Qianling Mausoleum

4.1k reviews
The Qinling Mausoleum was constructed in the year 684 and is one of the rare places in China - or even the world - where emperors from two dynasties and an imperial husband and wife are interred. Emperor Gaozong of Tang (Li Zhi) and his wife Wu Zetian, China's only empress, are interred here. This mausoleum is also one of the few imperial tombs in China that has not been looted. The Qinling Mausoleum Scenic Area is quite large. In addition to the Qinling Mausoleum itself, it also contains many “companion tombs” (peizangmu) in which members of the imperial court and major ministers are buried. The tombs of Prince Zhanghuai, Crown Prince Yide, and Princess Yongtai are currently being excavated.Qian County · 4.9km from downtown

It is an archaeological site museum built based on the Yangling of Han Dynasty, a national key cultural relic protection unit. It was officially completed and opened in 1999. It is now a national first-class museum, a national archaeological site park, and a national AAAA-level tourist Attraction. 1. Main attractions As a large-scale site protection and display museum, Hanyang Mausoleum was rated as one of the top ten archaeological discoveries of the year and listed in the top 100 archaeological discoveries in China in the 20th century for its rich archaeological results, complete site preservation and complete protection and display system. It is China's first underground site museum that allows immersive experience. It is also one of the largest site museums in China with an area of more than 3,000 acres. It is famous both at home and abroad for its advanced and unique cultural relics protection concepts and display methods. Four basic exhibition halls have been built, including the Hanyang Mausoleum Archaeological Exhibition Hall, the Imperial Mausoleum Outer Storage Pit Site Protection and Exhibition Hall, the Nanquemen Site Protection and Exhibition Hall, and the Deyang Temple Site Protection and Exhibition Area, as well as natural landscapes such as the blooming rose garden, the colorful cherry blossom forest, and the swaying hundred-acre ginkgo forest. Here, you can not only feel the majestic and profound Han culture, appreciate the beautiful garden scenery, but also get a rare experience of the authenticity of the archaeological site, which can trigger Unlimited historical imagination. The Imperial Mausoleum's Outer Storage Pit Site Protection Exhibition Hall The outer storage pits are an important part of the imperial mausoleum, with 81 pits surrounding the imperial mausoleum. The Imperial Mausoleum Outer Storage Pit Protection Exhibition Hall is the world's first fully underground site museum using advanced cultural relic protection technology, built on 10 outer storage pits in the northeast of the imperial mausoleum. The hollow coated electrically heated glass curtain wall and passages in the museum separate the cultural relics and tourists in two completely different temperature and humidity environments. Under the premise of scientifically protecting the cultural relics, tourists can appreciate the archaeological excavation site and related relics from close range and from multiple angles in a mysterious environment. It is a model of the perfect combination of modern technology and heritage protection. In addition, the holographic imaging program uses internationally advanced film and television imaging technology to interpret the real historical events of the year, traveling through time and space, immersing tourists' thoughts in the colorful court life of the former Western Han emperors. Hanyangling Archaeological Exhibition Hall The Hanyang Mausoleum Archaeological Exhibition Hall is a comprehensive exhibition hall with a unique architectural style and novel display methods. The unique exterior structure of the ruins is consistent with the overall ancient historical environment of the mausoleum, creating a sense of historical vicissitudes. The exhibition halls on the upper and lower floors are based on the historical background, archaeological discoveries and protection and inheritance of Han Yang Mausoleum. Nearly a thousand fine cultural relics are exhibited. Through beautiful pottery figurines, simple and elegant utensils, and seals that follow etiquette and regularity, etc., the exhibition strives to present the history of the Han Dynasty, the archaeology of Han Yang Mausoleum, and the results of protection, display and utilization from multiple angles. The design that combines the sense of history with modern elements makes the elements of Han culture perfectly fit with the connotation of the site. It wipes off the dust of history and walks into the era that was later revered as the "Reign of Wen and Jing" with the audience, appreciates the scene of governance that has been passed down for thousands of years, touches the memory of Han culture that is deeply rooted in the blood of the nation, and appreciates the stories behind the cultural relics. Nanquemen Site Protection Exhibition Hall Nanque Gate is the southern gate of the four gates of the imperial mausoleum, also known as Zhuque Gate. It consists of two groups of symmetrically connected "three-que" buildings. It is the earliest, highest-level and largest imperial mausoleum que building site discovered so far. The Nanque Gate Site Protection and Exhibition Hall looks like a Han-style que gate building, which not only protects the existing site completely, but also shows tourists the majestic and tall style of the "three-que" building that only the emperors of the Han Dynasty could enjoy. Deyang Temple Ruins Protection and Exhibition Area The Deyang Temple Ruins are extremely important architectural ruins in the Yangling Mausoleum, covering an area of 60,000 square meters. The plane is a "U"-shaped double corridor structure, with a regular shape and a large scale, comparable to the ritual architecture in the southern suburbs of Chang'an City in the Han Dynasty. It is the best-preserved imperial mausoleum temple architectural ruins discovered so far. In terms of protection and display techniques, the original state of the ruins is combined with partial restoration and elevation, and large-scale greening is adopted, so that this precious ruins can be effectively protected and tourists can appreciate the grand momentum of the Western Han Dynasty ancestral temple architecture. Park scenery In order to further promote China's excellent traditional culture, promote the integration of culture and tourism, realize the consensus that culture is the soul of tourism and tourism is the carrier of culture, and strengthen the international competitiveness of China's cultural and tourism industries. Our institute uses green landscape as the site identification system and creates characteristic landscapes such as "Rose Garden", "Cherry Blossom Garden" and "Ginkgo Forest". Among them, the "Ginkgo Forest" has held nine consecutive unique "Hanyang Mausoleum Golden Autumn Ancient" Ginkgo Festival series activities since 2014, in November every year when the ginkgo leaves enter the viewing period. Since then, when talking about the "Ginkgo Forest", it is necessary to go to Hanyang Mausoleum. Self-driving route 1. Xi'an City Wall is a landmark of this ancient city. The city walls that we see now were built in the early years of the Ming dynasty and they are now more than 600 years old. The walls were built on the foundations of the imperial city of the Tang Dynasty and they are formed together with a series of defensive installments such as moats and turrets. At present, Xi'an City Wall can be accessed by many city gates. Visitors can choose the nearest one to them. The South Gate is the visitor entrance of Xi'an City and is also the city gate with more tourists. Cycling on the ancient walls is a good experience. Riding on the wall overlooking the ancient capital of the thirteenth dynasty, you will have a feeling of travelling through time.Xi'an · 22.7km from Xianyang

Xi'an Museum is a modern comprehensive museum built upon the cultural relic protection site—the ruins of the Tang Dynasty Jianfu Temple and its iconic structure, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. It integrates cultural relic collection and protection, academic research, exhibition and display, social education, and garden leisure. Its core area is the location of the original Tang Dynasty royal temple, Jianfu Temple, while the precious and striking historical relic existing within the temple—the Small Wild Goose Pagoda—has become the museum's unique landmark and soul. Therefore, the Jianfu Temple ruins and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda are not only the foundation and core carrier for the establishment of Xi'an Museum, but also important outdoor historical exhibition areas and focal points for visitors. The main building of the museum is located on the north side of the ancient temple ruins. The three elements (ancient temple ruins, ancient pagoda, and modern museum building) are organically integrated, jointly forming a unique cultural space that combines "museum, pagoda, temple, and garden," vividly showcasing the historical context of Xi'an from ancient times to the present. Xi'an Museum officially opened to the public on May 18, 2007. Its establishment aims to comprehensively showcase the glorious history and splendid culture of Xi'an (ancient Chang'an) as the capital of thirteen dynasties, filling the gap of a comprehensive museum of Xi'an's urban history. Collection highlights: The museum houses over 100,000 precious cultural relics from various historical periods of Xi'an. The collection spans from prehistoric times to the Ming and Qing dynasties, with particular emphasis on artifacts from the prosperous dynasties of Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang, including bronze ware, jade articles, gold and silverware, ceramics, murals, stone steles, epitaphs, and Buddhist statues, systematically reflecting the political, economic, cultural, social life, and foreign exchanges of the ancient capital Chang'an. Main exhibition: The permanent exhibition "Ancient capital Xi'an" takes the urban development history of Xi'an as the main thread, showcasing the evolution and achievements of Xi'an as a capital (Zhou Fenghao, Qin Xianyang, Han Chang'an, Sui-Tang Chang'an) and a prefectural city (Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties) through a large number of precious cultural relics, models, charts, and multimedia means. Unique environment: The museum's greatest feature lies in its surroundings. Travelers can not only visit modern exhibition halls but also stroll through the expansive heritage park encompassing the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, the ancient architectural complex of Jianfu Temple (including structures like the Ming dynasty bell tower housing a Jin dynasty ancient bell), an ancient stone sculpture art exhibition area, and garden views—experiencing the charm of the millennia-old capital at its historical site. The view of "morning bells at the Wild Goose Pagoda" is particularly renowned. Functional positioning: The museum is not only an important center for cultural relic collection, research, and display, but also an urban cultural park where citizens can relax, entertain, and immerse themselves in history and culture, undertaking significant social education and cultural exchange functions.Xi'an · 23.7km from Xianyang

The gilded pinnacle at the roof's apex is particularly striking under sunlight. Each side of the base has a central arched doorway approx. 6 m high, which were interconnected and once served as passageways for the intersection of four major streets—east, south, west, and north—allowing pedestrian and vehicular traffic. These doorways are now sealed, with a traffic roundabout built around them and an underground pedestrian passage. The entrance to the Xi'an Bell Tower is located within this underground passage, accessible via a spiral staircase. Inside the tower, there is a replica of the "Jingyun Bell," whose original was cast in the second year of Emperor Ruizong's Jingyun era (711 AD) during the Tang Dynasty and is now housed in the Xi'an Beilin Museum. Standing on the Xi'an Bell Tower, you can see the four main streets extending east, south, west, and north from the Xi'an Bell Tower. Wu Zetian's tomb, which also contains the tombs of several other princes and princesses, is worth a visit. There's a shuttle bus service available; you can get off at each stop and then take the bus to the next. The path to the top of Qianling Mausoleum can be a bit slippery on rainy days.

While not as grand and imposing as Maoling and Qianling, it offers the unique advantage of close-up views of the burial pits and funerary objects, making it worth a visit. However, the park's management was subpar; the restrooms had a pungent odor, and the outer burial pit exhibition hall was filled with a strange, putrid smell. Even after leaving and returning to the city, exposed to wind and rain, and having dinner, the stench lingered on everyone at the hotel, a feeling that was unbearable and disappointing.

This was a special treat for my zodiac year. Although I've lived in Xi'an for years, I've never been before. It's definitely not comparable to Disneyland, but the rides were enough for the kids. It was quite crowded during the Spring Festival, with long queues for the bumper cars and log flume. We played from noon until dark. The only downside was the limited dining options and the poor value for money. We also happened to catch a fireworks show during the Spring Festival.

Go through the South Gate entrance as it's very convenient and quite spectacular. The wall is very wide and even if there are a lot of people, it still feels easy to walk around and enjoy. There are great views of the city from above. I recommend going in the late afternoon so you can catch some daylight but also be on the wall when the lights get turned on. Renting a bike is super easy and you can choose from single or tandem ones. We did the whole wall (almost 14 km) on a tandem bike and it was such a beautiful experience. It's a bit windy up there so make sure to bring a hat and a jacket, especially if you plan to ride a bike which I truly recommend.

This was my second visit to the Zheng Guo Canal, and this time I brought my family. There was no traffic jam even during the National Day holiday. We first went to the visitor center and then took the shuttle bus to various attractions. The core scenic area is Zheng Guo Lake. The green mountains and clear water, along with the gentle breeze, made it very pleasant. The red rocks in the Black Ditch were also nice. The cave was decorated with colorful lights. The water was much clearer than when I visited before, and there were more photo spots. It was definitely worth seeing. The average cost per person was 160 yuan, excluding meals.

Zhaoling, this majestic mausoleum, stands quietly atop the main peak of Jiuyi Mountain in Liquan County, Shaanxi Province. It is the joint burial site of Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, and Empress Wende, Zhangsun. As the largest of the 18 Tang Tombs in Guanzhong, its grand scale, vast area, numerous accompanying tombs, and rich cultural relics are all breathtaking. 🕰️ The construction of Zhaoling took 13 years, from the initial burial of Empress Wende in the 10th year of the Zhenguan reign to the interment of Emperor Taizong, Li Shimin, in the 23rd year of the Zhenguan reign. It embodied the wisdom and dedication of countless craftsmen. Meticulously designed and overseen by Yan Lide, Zhaoling is more than just a mausoleum; it is a silent history book, telling the glorious chapter of the Tang Dynasty's prosperity. 🌳 The location of Jiuyi Mountain is truly blessed. Surrounded by mountains, the winding Jing River flows through it, and before it lies the vast Guanzhong Plain, with the Wei River flowing through it like a jade belt. This geographical location is not only excellent for feng shui but also symbolizes peace and prosperity, perfectly complementing the achievements of Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, in both civil and military affairs. 🐎 The "Six Horses of Zhaoling" are undoubtedly the crowning jewels of the mausoleum. These six steeds, loyal companions of Li Shimin throughout his campaigns, are immortalized in high-relief stone carvings at the mausoleum's edge. Each steed possesses a unique posture and expression, as if narrating the days of war and battle. Sadly, "Salu Zi" and "Quanmao Gu" were stolen and shipped to the United States, leaving a lasting legacy for the Chinese people. Today, the remaining four are treasured in the Xi'an Forest of Steles Museum, attracting countless visitors to see their splendor. 🏺 In addition to the "Six Horses of Zhaoling," numerous precious cultural relics have been unearthed from the mausoleum, including statues of chieftains from fourteen states, exquisite pottery figurines, and vibrant Tang Dynasty sancai (three-colored glazed pottery). These artifacts are not only artistic treasures but also vivid reflections of the prosperity and prosperity of the "Zhenguan Reign" during the heyday of the Tang Dynasty. From various perspectives, they showcase the remarkable achievements of the time, encompassing economic, social, and cultural fields, offering a glimpse into the splendor and grandeur of that era. 👑 The system of accompanying burials at Zhaoling is also unique. Emperor Taizong of Tang issued an edict requiring meritorious officials, close relatives, and those who assisted his time in their deeds to be buried alongside him. This measure not only demonstrated his deep affection for his deputies but also underscored the harmonious relationship between the emperor and his subjects during the Tang Dynasty. According to statistics, a total of 154 individuals were buried there, including renowned figures such as Zhangsun Wuji, Cheng Yaojin, and Wei Zheng. Their tombs, like stars surrounding the moon, form a vast complex of accompanying burials within the 300,000-mu (approximately 1,000 acres) Zhaoling cemetery. Many ministers considered it an honor to be buried there, and even their descendants followed their fathers' example. This orderly tradition of accompanying burials has become a unique historical hallmark of Zhaoling. 🌟 Today, Zhaoling has been designated a first-tier National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a National AAAA-level Tourist Attraction, attracting visitors from all corners of the world. When you step into this ancient land, it is as if you have traveled through time and space and returned to the magnificent Tang Dynasty.

Located in the bustling city center, the hotel is conveniently situated for shopping, dining, and entertainment – highly recommended! The price is reasonable for the city, and the accommodation environment and cleanliness are much better than other budget hotels in the same price range. The service is professional and commendable. Excellent location with convenient transportation; the subway station is just a few minutes' walk away. The hotel facilities are complete, the rooms are clean and tidy, and the stay was very comfortable. The front desk staff are very helpful, proactive, and welcoming. The breakfast is good with a wide variety of options; I personally think it offers great value for money. 666
