Hercules Caves are located on the coastal cliffs west of Tangier, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and are sea caves that combine natural wonders with mythological significance. The caves are divided into naturally formed and man-made sections, with two openings—one facing land and one facing the sea. The interior space is not large; after walking a short distance from the entrance and turning a corner, you arrive at the sea-facing opening. The amazing thing about this opening is that its outline resembles a map of the African continent, which is why it is also known as the Hercules Caves. Looking out from inside the cave against the light, you can see the vast Atlantic Ocean through this uniquely shaped opening. The man-made part of the cave was expanded by Berbers cutting millstone materials from the rock walls, and the circular extraction marks remain clearly visible on the cave walls to this day. This is also a Neolithic human settlement site, with ancient carvings left on the rock walls.

Cape Spartel

Cape Spartel is located at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, west of the city of Tangier. It is a promontory with an elevation of approx. 315m and marks the northwestern tip of the African continent. From the top of the cliff, you can overlook the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The two bodies of water meet near the cape, which is also considered the geographical dividing point between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. A 19th-century lighthouse stands at the tip of the cape, which has long guided ships entering and leaving the strait. After renovations, the lighthouse opened to the public in 2021. Visitors can climb the spiral staircase inside the tower to the top to enjoy a panoramic view of the strait and observe passing ships. The Fresnel lens at the top is also worth a close look. The maritime museum inside the tower features several exhibition halls that introduce the history of the lighthouse, navigational signals, and related equipment, and offers information in multiple languages, including Chinese. On clear days, you can see the coastline of Spain on the other side of the strait from the top of the cliff. Watching the sunset over the Atlantic is also a signature experience here. The park also features a botanical garden, which preserves century-old olive trees and other vegetation, as well as a restaurant and a coffee bar. You can also visit the Hercules Caves located below the cape while you are in the area.

Tangier Casbah

Tangier Casbah is located at the highest point of the old town of Tangier, Morocco, and is an ancient fortress overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. The current palace building was built in the early 18th century, sitting on the site of former forts from the Portuguese and British periods. Within the blue-and-white neighborhood, narrow and winding alleys, intricately carved porches, and courtyards are interspersed, showcasing the blend of Moroccan and European architectural styles. The former Sultan's palace within the Casbah is now the Museum of Mediterranean Cultures. The building is arranged around a courtyard and retains its carved wooden ceilings, marble fountains, and Arabesque decorations. The museum displays artifacts from the Phoenician, Roman, and subsequent historical periods, as well as traditional crafts such as ceramics and textiles, showcasing the historical connection between Tangier and the Mediterranean region. Standing on the high walls, you can overlook the port and the strait, and when the weather is clear, you can even see the coastline of Spain on the opposite shore. Signpost of Atlantic & Mediterranean is located at Cap Spartel in the western suburbs of Tangier, Morocco. Situated at the northwestern tip of the African continent near the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, it is often considered the dividing point between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The signpost indicates the direction of the two bodies of water in Arabic and French and is one of the landmarks where almost every visitor to Tangier stops for a photo. Standing next to the signpost, you can see the rougher Atlantic Ocean on one side and the relatively calmer Mediterranean Sea on the other. On clear days, you can observe the differences in color and wave patterns between the two bodies of water; when visibility is high, you can even look across the strait to the coastline of Spain. Cape Spartel is a cape in the north of Tangier. Spain is on the other side of the Strait of Gibraltar. It has become a check-in spot because it is the confluence of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The water here is blue and rough, and some people are fishing on the reefs.

The city's narrow alleys are beautiful and walking around the old town of Tangier is a good chance to breathe the fresh air coming from the Mediterranean Sea, it's also a good chance to to try some delicious local food or go shopping.

Came here on March 3, 2019. Tangier Castle is a historic site, but Morocco is not so "concerned" about the protection of historic sites. This can be said to be a still "alive" ancient city, which is still full of people, and local residents can freely demolish and build on the castle according to their needs. In this way, the destruction of the historic sites is inevitable, but it also makes the historic sites less distant. Ancient history and modern life are organically combined to form the appearance of the castle in front of us. This style is different from our "museum" protection plan, but it is also a reasonable idea. Isn't this an organic historical inheritance and development?

If you go to the old town of Tangier, go to the American Legation Museum, which is the first overseas property purchased by the United States. The items are kept in their original state. The price tags on the restroom doors are interesting, you might want to take a look. Attached are photos.
