Here you can experience starry sky camping in the Tengger Desert, ride a camel in the sandy sea, or ride an off-road vehicle in the desert to feel the passion. The sand peaks of the Tengger Desert are magnificent, the sand grains are fine and smooth, and the color is golden and shiny. Walking into the depths of the desert, in addition to the golden sand sea, there are many lakes. From a distance, the piles of salt chimneys by the lake are like ice and snow, and the lake is glowing with silver light, like a sand sea glaciers.Zhongwei · 44.2km from downtown

No.66 Road is a rural road leading from Zhongwei city to Beichangtan by the Yellow River, named for the eye-catching "No.66" painted along the way. It runs straight through rolling valleys, flanked by Gobi wilderness and brownish-yellow rocky hills, with its end disappearing into the rolling mountains. The scene is vast and distant, reminiscent of American Western road movies, attracting many self-drive and photography enthusiasts to visit. The highlights here are all about lines, light, and shadow: the straight road, exposed rocks, and vast stretches of yellow earth create a simple yet powerful composition, perfect for capturing atmospheric, cinematic road photos. It is especially photogenic around sunset, when the setting sun bathes the road and mountains in golden orange, casting long shadows and spreading warm tones across the landscape. Sometimes you can even spot flocks of sheep grazing by the roadside, adding a vivid touch of local Northwest charm to the vast scene. Most self-drive tourists include this in their route along with the ancient village in the direction of Beichangtan, experiencing the ruggedness and openness of the Northwest along the way.Zhongwei · 32.8km from downtown

Zhongwei Gao Temple, located in the urban area of Zhongwei, was formerly known as Baoan Temple. Unlike most other temples, it is a temple built on a high platform, so it is also called "Gao Temple". Because it is built on a high platform, the main buildings in the temple are arranged along the central axis from low to high, layer upon layer. In a small area, there are more than 260 towers and pavilions. When tourists are visiting, after entering the mountain gate, they can visit the entire temple from bottom to top along the north-south central axis. When you walk through the archway and walk up the steps, you can see the "Maitreya Pavilion" enshrining the Maitreya Buddha. After the Maitreya Pavilion is the Mahavira Hall enshrining the seated statue of Sakyamuni. Starting from the Daxiong Hall, continue to climb the steps, that is, Nantianmen, Bell Tower, and you can also go to the underground of the high temple, that is, the interior of the high platform. Positive stories to warn the world. When you play in the high temple, you can also pay more attention to the details of the buildings in the lower temple, such as brick carvings, stone carvings, pillars in the corners, etc. These details are exquisitely patterned and exquisitely made, reflecting the rigorous and careful construction of ancient buildings.Zhongwei · 2.2km from downtown

Zhongwei Drum Tower is located in the center of Zhongwei city. In the early Qing Dynasty, it was known asWenchang Pavilion, and it was first built in the fourth year of the Chongzhen reign of the Ming Dynasty (1631). It was accidentally destroyed by fire during a temple fair on the 14th day of the seventh lunar month in the 22nd year of the Jiaqing reign (1817), leaving only the foundation. In the 11th year of the Daoguang reign (1831), Magistrate Ai Chunnian led the district sheriff Shen Yuan and local gentry to donate funds for its reconstruction, which was completed the following year. In 1955, special funds were allocated to renovate the Zhongwei Drum Tower with brick cladding; in 1988, 1992, and 1997, the former Zhongwei County allocated special funds 3 times for painting and decoration, allowing the Zhongwei Drum Tower to stand in the city center with a brand-new look. Zhongwei Drum Tower has a rectangular base, measuring 224 m long from north to south and 1,665 m wide from east to west. In the center of the base is a cross-shaped arched gateway, leading to streets in all 4 directions. The gateway is 3.75 m high with a vaulted ceiling in the middle. In the center is a Bagua caisson ceiling, surrounded by wood-carved figures of the Eight Immortals, with stone-carved dragon heads embedded in the 4 corners, facing each other proudly. There are plaques on the gate towers on all 4 sides of the base, reflecting the geographical features of Zhongwei according to their orientation. The eastern one reads "Suo E Qing Tong" (Locking the Bronze), the southern one "Dui Zhi Xiang Yan" (Facing the Fragrant Rock), the western one "Shuang Yi Sha Shan" (Refreshing Sand Mountain), and the northern plaque originally read "Kong Zhi Bian Yi" (Controlling the Border Barbarians). During the 1984 renovation, in accordance with the Party's ethnic policies and the principles of cultural relic restoration, it was changed to "Kong Zhi Bian Chui" (Controlling the Frontier). Zhongwei Drum Tower is 23 m high, with a total height of 30 m. It is a 3-story pavilion-style building with a square base and arched gateways. The tower is designed as an integrated structure facing all directions, and there is a small door in the southwest corner that leads to the top of the tower base. Above the base, in the center, is the main tower with a triple-eave cross-shaped hip-and-gable roof. Each side has 3 bays, 3 stories, and 3 eaves, with 12 upturned corners on each level. The upper level features viewing corridors on all 4 sides. Four small auxiliary towers are built on the 4 sides of the base, with their inner walls inscribed with the background, dates, processes, and related matters of the construction and reconstruction of the Zhongwei Drum Tower. In the center of the roof, 6 black ceramic balls are stacked, surrounded by coiled dragons, forming a scene of dragons playing with a pearl; however, from different angles, it always appears as 2 dragons playing with a pearl. There were originally statues on each level, which were demolished in 1951. In October 1992, the former Zhongwei County Cultural Relics Management Office, in the spirit of restoring the original appearance of the cultural relic and after obtaining approval from relevant departments, raised funds to begin the restoration. The upper level features the Kui Xing statue, the middle level features the Wenchang statue, and the lower level features statues of the Thunder Ancestor, the Fire Emperor True Lord, and Guanyin Bodhisattva on its 4 sides.Zhongwei · 1.8km from downtown

North Long Beach is located 30 kilometers upstream of Shapotou. Because of its long history, traditional architecture of northern civil structures, military defense and primitive and simple ecology, it was rated as one of the first batch of "National Historical and Cultural Villages" in Ningxia. North Long Beach is divided into 4 natural villages: Huangshixuan, Yushutai, Xiatan Village and Shangtan Village. It still retains the local traditional architectural style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties - "four beams and eight columns" civil structure buildings, while the courtyard walls are made of stone. Blocks are stacked. The traditional residential buildings here are the houses with local characteristics, well-preserved and concentrated in Ningxia. The once vigorous "Great Leap Forward" and "Cultural Revolution" movements left a deep imprint on this peaceful small mountain village. Now when you enter the village, you can still see many clear quotations, images on the walls, doors and windows, wooden cabinets and the period of the Cultural Revolution. of various slogans, etc.Zhongwei · 43.1km from downtown

The Tonghu Grassland lies in the hinterlands of the Tengri Desert. The grasslands, deserts, and lakes together form an area of natural beauty. Fresh air, clusters of cattle and sheep and white yurts come together to create a fascinating view. The blue sky, white clouds, grassland, cattle, and sheep, and the enthusiastic grassland herders, create a feeling of peaceful isolation. During the day, you can ride a horse through the vast grassland, wander around on a camel, or find a good place to sit down, drink tea, and admire the natural beauty. In the evening, you can meet visitors from all around at a bonfire party, where you can eat meat, drink wine and mellow milk tea, and listen to the melodious horse-head fiddle. A stimulating, satisfying, and happy experience!Alxa Left Banner · 24.5km from Zhongwei

The Tengger Desert is one of the famous scenic spots in Zhongwei, Ningxia. It is very close to Shapotou and has beautiful and charming scenery. It is very suitable for family travel. Riding a camel in the desert feels very comfortable and is many times better than the experience of gravel roads. The thrilling desert assault car and the fun of sliding down the sand on a plastic board from the slope are also very enjoyable. Overall, the desert play experience is still good. Pay attention to sun protection and safety, stay with your children all the time, capture the beautiful and happy moments, and embrace nature.

It's not bad. It's my second time in Shapotou. This time I chose the Jinsha Lake Scenic Area at the door. It's smaller than Shapotou, but the experience projects are enough for children to play. It's not bad and worth a visit. However, if you come for the first time, you can go to experience the Shapotou 5A Scenic Area, where there are more things to play and sheepskin rafts.

"Yellow River Homestay" is separated from Shapotou Scenic Area by only the Yellow River. It has restored the century-old ancient village "Dawan Village". Guided by the restoration of the land veins and cultural veins of the South Bank Peninsula, relying on the landscape resources of the Yellow River Bay, it has created a cultural tourism complex that combines local culture and terrain, and created the first homestay cluster in the country by the Yellow River - "Yellow River Homestay". Yellow River Homestay is guided by the restoration of the land veins and cultural veins of the South Bank Peninsula, relying on the landscape resources of the Yellow River Bay, creating a cultural tourism complex that combines local culture and terrain. It integrates homestay clusters with cultural characteristics such as frontier ancient cities, northwest villages, and desert Yellow River, as well as complex functions such as leisure experience. It is also the first homestay cluster in the true sense in China.

Zhongwei Highway 66, located in Shapotou District, Zhongwei City, Ningxia, is on the road from the city to the ancient villages of Nanchangtan or Beichangtan. Because this rural road passes through undulating valleys and runs along the Yellow River, in some places the straight road extends to the distance and you can't see the end at a glance. It is known as Zhongwei's Highway 66! The endless road is full of wildness and excitement. I think of the scene of highway racing in Fast and Furious. Feeling free and feeling powerful, different from the abstract mood in the city, it is very refreshing!

This is a relatively off-the-beaten-path attraction, but it's definitely worth a visit. Located at the intersection of desert and grassland, the "Heavenly Horse Pastoral Song" show, though small in scale, allowed me to experience the carefree life of a nomadic people on horseback. At that moment, I felt a sense that the vast desert cannot nurture a narrow-minded soul. I highly recommend the off-road vehicle experience. The 20-minute extreme off-road adventure in the desert takes you to a green oasis deep within the desert. Sitting down with a relaxing cup of coffee is an experience you can't have in the city.

🌄 ‌Zhongwei Museum: Echoes of History on the Bank of the Yellow River‌ Zhongwei Museum, a museum with five museums and one center. It is only two or three kilometers away from the railway station, and is adjacent to art galleries and parks. The three-story exhibition hall is based on the "Civilization Process", connecting the thousand-year epic of Zhongwei. The Paleolithic exhibition area on the first floor displays stone axes and bone needles from the Yiwanquan site, witnessing the fishing and hunting wisdom of the first ancestors on the bank of the Yellow River; the second floor focuses on the Western Xia Dynasty. The top exhibition area uses a light and shadow sand table to outline the transformation of Zhongwei: from a frontier garrison amidst the camel bells on the Silk Road to an ecological new city in the "Selenium Valley of China". The glass cabinet displays wolfberry drying farm tools and photovoltaic panel models, interpreting the industrial revolution of the "Desert Water City"‌
