Wuyuan Huangling Scenic Area

Wuyuan Huangling Scenic Area sits among the Shi'er Mountains of Wuyuan, with the ancient village of Huangling at its core—a Huizhou ancient village nearly six hundred years old. The village is built along steep mountain slopes, where "there is no flat ground three chi wide"; residences are arranged in a fan-shaped, terraced layout around the water outlet, with white walls and dark tiles layered one upon another on the cliffside, earning it the name "Tiyun Renjia" (Households in the Terraced Clouds). Surrounded by ancient trees and terraced fields, it is itself a three-dimensional painting of a mountain village. Huangling is the birthplace of the "shaiqiu" (autumn sun-drying) culture. Constrained by the terrain, villagers have since ancient times set up drying racks on rooftops to dry crops; every fall, red chili peppers, yellow chrysanthemums, pumpkins, and more fill the rooftop drying trays, with colors shifting as the seasons change. In spring, rapeseed flowers bloom in layers across ten thousand mu of terraced fields, dotted with pink peach blossoms and snow-white pear blossoms; the lower-elevation first-phase flower sea and the higher-elevation second-phase Gaoling flower sea bloom in succession, with the flowering period lasting into April. Riding the cable car up the mountain, visitors can overlook the entire golden flower field, and the view is especially open when passing the Leixin Bridge glass walkway, with layered terraced fields and distant mountains below. Tianjie in the village is the main sightseeing axis paved with bluestone slabs, linking classic Huizhou-style ancient buildings; shops line the street with workshops behind storefronts, and along the way visitors can taste authentic Wuyuan snacks such as steamed cakes, Qingming guo, and huizhi guo, and also take part in making folk snacks and handicrafts. Visiting in fall, besides the spectacular shaiqiu scene, the village's red maples are also a highlight, with maple forests fully tinted and echoing the harvest colors drying on the rooftops. Throughout the year, Huangling has something to offer in every season, and its core charm always lies in the unique Huizhou everyday vitality of this mountain village.Wuyuan · 26.3km from downtown

Wuyuan Scenic Area is located at the junction of Anhui, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang provinces and has long been known as "China's most beautiful countryside." It offers different scenery in every season: in spring, view the rapeseed flower fields and taste spring tea; in autumn, admire the red leaves, see the shaiqiu (autumn sun-drying) displays, and photograph the morning mist. During the off-peak season when there are fewer visitors, you can also come and stay for a few days, stroll through the ancient villages, and admire the Huizhou-style residential architecture. Travel route The beautiful scenery of Wuyuan is distributed among various towns and villages. Typically, three days are enough to visit major attractions such as Wangkou, Shangxia Xiaoqi, Jiangling attraction, Sixi Yancun, and Rainbow Bridge, which is the conventional route combining the east line and the north line. If you are making a special trip to see the rapeseed flowers, you can take the east line'sMoon Bay-Likeng attraction-Shangxia Xiaoqi-Jiangling attraction; if you are coming only for the red leaves and morning mist of late fall, then Shicheng Chengcun is the right place to go. Rapeseed flowers viewing and spring tea tasting — flower viewing in Wuyuan atJiangling attraction Wuyuan is renowned as a prime destination for viewing rapeseed flowers, and mid-to-late March is the season when the flowers are in full bloom. Standing on the high terraced fields of Jiangling Village, orMoon Bay riverside, taking in the endless golden yellow at a glance. Villages such as Qingyuan, Shangxiaoqi and Xiaxiaoqi, Wangcha Village, and Guankeng Village are also great places to admire the rapeseed flower fields. Admire fall foliage and watch the morning mist Late fall in Wuyuan is also breathtakingly beautiful, and mid-to-late November is the ideal time to admire red and yellow leaves and watch the morning mist. Villages deep in the mountains are shrouded in thin mist, with large swaths of red maples and ginkgo trees set against the white walls and dark tiles of the countryside, faintly visible through the fog—utterly enchanting. Shicheng, Wuyuan Huangling Scenic Area, Xiaoyong Village, Sixi Yancun, and other villages are all great places to enjoy autumn scenery. In the ancient village of Wuyuan Huangling Scenic Area, visitors can also see the folk view of "shaiqiu" (autumn sun-drying), with red chili peppers, rice, and other crops drying on every household's rooftop; climbing high and gazing into the distance reveals a magnificent expanse of red and yellow. Admire Hui-style dwellings Wuyuan is one of the birthplaces of Huizhou culture. When visiting, be sure to stroll through its villages and experience the rustic, tranquil atmosphere of daily life. In the alleys of every village, you will see memorial archways, stone inscriptions, stone bridges, ancient opera stages, horse-head walls, bonsai, and other buildings with distinctive Huizhou style, as well as many historic sites such as ancestral halls and residences of ancient celebrities. Likeng Village, Shangxiaoqi and Xiaxiaoqi, and Wangkou all have many historic sites, while Sixi Yancun, where the 1987 version of "Liaozhai" was filmed, and Wuyuan's covered bridge "Rainbow Bridge" are also attractions not to be missed.Wuyuan · 10.8km from downtown

Xian Gao City is located in the county seat area of Wuyuan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. It is named after Xian Gao Town, the ancient county seat of Wuyuan. Xian Gao Town boasts a unique topography, nestled against mountains and surrounded by water, lush and verdant, situated at a high vantage point. It is a treasure trove of "a hall of mountains and water" in traditional Huizhou culture, and a new immersive cultural and commercial tourism landmark in Wuyuan, integrating Huizhou culture, landscape aesthetics, and modern creative experiences. The Xian Gao City project is divided into two parts: Phase I, the open-air cultural and tourism street of Xihutang, and Phase II, the enclosed core scenic area. The Xihutang cultural and tourism street opened to the public in May 2025; Phase II is expected to enter the trial operation stage in May 2026. The Xihutang cultural and tourism street was originally the "Wuyuan West Lake" built by Zhao Zonghang during the Southern Song Dynasty, once famous for its "peach and plum blossoms reflecting lotus flowers." The renovated Xihutang Street area is now fully open to the public, featuring historical sites such as "Three Waters," "Seven Alleys," and "Eight Scenic Spots." It offers unique experiences including a "Living Huizhou Museum" (showcasing the cultural heritage and charm of Huizhou); a nighttime West Lake Fish Lantern Festival (where thousands of fish lanterns illuminate a romantic and poetic night); a North Gate Street Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo (experiencing the exquisite craftsmanship of intangible cultural heritage); and a "Specialty Food Hub" (gathering Wuyuan and Huizhou specialty foods). These diverse experiences allow visitors to immerse themselves in the captivating charm of Xiangao City. The second phase of Xiangao City, a meticulously crafted core area, will create an immersive, enclosed landscape park integrating history, nature, art, and technology (expected to open in the first half of 2026). This includes a children's fantasy park, the Tianji Pavilion (a site for Qimen Dunjia divination), a VR light and shadow theater, a flowing forest night tour, and the "Xiange Banquet" food city. This will transport visitors to a fantastical and dreamlike paradise, allowing ancient cultural relics to transcend time and shine with contemporary brilliance, becoming a real-life "celestial palace."Wuyuan · 351m from downtown

Dazhangshan Wolong Valley is located in northern Wuyuan, a pristine forest canyon attraction with fresh air. The valley is a year-round destination: spring brings blooming wildflowers, summer lush greenery, autumn fiery red maples, and winter icy landscapes. Its main highlights are the cascading waterfalls and crystal-clear streams, making it an ideal summer retreat. At the entrance of the attraction stands a massive boulder inscribed with Jin Yong's calligraphy: "Dazhangshan Wolong Valley." The hiking route is straightforward—just one uphill path following the stream through the valley. With gentle slopes, it's an easy and pleasant walk. Along the way, you'll pass scenic spots like Wolong Pond, the suspension bridge, Qidie Spring, Water Curtain Falls, and Konghou Bridge. Take your time to pause, play in the streams, admire the cascading waterfalls, and capture the breathtaking scenery with your camera. Near the mountaintop stands the Konghou Suspension Bridge, spanning over 50 meters in length and 30 meters in height. Crossing this bridge offers an exhilarating experience for nervous visitors. After traversing the bridge and a wooden boardwalk, you'll reach the summit where the spectacular Bailong Waterfall plunges over 100 meters, creating a breathtaking sight. The entire ascent takes about 1 hour or more, or around 2 hours if you take it slow. You can descend via the same route, with the round-trip hike totaling approximately 3–4 hours. If you prefer not to walk, the attraction offers a round-trip cable car, with a one-way ride taking about 15 min. However, we recommend hiking up to fully experience the essence of this place, then taking the cable car down to enjoy a bird's-eye view of the scenic landscape.Wuyuan · 32km from downtown

Before coming, I did a lot of research, and everyone said that you'd regret not going, and you'd regret going anyway. After much deliberation, I still came. My mother really liked it; she thought it was beautiful even though it's a man-made scenic area and took many photos. The area was very lively; even in the afternoon, there were still many people, and there were queues at the photo spots. I joined in the fun so I could take some pictures for my mom. Overall, the experience was just average because there were too many unfavorable factors: it was a cloudy day with no sun, the lighting was dim at night, and the ground was slippery in the afternoon… and it's essentially still a commercialized ancient town (village) with local characteristics. Luckily, my mother liked it, so it wasn't a wasted trip. However, the view of the terraced fields from the viewing platform was excellent; I felt like I'd seen such a view in my dreams. Finally, I want to praise the friendly and enthusiastic service from the shopkeepers within the scenic area. Overall, it was an expensive but worthwhile trip.

The night view of Wunvzhou is truly stunning, with Hui-style architecture illuminated by lights, creating a truly immersive atmosphere. A must-see is the intangible cultural heritage of iron flower making, where a shower of golden sparks creates a breathtaking spectacle. There are also performances of fire kettles and light shows. During the day, you can stroll through the Wenchang Bookstore, take a ride on a traditional rowing boat, and enjoy photo opportunities on the ancient streets. It's recommended to stay inside the scenic area for unlimited entry and exit, avoiding the crowds after performances. Food prices within the scenic area are relatively high, and it gets very crowded during holidays; for a more comfortable experience, it's best to travel during off-peak times.

White walls and black tiles nestled by the stream, small bridges spanning the water reflecting the walls' rich colors. Ancient houses, weathered and charming, retain their Hui-style elegance. A shallow stream carries the beauty of autumn. (Likeng, a classic "small bridge, flowing water, and houses" village in Wuyuan, features two streams winding through it, with dozens of ancient stone bridges connecting the two banks. Ming and Qing dynasty Hui-style houses line the streams, their white walls and black tiles, along with the bluestone alleys, are reflected in the water with exceptional elegance. A return visit today offers new delights.)

We were so lucky to have Zhang Chengwen as our guide. He not only explained historical and geographical anecdotes to us, but also led us to classic photo spots and took beautiful pictures for us. Thank you so much! 🙏

It's a commercial ancient town, but the Hui-style architecture here is quite well preserved, making it much more cost-effective than other attractions. I originally wanted to see the fish lanterns and iron flower performance, but the activities were canceled due to rain, which was a pity. However, the night view was quite beautiful.

Like other attractions, it doesn't feel like a 5A-level scenic spot. The visitor center is quite far away, even though you can drive right up to the entrance. The scenic area is large but lacks any distinctive features. It's very commercialized, but the food is poor; there are very few restaurants, and it's hard to find a place to rest or have coffee.

Before heading to Huangshan, I stopped in Wuyuan, and Wolong Valley was a good warm-up. The natural environment was quite nice. This was my second time here. Last time, during the rainy season, the water volume was plentiful, but I didn't have time to see the whole thing. This time, I had more time, but the scenery was much less impressive due to the dry season. The Big Dragon Waterfall was practically dry, even smaller than the Small Dragon Waterfall. The streams were very clear, and there were many people playing in the water. It's a good place to enjoy water activities, cleanse your lungs, and reconnect with nature. Don't expect too much from the waterfalls during the dry season.

I originally wanted to go to Huangling to see the rapeseed flowers, but it was raining and I was in a hurry, so I changed my plans and went to Jiangling instead. The car could drive right in, and I just took a quick photo and headed back. The scenery was still very beautiful.
