Lake Zurich

4.8/5
520 reviews
Lake Zurich is a glacial lake on the Swiss Plateau, formed by glacial erosion. It is shaped like a crescent moon and stretches nearly 30 km southeast from downtown Zurich. The lakeshore slopes gently, with vineyards and orchards spread out in layers on the gentle slopes. On clear days, standing by the lake and looking south, the outline of the Alps is clearly visible. The lakeside promenade is flat and easy to walk. Strolling, jogging, picnicking, and sunbathing are daily pastimes for locals. In summer, the lakeside swimming areas are popular, and jumping into the water for a few laps is a common way for residents in this area to cool off. There are year-round boat services, allowing you to travel from the pier at the city's lake outlet all the way to Rapperswil at the southeastern end, offering a different perspective of the gentle slopes and small towns on both banks. Swans and wild ducks are frequent visitors here, often swimming in groups to the shore and leisurely circling around visitors' feet.Stafa · 19.5km from See-Gaster

Rigi

Rigi is renowned as the "queen of the mountains" and serves as the Alpine foothills extending into Switzerland's central plateau. On clear days, standing at the Rigi Kulm viewing platform and gazing northeast, one's view stretches across the Swiss plateau dotted with lakes, all the way to Germany's Black Forest and France's Vosges Mountains. Turning around reveals the continuous Alpine peaks and the azure Lake Lucerne at the foot. On sunny mornings, the summit often gathers travelers who come specifically to witness the Alpine sunrise, a quintessential experience of this mountain. As early as the 19th century, this was a favored holiday destination for European high society, with cultural figures like Victor Hugo having reached the summit. In 1868, Queen Victoria of England also ascended by sedan chair. Today, the ascent remains distinctive: the cogwheel railway from Vitznau, built in 1871, is one of Europe's earliest mountain railways; from Goldau, a cogwheel railway also leads directly to the summit. If starting from Weggis, you can take a cable car to enjoy aerial views of the lake and mountains before arriving at Kaltbad midway up the mountain. This mountain features gentle slopes, with over a hundred km of walking trails extending layer by layer along one side. The area boasts a rich variety of alpine flowers, including a dedicated mountain flower path that offers a particularly pleasant stroll during blooming seasons. A scenic, gradual slope trail from the summit takes approx. 2 hrs to complete, presenting lovely views with minimal physical demand. The mid-mountain resort of Kaltbad is ideal year-round: winter activities include skiing, sledding, ice skating, and cross-country skiing, with beginners able to enroll in ski school courses. Scattered across the slopes are restaurants, hotels, and holiday apartments featuring terraces and viewpoints—perfect for resting tired legs while dining with panoramic lake and mountain views.Arth · 44.3km from See-Gaster

Bahnhofstrasse

445 reviews
Bahnhofstrasse is located on the west side of the Limmat, starting from Station Square in front of Zurich Main Station in the north and ending at Buerkliplatz on the shores of Lake Zurich in the south, with a total length of approx. 1.4 km. This street is actually quite young: it was only after Zurich demolished its old city walls and filled in the moat in the 1860s that this straight street was opened on the low-lying land formerly known as "Frog Ditch." Today, it is often compared to New York's Fifth Avenue and has long been ranked among the most expensive shopping streets in Europe, serving as a city landmark for Zurich. It also has a famous nickname—the "Wall Street of Switzerland." Zurich is an internationally renowned financial city, with banks and financial institutions clustered along the street; the headquarters of UBS Group (UBS) is located next to Paradeplatz along the way. Even more intriguing is the long-standing rumor that many banks store their gold reserves in underground vaults beneath the street. Switzerland has also long been one of the world's major hubs for gold trading, so it's no wonder some call it the "Golden Avenue." Thinking about the vaults that might be buried beneath your feet while strolling along is quite a fascinating experience.Zurich · 38.9km from See-Gaster

Zurich Old Town

Zurich Old Town straddles both banks of the Limmat and serves as the city's historic core. Compared to the modern urban landscape of riverside banks and office buildings, it still retains the layout of a medieval town: winding cobblestone alleys, scattered old houses, guild halls, and street fountains. Standing on the riverbank, you can see the Old Town's three iconic churches at a glance—the twin-towered Grossmunster, St. Peter's Church, which features a clock face nearly 9m in diameter, and Fraumunster, famous for its Chagall stained-glass windows. Zurich Old Town is best explored on foot. Augustinergasse is lined with old houses featuring painted bay windows and vintage signs, making it one of the most recognizable alleys in the Old Town. For a panoramic view, head up to Lindenhof Hill; this former Roman castle site is now a vantage point for overlooking the Old Town's rooftops and the Limmat. Many old buildings have been converted into trendy restaurants, bars, and cafes, with bookstores and gift shops tucked away in the deep alleys. The Niederdorf area is a bustling shopping district by day, and after dark, its restaurants and bars light up, so it never feels repetitive even if you stroll from the afternoon well into the night.Zurich · 38.9km from See-Gaster

Lake Lucerne

Lake Lucerne is located in central Switzerland. The German name Vierwaldstättersee means "four forest lakes" and is the birthplace of the Swiss Confederation. The winding shores of the lake connect Lucerne with the surrounding peaks, framing many beautiful landscapes. The city of Lucerne is located on the edge of Lake Lucerne. Every summer, tourists from all over the world will gather here to enjoy the cool feeling in summer. Beautiful lake scenery and shore scenery The dazzling lake water of Lake Lucerne is crystal-like and dazzling, with a poetic and picturesque scene, looking out from the shore of the pier, the steeple cathedral, uniquely shaped houses, renovated like a mushroom cloud The large, bare trees form a colorful picture. There are often swans and water birds circling and playing on the lake, and the color of the lake reflects the beautiful scenery of the snow-capped mountains and the city in the distance. There are many beautiful buildings on the shore of Lake Lucerne. It was a typical European classical building, only five or six stories high, the walls were painted white, light yellow, blue, pink, and brown, and most of the roofs were bright red. The Capel Covered Bridge and the octagonal water tower walk along the lake, and not far away is a striking wooden bridge of more than 200 meters, which spans the lake diagonally. This is the old covered wooden bridge in Europe, the Capel Covered Bridge. There is an octagonal water tower in the middle of the bridge, which is also one of the most remarkable landmarks in Lucerne. There are colorful geranium flowers on the outside of the covered bridge, which looks like a beautiful ribbon from a distance. It is also called "Flower Bridge Water Tower" by many people, and it is a favorite place for couples to take pictures. The upright water tower and the recumbent wooden bridge imprint each other, forming a unique rhythm on Lake Lucerne. There is no hustle and bustle here, there is no back side by side, it is quiet and peaceful. Lake Lucerne Cruise If you want to fully appreciate Lake Lucerne, it is recommended to take a cruise on Lake Lucerne, so that you can have a panoramic view of the scenery on both sides. The boating lake is immersive, and it feels relaxed and happy. The little white sails are like white swans, and the blue lake is like a sapphire inlaid in the city. It is beautiful under the background of snow-capped mountains and white clouds. Very moving and enchanting. Lake Lucerne has a large fleet of ships from all over Switzerland, including antique steam paddlewheels and modern large cruise ships, with routes running all year round. The classic routes include "Lunch Cruise" and "Pilatus Golden Circle" cruise section. In summer, pedal boats can be rented at the confluence of the Reuss River and Lake Lucerne.Ennetburgen · 49.7km from See-Gaster

Grossmunsterstands on the banks of the Limmat, facing the Fraumünster on the opposite bank. The church is primarily in a typical Romanesque style, and its twin towers are now considered a symbol of Zurich; the composer Wagner once jokingly called them a pair of "pepper pots". Outside the south tower of the church stands a seated statue of Charlemagne holding a sword; it is a replica, with the original housed in the crypt. The crypt and the chancel area where the choir stalls are located are the oldest surviving parts of the church, dating back to the late 11th to early 12th century, with traces of the original frescoes still visible on the walls. In the early 16th century, the reformer Zwingli served as a priest here and preached his reformist ideas, making the church the birthplace of the Reformation in German-speaking Switzerland. The simple, white interior today is a legacy of this reformation. Inside the hall, you can also see stained glass windows designed by Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti, as well as bronze doors carved with images of Zwingli and Charlemagne. The cloister houses a Reformation museum, and climbing the south tower offers views over the Old Town, the Limmat, and the Lake Zurich area.Zurich · 38.4km from See-Gaster

Amazing view from the top. A 360° view of the snowcapped mountains in the distance and lakes below. The view from the train up was also amazing with the view of the lake and mountain at a really steep angle. Get the ferry from Lucerne and you've got a spectacular view all the way. There's another older train from the top that goes on route b through the valley round the back but there's not much to see as it's mostly through the forest.

Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe is one of Switzerland’s most spectacular mountain destinations, offering an unforgettable experience high in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by magnificent snow-covered peaks, vast glaciers, and breathtaking alpine scenery, the journey to the summit is an adventure itself. The panoramic views from the top are truly mesmerizing, especially on a clear day when the mountains seem to stretch endlessly into the horizon. Walking through the snowy landscape feels like entering a winter wonderland. The impressive Aletsch Glacier adds even more beauty to the experience. Jungfraujoch is a must-visit destination for travelers who love mountains, snow, photography, and extraordinary natural landscapes.

Bahnhofstrasse is Zurich's most famous shopping street, luxurious and full of vitality! It is full of top brand stores, exquisite cafes and century-old shops, which is very stylish to visit. The street is clean and elegant, with trams running through it, retro and modern. Although the prices are high, the window viewing and street photography are worth it! It is recommended to experience the exquisite life in Switzerland, remember to bring your wallet~

Lake Lucerne is really nice. When the weather is good, you can see the snow-capped mountains. Unfortunately, we stayed there for three days, and the weather was good only when we arrived in the evening of the first day, so we didn't take advantage of it. The buildings by the lake, the Ferris wheel, and the Flower Bridge Water Tower are simply too beautiful to take in. The boat ride to Weggis is even more beautiful.
