No. 15 of Best Things to Do in Mauritius

Citadelle (Fort Adelaide)

5.0/5
46 reviews
Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) is located in the center of the capital, Port Louis, and is the highest point in Port Louis. From the top, you can overlook Port Louis and the old racecourse, and clearly hear the melodic, chant-like prayers of the Muslim community. Diverse architecture The architecture at Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) is fascinating. Most of the structures here were built by the British, who constructed castles in various styles. The fortress on the hill is named Fort Adelaide and has a history of over 180 years. Like the Great Wall of China, every brick and tile was laid by human hands, though the area is much smaller than the Great Wall. Today, a few cannons remain mounted high, still exuding their former power. The fortress once fell into ruin after years of abandonment but was renovated in the 1990s. You can see the different charms it offers when viewing Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) from different angles. Panoramic views At Citadelle (Fort Adelaide), you can enjoy views in two directions. One side is dominated by mountains, where you can see the racecourse. The racing season runs from May to December each year. If you visit Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) on a Saturday afternoon, you might catch a race. The other side offers sea views, primarily of the harbor. On this side, you can see cannons and telescopes, which allow you to view the distant scenery up close. There are some small shops inside Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) where photography is prohibited. Items are also quite expensive, so shopping there is not recommended.Port Louis · 13.9km from Plaine Des Papayes

Casela Nature Parks

Located on the west coast of the island of Mauritius, the park is an excellent soil that can be close to nature. There are a large number of birds, as well as rare giant tortoises and other animals in the park. Against the backdrop of African-style vegetation and scenery, it can be described as a "miniature Kenya". Walking with Lions One of the must-see experiences in Mauritius is "Walking With Lions" in the Casela Natural Park. Accompanied by professionals, you can experience the thrill of walking side by side with the king of the jungle, and even play in the streams and grasslands together to stage a live-action version of "Tarzan." Afterwards, you will be awarded a bravery certificate as a souvenir. Four-wheel drive You can also choose to rent a four-wheel drive or a more maneuverable two-wheel Segaway to travel freely through the lush tropical forests, waiting for unexpected encounters with zebras, tortoises and ostriches. A more exciting experience is the ropeway gliding project through the valley in the park. You will experience a wonderful journey like a bird soaring in the sky in the gliding distance of hundreds of meters. In addition, the park has free parking lots, restaurants, grocery stores, 4D cinemas, souvenir shops and other service facilities for tourists' leisure and entertainment needs. The park is very large and rich in content. If you want to play it all, it will take at least half a day.Mauritius · 32km from Plaine Des Papayes

It was a great experience. The underwater waterfall and the water color of the atolls near the island are beautiful. It is a beautiful view that can only be seen from a helicopter.

The weather in Maoqiu is so good, the sky is always blue, which makes people feel relaxed and happy. This is the famous red-roofed church⛪️, but it was not open at the wrong time. But the guide said that this was the only port in Maoqiu.

Port Louis is located on the northwest coast of Mauritius Island. It is not only the political, cultural and economic center of the country, but also the capital of Mauritius, as well as the country’s largest city and major port.

The Solar Undersea Walk at Deer Island in Mauritius is an underwater sport that is worth experiencing. You can wear a diving suit or a diving mask like a space suit and walk freely on the seabed to enjoy the feeling of weightlessness. In addition, the colorful corals on the seabed will definitely attract you. It is really a beautiful and wonderful world.

Fort Hill in Port Louis, Mauritius is a defensive fortress with a history of more than 400 years. Now it is the best place to appreciate Port Louis, because its terrain is very high and it overlooks the whole Port Louis. It is a famous attraction here and must not be missed.

It was originally an old forge factory, known as the "indigo factory" in the 18th century. Until 1999, the Beau Plan sugar factory here was transformed into a museum specializing in sugar production, storing the long history of sugar in Mauritius.

It's worth going. The giant tortoises, lions, and the last wild reserve, antelopes, and giraffes all look different from those in China. The foreign lady who exchanged the tickets was very responsible.
