the square and looking around, the facades of buildings from different eras and styles complement each other, making it a key location for experiencing the urban landscape of Florence.Italy · Florence

The Miracle Square is the top priority of visiting Pisa. The four major buildings on the square - the Cathedral of Pisa, the Baptistery, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the cemetery are all artistic masterpieces in the history of architecture. The square was one of the centers of the essence of medieval art and had a profound influence on subsequent architectural design, and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987. The square takes its name from a description in a novel by the Italian writer and poet Gabriel D'Annunzio. The Pisa Cathedral in the center of the Pisa Cathedral Square was built in the 12th century AD and is a masterpiece of medieval Romanesque architecture. The mosaic decoration inside the church is mixed with Byzantine style, forming its unique "Pisa Romanesque style". Opposite the Baptistery of Pisa Cathedral is the Baptistery, which mixes Romanesque and Gothic styles. You can visit the middle of the Baptistery along the spiral staircase inside the Baptistery. The cylindrical structure, double dome and white marble make the interior of the baptistery even more beautiful. Leaning Tower of Pisa Behind the Leaning Tower of Pisa is the well-known Leaning Tower of Pisa, which itself is the bell tower of the cathedral. In the early stage of construction, the leaning tower tilted an average of 1 mm per year, and the work was stopped for a while, and the repair work has continued to this day. The rectangular building next to the Pisa Cemetery Church is the Pisa Cemetery. The tombstones, sculptures and frescoes on the cloister are also worth seeing. In addition, there is a tourist rest area on the large lawn of Miracle Square, where you can take various photos with the Leaning Tower of Pisa, buy souvenirs and snacks.Pisa · 62.2km from La Spezia

Santa Maria delle Grazie is located in the west of Milan, on the south side of the Sforza Castle. This red Catholic building consists of a church and a Dominican monastery. It is famous for the fresco "The Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci in the monastery's refectory. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. . The Last Supper "The Last Supper" was created by Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century, using innovative and bold painting techniques combining oil and tempera, creating a unique perspective effect, but also easily eroded. On August 15, 1943, the church and the congregation were bombed by British and American aircraft, and most of the canteen of the congregation was destroyed, but the wall on which The Last Supper was located survived. Centuries later, 80 percent of the painting's colors had faded, and restoration work began in 1977 and continued for 22 years. At present, the number of visitors is strictly controlled, and the number of visitors cannot exceed 30 at a time. In addition to the "Last Supper", the church building itself is also worth seeing. The church was built under the auspices of Duke Sforzesco and was finally completed in 1490. It was once used as the tomb of the Sforzesco family. Later, when the French invaded, the cultural relics and treasures in the church were looted, but the exquisite dome and frescoes were still preserved. The sacristy is now the Dominican cultural center, and often holds some salons and art exhibitions.Italy · Milan

Cinque Terre, located on the Italian coast in the province of La Spezia, Liguria, is a collective name for five cliffside villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. In 1997, Cinque Terre, along with Portovenere, the Palmaria Islands, Tino, and Tinetto, were nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status, and in 1999, they were designated a national park. Many tourists choose to hike among these five villages to experience the beauty of the Italian countryside. For those who prefer a less strenuous experience, shorter hiking trails or train journeys are available. Alternatively, one can stay in a guesthouse for a while, focusing solely on the charm of the fishing villages.

The scenery here is beautiful. The small houses on the cliff face the sea. Bougainvillea blooms in spring and the sea water is warm in summer. It is a place that photography enthusiasts like to go to, because you can capture beautiful scenery with just a casual shot here.

The Via dei Fiori is the shortest and easiest section of the Cinque Terre trail, about one kilometer long. The road is carved out of a cliff not too high from the ground, with cliffs on one side and waves on the other, and the surrounding guardrails are hung with love locks.

This is the fifth village of the Cinque Terre. In fact, the third, fourth and fifth villages all get off at the same stop, but they just go in different directions. You must make sure you know before you go, so as not to go the wrong way. Compared with the first and second villages, this place is not as famous. Generally speaking, it is a village with a beach. You can't go to the sea in winter, and most of the shops on the beach are closed, only one or two are open. I had a cup of espresso. I rested for a while and then left. As a result, the train was delayed and I waited for half an hour. There was a car out of the village.

The queue was quite long, and you need to make sure you're in the correct line before you start queuing… Queues at tourist attractions in Europe often consist of several separate lines with unclear signage. I didn't choose to climb the bell tower or the dome, but the museum included in the ticket is worth a good look; personally, I felt the environment was quite nice.

Landmark Significance: As the city center of Milan, the square is an irregularly shaped polygon covering approximately 12,000 square meters. It was the coronation site of the first king after the unification of Italy (Napoleon was crowned here in 1805) and is now part of a World Heritage Site.
