Shiwan Great Mountain National Forest Park

Shiwan Great Mountain National Forest Park

5.4
4.0/5
95 reviews

Shiwandashan National Forest Park is located in the southern part of Shangsi County. It has a quiet environment and a pristine forest landscape. It is surrounded by continuous mountains, flowing springs and green forests, and the scenery is very charming. There are two main routes when visiting the Attraction. One is leading to the "Sleeping Buddha of Nanshan" (named so because when you look at Nanshan from here, the outline of Nanshan looks like a giant Buddha sleeping on its back), and the other is leading to the "Viewing the Sea at Shishan" (named so because the peak is the top of Shishan Mountain, where you can have a panoramic view of the sea view of Beibu Gulf). Most tourists will choose the second route. However, the distance from the gate of the Attraction to the top of the mountain is quite far. It takes about 3.5 hours to reach the top, and currently it is only accessible on foot. Tourists who want to reach the top are advised to set off early. If it is already late, it is recommended to go down the mountain immediately even if you have not reached the top of the mountain. If you choose the route to "Lion Mountain Sea Viewing", even if you don't reach the top of the mountain, the many scenic spots along the way will make you feel that the trip is worthwhile. The many naturally formed bathing pools along the way are good places to play in the water, and scenic spots such as the Dragon Robe Tree, the Love Net, and the Sancha River are also very charming.

White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area

White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area

7.4
4.8/5
1k reviews

The White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area consists of four discontinuous rocky mountain areas: Bapen, Daling, Tuozhu, and Banli. The white-headed langur is named for the snow-white hair on top of its head and its diet consisting mainly of leaves. It is a primate species discovered and named by Chinese scholars, found only among the karst rocky mountains within Chongzuo. With a global population of just over one thousand, it is listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and Chongzuo is therefore known as "the hometown of the white-headed langur in China." After entering the park, a sightseeing bus ride of about ten minutes or a hike of a few hundred meters will bring you near the cliffs where the langur troops reside. The troops follow a fairly regular pattern: they leave to forage in the early morning, rest in the shade of the rock faces at noon, and return to their nests one after another before dusk, with relatively fixed routes, so patient waiting will most likely be rewarded. Infants born within half a year are golden all over and stand out strikingly in the arms of their black-furred mothers, making them a target that many nature photography enthusiasts come specifically for. The area is also home to protected animals such as the black langur and the macaque, and rare and endangered wild plants such as cycads and golden camellia. Relying on the rocky mountain forest ecosystem, the park carries out science education, ecological experience, and scientific research activities year-round. When observing the langurs, please keep quiet and do not feed or chase the troops; bringing your own binoculars or a telephoto lens makes it easier to see details on the cliffs, and avoiding noon in favor of early morning or dusk gives you a better chance of encountering active troops.

Detian Transnational Waterfall Scenic Spot

9.1
4.7/5
27.5k reviews

Detian Transnational Waterfall Scenic Spot is located on the Guichun River along the China-Vietnam border in Guangxi. Here the border river meets a cliff, and the water drops in three tiers with a fall of about 60 m, facing Vietnam's Ban Gioc Waterfall across the cliff. In the rainy season, when the water is abundant, the two waterfalls almost merge into one, with a combined width of more than 200 m, and the roar can be heard across the valley. This is also one of the filming locations for the TV drama The Journey of Flower. The highlights of the visit mostly unfold around this border river: after passing through the Detian Archway, you can take a bamboo raft from the bank toward the foot of the waterfall, look up as the curtain of water crashes down from the cliff top and mist hits your face, and experience up close the unique atmosphere of two countries just a step apart on the border river; on the river, you can often encounter Vietnamese border residents rowing small bamboo rafts to sell coffee, dried fruit, and other small goods, and the bargaining has much of the fun of a cross-border market. After coming ashore, follow the waterfall-viewing boardwalk and the multi-level viewing platforms to look back at the full panorama of the waterfall from different heights. The No. 53 boundary marker, erected in the Qing Dynasty and inscribed with "China Guangxi Boundary," is a popular photo spot. The waterfall view changes noticeably with water volume: during the summer wet season, the water is surging and visually stunning, while in the dry season it is relatively delicate; bamboo raft docks have long queues during peak season, so if you want to view the waterfall up close, it is recommended to plan an early start; there is heavy mist on the bamboo raft, so remember to protect your phone and camera from water.

The Ten Thousand Mountains are truly delightful. Waterfalls cascade down the mountainside, forming numerous pools. Right at the entrance to the scenic area is a large medicinal pool, cool and refreshing – a truly soothing place to soak in on a hot summer day. Camping is available nearby; RVs or tents are both fine, costing only 30 yuan per night.

-- READ THIS FOR FULL TRAVEL DETAILS --We did this trip without much information available online, so we might as well now share what we learned.GETTING THERE: The easiest starting point is Shangsi (上思) Town with many nice hotels to stay overnight. From there you can either get a driver to come here or take a local bus. We also asked around about renting an E-Scooter, but were recommended against that, because it is quite far. The bus leaves from 明江市场(西门) bus station (not the main bus station!), but at the other side of the street (in front of a pharmacy). It leaves at random timings (about every 20-45 minutes probably), so just go there early and wait for the next one. It's 10 Yuan per person, takes about one hour and will end right at the entrance of the park.GETTING BACK: The last bus will leave from the same spot at 4PM. Don't miss it :)FACILITIES: There are plenty of restaurants, small shops and a toilet around the ticket office (one ticket is 35 Yuan). Make sure to stack up in everything you might need: We did not see other toilets/ shops/ restaurants within the park, except for some herbal speciality souvenirs.THE SIGHTS: We were pleasengly surprised by the beautiful scenery and the trekking trails. We went on a Sunday during Chinese summer holidays and still there were very few other people. The nature is beautiful and you can walking next to a nice river stream.HIKING: We started going up a mountain peak (black path on the right side of the map). The path was super nice and lead straight through the jungle/ bamboo forest. Be aware though, that there are A LOT of steps to climb! Also, there is a sign at the path staring that the mountain round path takes 4 hours, so plan enough time.SWIMMING/ PLAYING IN THE WATER: A blessing after hiking! The water was just perfect: Nice and refreshing & super clean. Once you pass the second bridge there is even a natural swimming pool (slightly deeper water) with an improvised changing room for 1 Yuan.

Fangchenggang itself has been known as the “paradise of birds” and is an important area for migratory birds to migrate and inhabit. Fangchenggang is located in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with a unique natural environment and rich biodiversity, especially Shanxinsha Island, which is a paradise for migratory birds. So, this park is an ideal representation of avian species of designated area and perfect entertainment option for a weekend.

It's definitely worth a visit. The scenery is beautiful, and the air is rich in negative ions. I especially loved the part where we walked through the bamboo forest. The longest route takes 7-8 hours, but the water was absolutely crystal clear and stunning.

Stepping into the white-headed langur base, these spirits of the rocky mountains leap gracefully between the cliffs, their golden cubs nestled in their mothers' arms—a heartwarming scene. The guide explained that only about a thousand remain globally, found only in the karst mountains of Chongzuo. Watching them carefree as they nibble on leaves, I felt both gratified and burdened. Protecting them is protecting the unique lifeblood of this land. May more people pay attention to these "hermits of the rocky mountains," allowing them to forever thrive in their homeland.

Aside from the water being a bit low when I went, everything else was fine. The boat ride past the waterfall was worth seeing, and the path to the viewing platform after disembarking was also okay. It was a bit commercialized but not overly so, and the facilities along the way blended well with the surrounding environment.
