Ryukyu Village is a tourist theme park where you can fully enjoy Okinawa, easily accessible by car in about an hour from the airport. Surrounded by traditional Okinawan houses and the sound of the sanshin (Okinawan stringed instrument), you can enjoy a moment of peace and relaxation that will make you forget the stresses of everyday life. Furthermore, the availability of Ryukyuan traditional clothing experiences and various other programs allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in Okinawan culture and atmosphere, which is another attractive feature. At Ryukyu Village, you can enjoy a unique Eisa performance that incorporates traditional Eisa music and choreography. Eisa is a type of "dancing Buddhist chanting" performed on the night of the Obon festival to send the spirits of ancestors back to the afterlife, and it is one of Okinawa's representative traditional performing arts. The youth associations of each region parade through the village at night, performing drums and hand dances to the sound of the sanshin (Okinawan stringed instrument), welcoming the spirits of their ancestors and praying for a bountiful harvest and the safety of their families.Onna · 5.4km from Uruma

Although not big in size, it offers visitors a number of opportunities to interact with animals, such as feeding giraffes, and petting chicks and guinea pigs. In addition, the museum provides scientific games and art workshops that bring to life originally boring scientific principles.Okinawa City · 11.4km from Uruma

Whenever they hear "Wanza Mao", everyone will be puzzled by this strange name. In fact, "Wanza" means "ten thousand people sit down", and "Mao" is an Okinawan dialect, meaning grassland and open space. Therefore, "Wanzumao" refers to a large lawn that can accommodate ten thousand people to sit down. This beautiful large lawn is located on a cliff by the sea, and the surrounding flora is designated as a natural monument by Okinawa Prefecture. From there, you can enjoy the sea and the sky, as well as overlooking the coral reefs under the cliffs and the magnificent view of the waves crashing on the shore. Wanzuomao is actually very small. It may take 10 minutes to walk around the semi-circle. The iconic scenic spot is that the cliff is shaped like an elephant's trunk, which is somewhat similar to the Elephant Trunk Hill in Guilin. From here, you can see pictures of coral reefs and stormy waves hitting the shore, and there are patches of green plant communities on the land. And here is also the location of film and television dramas such as the Hong Kong movie "Love in Okinawa" and the Korean drama "It's Okay, It's Love".Onna · 8.9km from Uruma

American Village

American Village is a coastal shopping and entertainment district themed after the American West Coast. It was developed on reclaimed land from a former US military airfield. In the early years, it gradually attracted American-style shops and restaurants to meet the needs of US military personnel and their families. Today, with its streets full of graffiti murals, neon signs, and vibrant retro architecture, it has become a destination for shopping and ocean views in central Okinawa. The bustling heart of the district is Depot Island, where colorful buildings, palm trees, and coastal boardwalks connect, providing photo opportunities everywhere. Nearby, American Depot is famous for its vintage clothing, military surplus, and imported goods, making it perfect for browsing. Dining options also have a strong American flair, with taco rice, burgers, steaks, and Blue Seal ice cream—which originated at local US military bases—all available. Entertainment facilities like cinemas and game centers are also interspersed throughout. Around dusk is an especially charming time for this district. Chatan Park, located on one side, features Chatan Park Sunset Beach, which faces the west coast and is a popular spot for watching the sunset; in summer, you can even swim there. After nightfall, the neon lights and decorations gradually light up, presenting two different atmospheres between day and night. It is worth noting that the large Ferris wheel that once appeared in many promotional photos has been dismantled, so there is no need to look for it.Chatan · 14.4km from Uruma

Okinawa memorial park is located by the sea in the northern part of Okinawa's main island. Built in August 1976 on the former site of the 1975 Okinawa international ocean exposition, the park carries the theme of "sun, flowers and ocean." The grounds are broadly divided into three zones: ocean, history & culture, and flowers & greenery, featuring an aquarium, dolphin shows, botanical gardens and beaches - perfect for a half-day visit. The ocean zone is particularly popular: Okinawa Churaumi aquarium, the park's flagship attraction, houses whale sharks and manta rays in its massive tank; the adjacent dolphin theater continues shows dating back to the exposition era; the manatee house hosts manatees gifted by the Mexican government, while the turtle house observes turtle growth and dolphin lagoon offers close-up dolphin viewing; emerald beach is an artificial coral sand beach within the lagoon, swimmable in summer. The history & culture zone's ocean culture museum displays hundreds of exhibits including large canoes, showcasing Okinawa's maritime connections with the South Pacific and Southeast Asia, along with an observatory; nearby Okinawa traditional village recreates a 17th-19th century Ryukyu kingdom settlement with red-tiled houses, elevated granaries and windbreak trees, accompanied by Soro botanical garden featuring over twenty local plants mentioned in ancient ballads. The flowers & greenery zone's tropical dream center maintains year-round orchid and tropical plant displays in greenhouses, while the tropical/subtropical urban greening garden and sunset plaza make worthy stops. The expansive park requires walking between zones, with electric carts available. While most visitors head straight for the aquarium, Okinawa traditional village offers a more relaxed pace with trilingual audio guides in historic houses and occasional sanshin performances, providing deeper immersion into Ryukyu's maritime heritage.Motobu · 30.1km from Uruma

Cape Zanpa is located at the northwest end of Yomitan Village. The cliffs of the coral reefs uplifting more than 30 meters stretch for about two kilometers, and it is a famous tourist attraction in Okinawa. White lighthouse, blue sea and blue sky, beautiful scenery. There are promenades built around Cape Zanpa for tourists to take a walk, and there are also famous spots such as diving and seaside fishing nearby. There is a restaurant on the plaza near the lawn in the green space in front of Cape Zanpa, and a model of a tribute ship that traded with China in history is also displayed. At the entrance of the square is a seven-meter-high ocean jazz "Zanbo Lion", which is majestic.Yomitan · 11.7km from Uruma

The attraction isn't large, and the buildings are quite primitive, originally the settlement of several families from the Ryukyu Village. However, the song and dance performance is definitely worth seeing. The raw, masculine vitality of the island inhabitants, the love and enthusiasm in their eyes, is rarely seen. Many performances in China feel particularly empty.

A special attraction in Okinawa. It is actually very small and I feel that I can walk around it in less than half an hour. I can see wild pineapples on the roadside. It feels quite fun. There is not much else to comment on. The sea is actually very blue~

Its eye-catching symbol is the large Ferris wheel with a diameter of about 50 meters. The American Village has entertainment facilities mainly based on 3D images, an 8-screen movie theater, a shopping mall, a bowling alley, an American restaurant, a recording studio, an entertainment center, an imported grocery store, etc., and there are also complex facilities for sports.

When talking about the most beautiful sea areas in Japan, Okinawa has to be mentioned. The Blue Caves here are also one of the best attractions. Here you can not only enjoy this 35-meter wide and 6-meter deep cave by snorkeling or diving. In this blue dream world, you can see various creatures such as sea bream, goldfish and hedgehog shrimp living here. Every year during the peak season, tourists from all over the world come to experience it.

We visited Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium as a family with our grown-up sons and had a fantastic time! The enormous aquarium with whale sharks and manta rays was absolutely breathtaking. We also enjoyed watching the colourful tropical fish and the dolphin show. Even though our boys are all grown up, we all had so much fun together. It was a wonderful family experience and definitely one of the highlights of our Okinawa trip!

Cape Zanpa Lighthouse is the only lighthouse in Okinawa that you can climb. Its pure white exterior stands out brilliantly against the backdrop of the azure sea and sky. On the way to the lighthouse, you'll pass "Kinjo Parker," a food truck converted from an abandoned bus, which sells light meals, drinks, and ice cream—a lifesaver in this sweltering weather. Unfortunately, we arrived during maintenance and couldn't climb to the top, but the azure sky and crystal-clear water were enough to keep us taking pictures for most of the day.
