Port Arthur is Australia's largest and most intact convict settlement, forming a key part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Australian Convict Sites. Discover iconic ruins, over 30 historic buildings, immersive house museums, compelling exhibitions, and guided tours complemented by a scenic harbour cruise and self-guided audio experience. Set within 146 hectares of spectacular landscape, heritage gardens, and walking trails, visitors can relax and enjoy breathtaking views, shop for locally-made products and savour local flavours in our cafés and at our acclaimed 1830 Restaurant & Bar. More than 300,000 people visit Port Arthur every year, but the now sunny port has a dark history. In 1930, Captain Governor George Arthur chose the Tasman Peninsula in south-east Tasmania to hold prisoners who had reoffended during the colonial period. The peninsula and the mainland are only connected by a land less than 100 meters wide (that is, the Eagle Neck Gorge). From 1830 to 1877, 12,500 prisoners spent hard sentences in Port Arthur. The Tourist Services Center is located in the Port Arthur Historic Site building. Downstairs is a gallery with detailed explanations, where visitors can learn about the suffering of prisoners in exile in Tasmania. You can also take a cruise around the Island of the Dead (Island of the Dead) in the harbour, and if you are interested, you can visit the island. This is a hugely popular excursion in Port Arthur, a 90-minute ghost tour with a guided tour of many of the old buildings and stories of some of the creepy events that have happened here. If interested, be sure to book before 16:00 on the day.Australia · Port Arthur

Mount Wellington, at an elevation of approx. 1,271 m, is a high mountain towering behind the city of Hobart. On clear days, it is almost always visible when looking west from the city. Hobart is nestled between the mountains and the water. Standing on the mountain, you can overlook the entire city, the River Derwent, and the surrounding bays, with views extending to the hills and wilderness of southern Tasmania. The road up the mountain features multiple lookouts at various altitudes where you can stop and take in the views. At the summit, there is an enclosed, windproof observation shelter, which is the primary spot for panoramic views of Hobart. Beyond sightseeing, this is also a popular destination for outdoor activities around Hobart. On the eastern hillside, there are columnar rock formations known as the "Organ Pipes," rising over 100 m. Multiple hiking trails wind around them, ranging from easy forest paths to long-distance loops that require some physical stamina, and mountain biking enthusiasts also frequently come here to challenge themselves.Wellington Park · 58.2km from Mount Field

Maria Island National Park

Maria Island National Park is located on Maria Island off the east coast of Tasmania. The island is car-free, and there are no shops or restaurants on the island. Visitors take a ferry from the town of Triabunna to reach the island and explore by walking or cycling. Therefore, the ferry must be booked in advance, and food and drinking water should be brought along with your luggage. The enclosed environment makes this a paradise for wildlife: wombats, kangaroos, and wallabies can be seen everywhere on the grass, and echidnas often scurry past the bushes. The island is also a breeding sanctuary for Tasmanian devils, and you may sometimes encounter these nocturnal animals. Almost all of Tasmania's endemic birds can be found on the island. You may encounter dolphins during the boat trip, and during the migration season, there is a chance to see whales off the eastern cliffs. The nearshore waters are a marine reserve with clear water, suitable for snorkeling, and after low tide, you can observe marine life in the tide pools. Cultural attractions are concentrated in Darlington. This is a well-preserved convict probation station in Australia. Prison buildings such as cells and warehouses from the 1820s remain to this day. The old prison has been converted into simple dormitories, and visitors can stay overnight in the former cells. Later, the island also hosted a cement factory and farms. Relics such as farmhouses and shearing sheds are scattered across the grassy slopes. The old coffee shop and commissariat store house exhibitions introducing the island's history, and the entire area is like an open-air history museum. Hiking is the main way to experience the island. The trail to the summits of Mount Bishop and Mount Clerk climbs through grasslands and woodlands. At the summit, you will find columnar rock formations arranged like organ pipes, offering views of the open sea and sky. The cliffs of Fossil Cliffs are densely embedded with marine fossils from over 200 million years ago. The sandstone of the Painted Cliffs is stained with iron oxide in layers of patterns; it is recommended to visit during low tide to safely walk to the base of the cliffs for a closer look. If you plan to stay an extra night on the island, there are campsites at Darlington, Frenchs Farm, and Encampment Cove.Australia · Maria Island
Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain is located in the Central Highlands of Tasmania and is a highly recognizable view in the Tasmanian Wilderness: the rugged dolerite ridges form a cradle-like silhouette, which is how the mountain got its name. The main peak is over 1,500 m above sea level, and the summit is often snow-capped in winter. It is located in the northern section of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and belongs to the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Most visitors first go to Dove Lake at the end of the valley. On calm, sunny days, the lake reflects the full silhouette of the mountain, and the boatshed on the shore is a highly photogenic spot in Tasmania. More than 100 years ago, Austrian-born naturalist Gustav Weindorfer was moved the first time he reached the summit and resolved to make this mountain forest a "national park for all time." In 1912, he used local materials, specifically the ancient conifer endemic to Tasmania—the King Billy pine—to build a cabin in the valley named "Waldheim," and thereafter hosted hikers passing through year-round. Through his efforts, this forest was designated a protected area in 1922 and gradually developed into today's national park. There is a wide range of trail options: those with average fitness can stroll along the lake or walk the rainforest boardwalks. On the alpine moorland boardwalks around Ronny Creek, you can often encounter wombats grazing. For those who want to climb higher for a view, there are also routes leading to high-altitude viewpoints. During the local fall season in April and May, the native Tasmanian deciduous beech turns the hillsides golden-red, making it the most colorful time of the year. Hikers with plenty of energy and time can embark on the trail that traverses the wilderness from here, heading south to reach Lake St Clair in about 1 week, which is a classic route that many hiking enthusiasts aspire to complete. The weather in the mountains is changeable, and it is not uncommon for sun, rain, wind, and snow to take turns within a single day. Packing windproof and waterproof clothing will make your itinerary much more relaxed.Australia · Cradle Mountain
Bruny Island

Bruny Island is located off the southeast coast of Tasmania, separated from the main island of Tasmania by the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, and is near Hobart. The island is a mix of pastures and eucalyptus forests, making it a favorite island getaway for locals. The island consists of North and South Bruny, connected by a narrow sandy isthmus known as The Neck. Climb the wooden boardwalk lookout here to take in the beaches on both sides and the open sea, and in the evening, you may have the chance to see little penguins returning to their nests in groups. The island's southeast coastline is part of South Bruny National Park. Adventure Bay and Cloudy Bay on the seaward side feature long, white sandy beaches, perfect for swimming, walking, and fishing. You may even have the chance to encounter rare white wallabies around Adventure Bay. The dolerite sea cliffs within the national park tower above the sea and are among the highest coastal cliffs in Australia. Take a boat cruise along the coastline to weave through cliffs and reefs, and observe wildlife like seals up close; the 19th-century Cape Bruny Lighthouse stands on the cliff top at the southern end of the island and is a classic spot for overlooking the Southern Ocean. In addition, the island is famous for local specialties such as oysters, cheese, honey, and wine. Many tourists visit specifically to taste these, incorporating both natural scenery and culinary experiences into their itinerary.South Bruny · 98.1km from Mount Field

Traveling to Australia, this stop came to Hobart, the capital of Tasmania. Mount Field National Park is a nature reserve in Tasmania, Australia. It is the oldest national park in Tasmania. It is located 64 kilometers northwest of Hobart. Its highest point is Mount Field, which is 1,434 meters above sea level. This national park is a temperate rainforest area. Mount Field National Park can see various rare and exotic plants, among which Russell Falls and Horseshoe Falls are the most famous. On the way, there are tall rainforest areas, etc. It is a good place for hiking, picnics, skiing and bird watching. Hiking is the most common way of sightseeing. Starting from the tourist service center, it takes about 10 minutes to walk to Russell Falls and watch the beautiful scenery of the waterfall cascading down the mountain in several layers. The trees in the park are towering, some of which are more than 400 meters high. On the way, you can also observe Tasmania's unique forest area. There is a map of the entire national park at the entrance of the service center. You can choose the hiking time and route according to your own conditions. Starting from the driveway leading to Lake Dobson, there are 13 hiking areas in total. There are mountain huts in the park for accommodation. Field National Park has a variety of glacial landforms that show the geological relationship between the island and Antarctica. The plants here include huge swamp eucalyptus, eucalyptus, myrtle, sassafras, King Billy pine and the only deciduous beech in Australia. I came here in winter. When I arrived at the entrance of the park, I could feel that the temperature was several degrees lower than that in the city. When you walk into the woods, the temperature will feel colder as you walk deeper, and the ground is full of mud, and dew drips from time to time.
