Ushguli

5.0/5

Ushguli is nestled at the end of the Enguri River valley in the Svaneti mountains of Georgia, backed by Mount Shkhara at an altitude of over 5,000m. Situated at an elevation of over 2,100m, it comprises four old stone villages—Murkmeli, Chazhashi, Chvibiani, and Zhibiani—and is one of the few permanently inhabited high-altitude villages in Europe. The iconic scenery here consists of hundreds of Svan towers: the tall, slender medieval stone towers were once fortresses for villagers to watch for enemies and shelter from snowstorms. Today, they still stand crowded together with churches and houses on the same hillside, while cattle and sheep roam freely in the stone-paved alleys between the towers. Walking through them feels like stumbling into a medieval mountain village that is still living its daily life.Mestia · 28.3km from downtown

Koruldi Lakes is one of the one-day hiking routes in Mestia. There are two lakes on the snow-capped mountain. The lake itself is very small. The scenery along the road is the same as the reflection of the snow-capped mountains. The section from the Cross (Cross) on the mountain to the top of the mountain is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, especially wonderful.Mestia · 5km from downtown

Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi

Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi stands on Elia Hill on the left bank of the Mtkvari River and is the main cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church. The church adopts the traditional Georgian cross-dome architectural style, with the central dome covered in gold leaf and a gilded cross standing at the top, reaching a total height of nearly 100 m including the underground section. Thanks to its massive size and commanding position, its golden dome can be seen from almost anywhere in the city of Tbilisi. The interior of the church is also worth a close look. In the northeast corner, there is a mosaic icon of the Virgin Mary; the southeast corner houses a display case with a cross and a handwritten Bible; and the northwest corner displays a model of the holy city of Jerusalem made of mica. The church also has several chapels underground, and the main murals were painted by contemporary Georgian artists in a traditional style. In addition to the main cathedral, the entire complex includes auxiliary facilities such as a separate bell tower, a monastery, and a seminary, which are quite impressive in scale. As the mother church of the Georgian Orthodox Church, the cathedral hosts Orthodox rituals and religious activities all year round. The interior murals and mosaic decorations create a solemn religious atmosphere, and from the cathedral's platform, you can overlook the city of Tbilisi and the scenery on both banks of the Kura River.Georgia · Tbilisi

Ananuri Fortress Complex is located on the banks of the Aragvi River, approx. 70 km north of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, and adjacent to the Zhinvali Reservoir. It is a nearly unavoidable stop when traveling north along the Georgian Military Highway toward Kazbegi. Since the 13th century, this has been a castle and military fortress for the feudal lords of the Aragvi dynasty, with the existing walls and main structures mostly dating back to the 16th–17th centuries. It consists of two castles, upper and lower, and continuous walls. The lower castle with its round tower is now just ruins, while the side along the ridge, along with the square Sheupovari tower, is well-preserved. Climbing the tower offers a panoramic view of the turquoise Zhinvali Reservoir and the mountains on the opposite bank. The scene featuring the walls, church domes, and the surrounding landscape makes this a popular location for travelers in Georgia.Georgia · Ananuri

Mt Kazbek is located on the border between northern Georgia and Russia. It is a dormant volcano with a double-coned mountain body at an elevation of approx. 5,000m. It is the third-highest peak in Georgia and one of the few volcanic cones in the Caucasus Mountains. The peak is covered in snow year-round, and multiple glaciers hang from the mountain. The surrounding area features deep valleys, glaciers, meadows, and alpine rock faces. Due to its high altitude, the summit is covered in snow year-round, creating a sharp contrast between the white snow-capped peak and the dark rocks, which looks particularly spectacular in clear weather.Georgia · Kazbegi

Bridge of Peace is a pedestrian bridge over the Kura River in downtown Tbilisi, featuring an arched body with a steel frame and glass canopy. The bridge is approximately 150m long, connecting Rike Park on the riverbank with the streets of the Old Town, and is also considered a pedestrian passage between the new city and the old city. It was designed by an Italian architect. The entire steel structure was prefabricated in Italy and then transported to Tbilisi for on-site assembly. After its completion in 2010, it quickly became a highly recognizable modern landmark of the city. Its rounded, undulating shape is often compared to a marine creature arching its back, which is why it earned the nickname "Shrimp Bridge."Georgia · Tbilisi

10 reviews
Ali & Nino Statue stands on the seaside promenade along the Black Sea in Batumi, a kinetic sculpture created by Georgian sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze that has become one of the city's landmarks. It consists of 2 approx. 8-meter-tall figures made of layered steel plates that perform a cycle of "meeting and parting" every 10 minutes or so: the 2 figures slowly slide toward each other, their steel plates interlocking and passing through one another as if merging into one, yet they never truly touch before retreating to their original positions, freezing the novel's tragic ending of unrequited love into a visible daily routine. After dark, the statue lights up with changing colors, reflecting the sunset glow over the Black Sea and the coastal nightscape, making it a great time for photos.Georgia · Batumi

Adjacent to the Tbilisi sulfur bath area, its commanding location offers a view of the winding Kura River, the dense buildings of the Old Town, the Bridge of Peace, and the distant mountain view. Its history dates back to the 4th century, and it has since undergone expansions and renovations across various historical periods, witnessing the development of Tbilisi under the influence of different dynasties and cultures. Combining historical relics, religious culture, and panoramic city views, it is an important place to understand the history and urban landscape of Tbilisi.Georgia · Tbilisi

it is not an easy hike from mestia to lake koruldi, with 1400m of elevation in 8.5km. But the view on the way was totally worth it. it took us 6 and a half hour to do the round trip. we went there by May, the lake was still covered by ice and snow, therefore cannot be seen. But we enjoy so much along the trail.

The most striking feature of the church is undoubtedly its pure gold-clad dome, dazzling in the sunlight and exuding a gentle solemnity when illuminated at night. It's worth noting that the church's construction was primarily funded by donations from ordinary citizens—it's not just a building, but a symbol of Georgians rediscovering their faith and solidifying their national identity after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

We stopped at Ananuri on the way along the Georgian Military Highway in July. The fortress sits right by the water with mountains behind it — a very picturesque spot. Inside there's an old church, and you can climb the towers for views over the reservoir. Entry is free. It gets crowded, especially during the day, but the grounds are large enough. Easy to combine with a trip to Kazbek — it's right on the way. I'd recommend making a stop.

One moment it was misty and rainy, then the sky cleared up and the colors came out [grin][grin] Kazbek, the drivers are here [proud][proud][proud] A few random photos. One day, it felt like there's more to the Duku Highway than just the four seasons.

【Ali and Nino】 Ali, a descendant of a famous Muslim family in Azerbaijan who was influenced by Shia since childhood, and Nino, a Georgian princess who believed in Christianity, fell in love. Due to different beliefs, family obstruction, and secular public opinion, their love was eventually destroyed under the attack of the tide of the times. This may be the most romantic sculpture in the world. Every evening, they slowly move towards each other, stare, hug, kiss, penetrate each other, and then say goodbye and leave. Over and over again, even if you know the ending, you still look forward to it silently! Batumi landmark building 【Ali and Nino】 does not rotate during the day, but starts to rotate in the evening, rotating once every 15 minutes. It is almost invisible to the naked eye, so if you want to capture all the movements, it is best to use the "time-lapse photography" function of the mobile phone, but it is really uncomfortable to hold the mobile phone in your hand for 15 minutes, so it is best to use a tripod. The Mother Fortress is located high in Georgia, from where you can see the whole of Georgia. In the evening, you can take a cable car up the mountain to wait for the sun to set and watch the sunset. The temperature in Tbilisi at night is only over 20 degrees in this season, which is really comfortable.
