Ribat of Sousseis located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Hammamet in the eastern Mediterranean, in Tunisia, and is the historic core of the port city of Sousse. The ancient city was founded in antiquity and, through development across multiple historical periods, has gradually formed a unique urban layout. It features both well-preserved medieval coastal defense architecture and traditional markets full of local life, serving as an important window into understanding the history of Tunisia and Mediterranean culture. A representative view of this ancient city is the coastal defense complex from the Aghlabid dynasty. Visitors can climb the tower to look out over the white streets, the ancient Great Mosque, and the vast Mediterranean Sea. Beyond its historical relics, the ancient city still retains a vibrant daily life. The narrow, winding alleys are lined with shops, offering a dazzling array of goods such as spices, leather products, carpets, and pottery.Sousse Medina · 842m from downtown

Sousse is located on the east coast of Tunisia, a two-hour drive from the city of Tunisia. It is the third largest city in Tunisia and is known as the "Pearl of the Sahara". Founded in the 11th century BC at Seuss, the Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines and Arabs all settled and left their marks and remnants in this "rich city". It is called pearls for several reasons. One is that there are white and beautiful beaches, and there are white houses on the gentle hillside, which are warm and beautiful from the perspective of the landscape. Second, it is not only an indispensable port for trade, but also backed by the fertile central land, which is economically remarkable. Because of the sandy beach, it is a good summer tourist destination. And because it is located in the central part of the country, the climate is warm, so it is also a good place to shelter from the cold in winter. As a result, Sousse is full of tourists all year round.Sousse Medina · 345m from downtown
Great Mosque of Sousse

Great Mosque of Sousse

4.4
Located in the old city of Sousse, the Great Mosque is a religious building of great historical and cultural value. Built in the 9th century, the mosque is one of the exemplary buildings of the Aghlabid dynasty and is known for its simple and solemn design. The exterior of the mosque features solid stone walls and arched doorways, showing the unique style of early Islamic architecture. Visitors can stroll through the courtyard of the mosque and admire its quaint architectural details and tranquil atmosphere. Although the interior of the mosque is only open to Muslims, non-Muslim tourists can still visit the outside and feel its historical atmosphere. The tall tower of the mosque is part of the Sousse skyline and provides an iconic visual focal point. The Great Mosque of Sousse is not far from the city center and can be reached on foot. It has good public transportation connections to other major attractions and is an ideal starting point for understanding Tunisian history and culture.Sousse Medina · 870m from downtown

The ancient city is not big, but very beautiful. There is no commercial atmosphere yet. The ancient city is close to the sea. There is a small castle in the middle. You can spend 8 dinars to go up and have a look. After going up, you can overlook the whole ancient city. In the evening, you can see the national flag flying on the castle on the distant mountain, and the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea. You can also overlook the African fishermen who are packing up their stalls. The ancient Tunisia is fully displayed to the world.

Next to the old castle of Sousse on the Mediterranean coast, the charming Fisherman's Wharf - Lover's Harbor is a beautiful business card of Sousse. The depths of Sousse Harbor hide charming customs, various bars and restaurants are scattered among them, and various yachts, fishing boats and luxury cruise ships are docked in the harbor. A curved pier goes deep into the Mediterranean.
