Turning Torso is a landmark of Malmo and one of the tallest modern buildings in the city. Located near the beach, it looks like a giant twisting its waist from a distance. The entire building rotates 90 degrees, making it a highly creative piece of architecture. Please note that the building contains apartments, offices, and meeting rooms, so you may not be able to enter freely for a visit, but taking photos from the outside is also a great option.Malmo · 2km from downtown

New Harbor

New Harbor is a 17th-century canal district that retains its historic charm to this day. Colorful old townhouses and historic mansions line both sides of the canal, their vibrant facades reflecting on the water, creating a striking contrast in architectural styles. The north side is bustling with numerous bars and restaurants, making it perfect for casual gatherings, while the south side is relatively quiet. Both sides offer unique charm for photography. Several historic wooden ships are moored in the canal year-round and can be viewed up close. The fairy tale author Hans Christian Andersen once lived here, and a commemorative plaque in the district records this history. Taking a canal cruise from here is a classic way to experience the charm of the city's waterways. You can explore by walking along the canal or by taking a boat to admire the architecture from the water.Copenhagen · 27.2km from Malmo

Amalienborg Palace

Amalienborg is where the Danish royal family lives. During the reign of Christian VII in 1794, a fire broke out in Christiansborg, forcing the royal family to relocate to Amalienborg for refuge. Later, Frederick V decided to build it into a Rococo style building, so Amalienborg, which was originally four aristocratic mansions, became a magnificent palace. In honor of the king, an equestrian statue of Frederick V was built, which stands in the center of the Octagon at the Royal Palace. The four old buildings are the Palace of Christian VII built in 1754, which is now the reception hall of the royal family, the Palace of Christian VIII, the Palace of Christian IX completed in 1758, and the Philippine residence where Queen Ingrid lived. The Palace of Theresa VIII. Christian VIII's palace was officially opened in 1994, displaying objects used by the royal family until 1947. When the Queen of Denmark is in the palace, the national flag will be raised on the roof. At that time, you can know whether the Queen is in the palace in front of you. Maybe, she is quietly looking at the square with a telescope. Oh crowd. The Royal Band will depart from the palace at 11:30 in the morning and return to the palace after detouring around the old city, and will perform the changing of the guard ceremony on the square at 12:00. Don't miss out on such a special program.Copenhagen · 27.2km from Malmo

Øresund Bridge spans the Oresund Strait, connecting the two metropolitan areas of Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, and Malmo, a city in Sweden. Øresund Bridge consists of two parts: a cable-stayed bridge and an undersea tunnel. The 8 km long bridge is mostly located in Sweden, extending to the artificial island of Peberholm (in Denmark) in the strait. Trains between Malmo and Copenhagen run across the bridge, which is very convenient. Vessels typically pass through the Drogden Strait, with the undersea tunnel located directly below; the view of the Øresund Bridge from a distance is spectacular.Limhamn · 6.8km from downtown

Malmo's small square is not far from the city hall. There are open-air cafes and restaurants on the square, and there are old buildings around. Locals often choose to drink coffee and chat here, which can be said to be a very lively place in Malmö. And it is also close to the pedestrian street, whether you are tired from shopping, or you can go shopping after eating. There is a giant table lamp on the square, which was built in 2006 and is 5.8 meters high. Standing under this huge table lamp, it seems to be in a fairy tale world.Malmo · 336m from downtown
Oresund Strait

Oresund Strait

12 reviews
The Oresund Strait on the west side of Scania, Sweden, is an important waterway connecting the Baltic Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. It connects Zealand, Denmark, and Scania, Sweden, with a total length of approx. 110 km and a water depth of up to 28 m in some areas. As one of the most strategically valuable shipping channels in Northern Europe, the strait sees over 100 vessels pass through daily, making it one of the busiest international shipping lanes in the world. The Danish capital, Copenhagen, and Sweden's third-largest city, Malmo, are located on opposite shores, and the two cities are connected by land via theØresund Bridge. The natural view of the strait presents a diverse charm. The west bank in Scania features pastoral scenery interwoven with gentle hills, golden rapeseed fields, and white sandy beaches. In spring, melting snow creates cascading waterfalls; in the fall, colorful forests are reflected in the clear water; and in winter, frozen lakes shimmer against snow-capped mountains. Historic port cities such as Helsingborg are scattered along the coast, preserving cultural heritage sites like stone churches. As a natural boundary between Scania and Denmark, the Oresund Strait not only handles over 40% of maritime trade in Northern Europe but also sustains bird migration routes and marine biodiversity between the two shores through its ecological corridor, serving as a model for the fusion of nature and culture.Malmo · 0m from downtown
The Little Mermaid
No. 5 of Best Things to Do in Denmark

The Little Mermaid

6.6
4.1/5
554 reviews
The Little Mermaid is located in Langelinie Park in the northeast of downtown Copenhagen, Denmark. It was cast by a Danish sculptor based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Little Mermaid." The bronze statue was unveiled in Langelinie Park in 1913. With over a century of history, it is a world-famous bronze statue and a symbol of Copenhagen, attracting countless tourists. The Little Mermaid is only 1.5m tall, about the height of a teenager. From a distance, this human-bodied, fish-tailed The Little Mermaid sits on a huge rock, looking quiet, elegant, and leisurely. If you look closer, however, The Little Mermaid appears to be a sad young girl. Visitors here can observe the facial features of The Little Mermaid in detail. This beautiful statue has had its head cut off by thieves multiple times, so the head of The Little Mermaid you see now was replaced later and is not the original. Concerned that too many tourists might damage the bronze statue, the local government relocated The Little Mermaid further out into the sea in March 2006. Today, when you come to Langelinie Park, you can only view The Little Mermaid in the water from outside the fence along the shore and take photos with it from across the fence. Please note that there are many tourists outside the fence, so please be careful when taking photos.Copenhagen · 27.2km from Malmo

The revolving building is actually just a check-in point. You can't go inside, so there's no need to go there on purpose. I just walked here while wandering aimlessly. In fact, this building is really tall and you can see it when you come out of the station.

Nyhavn, Denmark is a landmark attraction in Copenhagen. It is an artificial canal built between 1669 and 1673. The canal is lined with colorful townhouses from the 17th and 18th centuries, which are rich in color and form a unique landscape. Andersen once lived here and created many classic fairy tales, adding cultural heritage to it. You can stroll and take a boat tour here to experience the rich Nordic style and cozy atmosphere.

Malmöhus is an ancient European city. The Malmöhus Castle here has a history of more than 800 years. It is an ancient European noble castle. The whole castle is very beautiful. Now it is a museum displaying the luxurious life scenes of the nobles at that time. It is worth visiting.

On the way to see the Little Mermaid, I happened to catch the changing of guards at the gate of Amalienborg. Since we couldn't enter, we just watched the changing of guards for a while. The soldiers marched in unison, and the unique ceremony looked quite interesting, attracting many tourists to stop and watch.

The Øresundsbron Bridge is a combined railway and highway bridge across Sweden and Denmark. The bridge is about 8 kilometers from the Swedish coast to the artificial island in the middle of the strait. It was opened to traffic on July 1, 2000. Now there are many windmills beside the bridge, with modern scenery.

Not many people come to this city to travel, so even the square seems quite deserted. Moreover, this square feels like a street park. There are no iconic buildings and it feels average.

I visited the Little Mermaid statue in Denmark on a solo trip during winter. The cold breeze from the sea and the quiet atmosphere made the experience feel even more magical. The statue itself is smaller than I expected, but its delicate expression and connection to Andersen’s fairytale give it a unique charm. Since it was off-season, there weren’t many tourists, which allowed me to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. It’s a simple yet iconic landmark worth seeing at least once.
